Armageddon Is Here

Its also up to the National team plus Motherwell and St Johnstone, the green half have outperformed the blue half in CL regularly, so not missed

Not according to this Celtic page.the national team don't come into it, but that could be a bonus....The league coefficient is calculated like this. Every team that represents the SPL earns points. Those points are added together to get a total. The total is then divided by the number of teams that played in Europe from the SPL. Example, the SPL had 5 teams in Europe last year. This is how they did.

2012-13 Season

Celtic 16.860

Motherwell 2.360

Hearts 2.360

Dundee Utd 1.860

St Johnstone 1.360

Total 24.80

That total is then divided by the 5 representatives and means the SPL only earned 4.96 points for last season.

Now, here is where it gets worse. This season’s European Rankings, where we lie 18th, was calculated from the 07-08 season through 11-12 and does not include last year’s points. Now we know what points were earned last season, we already know what the rankings will be for next year. You would think that with us reaching the last 16 of the Champions League would be beneficial to the SPL but it’s not. The SPL will be ranked 24th with only 15.191 points accumulated from 08-09 through 12-13.

What does this mean for us? It means that unless another Scottish team improves dramatically and starts qualifying for Europa League group stages on a regular basis, Celtic are stuck in the Second Qualifying round for at least the next 5 years. We might be able to improve the league rankings by ourselves but would need to make the last 16 of the Champions League every year for this to be plausible.

AY, as Norge says, take out the green arse cheek, and the average has actually gone up.

and as the Cup points out, last season there was no blue arse cheek ..... thats nearly 50k per fortnight (or works out at 5k/game spread across all games).

so, without the blue arse cheek in the equation, average attendances across the league has GONE UP over 1200 per game.

Take the green arse cheek out the equation, and average attendancesacross the league has GONE UP even more.

figures and stats can be manipulated or able to show what the mainstream media want, to pander to their bigotted readerships.

but take them out (or even one of them) = increased competetion = what the paying public wants = increased attendances for clubs outwith the ugly sisters.

add in fairer financial distribution of sponsorship, tv, and prize money, spread through the league(s) + clubs no longer spending outiwth their means = in time more of a level playing field which leads to better competition = better football, better product, more demand, increased sponsorship and tv revenue and so the cycle continues.

it's when competition is skewed so heavily in favour of two clubs, to the detriment of all other clubs and the scottish football game, that crowds decrease, sponsorship and tv revenues fall, and clubs spend beyond their means to try compete and and end up getting into admin/cva/liquidation territory.

the death of the 140 year old arse cheek is one of the best things that has happened to scottish football for decades. by that, i mean reality has to kick in for all clubs who have mispent and essentially cheated for years. yes there is some pain for some clubs now (and will be some more for others yet), but i believe we are heading in right direction to a better product and hopefully better success as a nation in international competition, and for clubs who get into european competitions. won't happen over night, but the direction of travel is being corrected.

now, all we need is financial armageddon for the green arse cheek .....

Totally agree with most of that yoda and would have agreed 100% if the article had been written for the media, but that came from a st Johnstone site ( no meant to be any bigots at st Johnstone ). Hopefully you are right about the rest of Scottish football getting a bigger share of the prize and hopefully we will all benefit by better football, competition, product and demand, but I just cannot see it myself at the moment.

But hey ho, who gives a feck about that, cos all that matters is getting digs in about rangers.

Scottish football is on its arse and we need to start looking at the big picture. If it keeps going the same way, I recon that 2/3 of the spl will be part time in 5 yrs and the winners of our league will not qualify for the champions league, but like Ireland, they will qualify for the Europa league.

wonder if people saying that it would be good if their club went to join the english pyramid will become more common in those times??

If you think everything is Rosie in the garden of Scottish football. Then take of the rose tinted glasses. Who gives a flying feck about the blue half and green half. Our new super duper league has no major sponsor, our sky and bt money is peanuts compared to even the third tier in English football. Crowds were down last year in the spl, our football to watch at times is piss poor (thistle exempt), we dont have the best stadiums in the world, the prices to watch this low standard of football is a fortune compared to some countries, teams are too scared of relegation in the spl that all the passing football goes out the window and kick and rush football is played.

Kilmarnock.....in real bad way financially.

Hearts......maybe 3rd division

Aberdeen...,closing all top stands this year, cannot afford leccy to run them

Motherwell......reduced wages by 30% at least

Hibs....only way they are surviving is by being run by sugar daddy.

But hey ho, who gives a feck about that, cos all that matters is getting digs in about rangers.

Friend of mine who works for a company doing a lot of the promotional stuff for BT Sport posted a link on facebook that included:

What's more, tomorrow night from 6pm - midnight, BT Sport is free for anyone with Freeview, TV from BT or Sky.

I think it means tomorrow, but it was posted around midnight last night so it could mean tonight...

The Scottish Premier League's average attendance fell by 28%, from 13,855 to 10,020,

Have a read of this and tell me after you read it that Scottish football is in a fine state....

http://saintinasia.w...pare-to-europe/

This was from last year when we had a sponsor, we don't as of today have 1. We are in a bad way.

Basic statistics tell you beware of the simple average. What about outliers? One or two extreme figures can distort what you appear to be seeing. Rangers (when they were in the SPL) and Celtic are massive outliers when were discussing average league attendance. You have to take them out of it to get a real picture for the other clubs.

This kind of phoney statistic by the way is always pulled out "to prove" the league misses Rangers. Quite a few people looked at the figures and saw that what the OF pull in money wise goes mainly to - the OF. Two visits a year by OF fans - mostly by much reduced numbers than in the old days - don't amount to much when spread over a year. TV money yes but how much extra than without the OF when you consider they usually would grab top 2 spots and a huge chunk of the extra money anyway?

BT Sport's games are not free to watch on Freeview. You have to be a BT customer, Sport or Broadband, to get them. Broadband customers can watch games for free online. The quality, going by today's Bayern- Sao Paulo highlights, is excellent - much better than TV Catchup.
