Was in the Thistle Joma factory outlet shop yesterday and the guy running the wee company told me Gerry Britton had just been in ordering £15K of new kit for the Youth teams. So no doubt Thistle are putting there money were there mouth is on the future of youth development.

Will be the great to see a wee production line of our own home grown talent making it to the first team or finding a place in Scottish football.

My boy has been doing my head in every night going to training for weeks now

Are we getting the training kit tonight?

Do you think it will tonight we get the training kit?

Did they tell you when we are getting the kit?

What night do you think we will get the kit?

This has been going on for weeks but last night they were finally told Oct 7th or maybe even earlier.

This will now turn to Do you think we will get it before Oct 7th?

What date do you think we will get it?

All the lads will be buzzing like my lad is for the new kit but Thistle have alot of lads to kit out from the U 20's down to the U11's and that amount of kit is bound to take time to sort out.

I agree that Thistle are investing in youth which can only be a good thing as the future for Scottish football is rearing your own talent (imo)

I take it a lot of the Youth games were cancelled yesterday due to the slightly inclement weather.

14's and 17's were to be playing Inverness at Milton but was called off early doors.

Milton is windy at the best of times so never a chance it was going to be on with the conditions yesterday.

A shame as ICT are pretty decent and it would've been another good test for the young Jags

Next up is away to Raith

Raith Rovers 2 Partick Thistle 3 (U14's)

Another good result away to Raith for the young Jags today in what was a tough physical encounter.

Raith took the lead in the first period and started the better of the two sides but the young jags battled away and continued to play a passing game rather than be as direct as the more physical Raith side.

Apart from the early part of the match the young jags had more of the ball and thoroughly deserved being 3-1 in front with 10 mins to go

A late deflected shot which was going wide gave Raith a glimmer of hope but Thistle kept playing away and were unlucky not to score another.

This game was another physical challenge for them but they stood up to it and can mix it a bit themselves when needed and it's great to see this young squad maturing as a team.

Next week Morton at home which no doubt will be another tough challenge for them.

Partick Thistle 6 Morton 0

Another impressive display from the U14's at sunny Milton in a game they dominated from start to finish.

Morton had won the last fixture between these two sides in a game Thistle didn't do themselves justice in but a win was never in doubt this time and Thistle could quite easily have won by a bigger margin.

Right from the kick off the young Jags went at the Morton defence and the passing and movement was excellent at times.

After going ahead Thistle added another soon after and from then on it was just a matter of how many they would eventually win by.

A few squad members missing today and the squad is a bit stretched but credit to the boys who were playing out of position as you couldn't tell due to the high standard produced from all the boys today

Starting. passing moves from your own box from the keeper out to the defenders and midfielders is nervy to watch at times but great to see them encouraged to play this way and the boys are certainly playing with confidence to play this style of football.

A good result and a clean sheet which is always a bonus but the defence were solid and deserved it.

Next up is away to Clyde who went last season unbeaten so a very tough test awaits the young Jags next week

I may have had differences with you on other forums, I thoroughly enjoy these reports. Good stuff!

The under 20 side beat their Aberdeen counterparts 3-2 this evening.

A detailed tho' naturally leaning to one side report here http://www.afc.co.uk...212158_3477451?

Given that it's unlikely to be handing out praise to the Young Jags lightly I think we should take heart from "Partick were fighting for every tackle", "but credit to Partick who held their shape well" and "The impressive Duggan cleverly left his marker"

Clyde 4 Partick Thistle 4 (Under 14's)

A well deserved draw for the young Jags at Croy today against a very strong Clyde side who went last season unbeaten.

After winning both matches quite comfortably last season the Clyde boys probably were expecting more of the same but right from the kick off the young Jags had them on the backfoot which wasn't what they were expecting.

Thistle wasted some great chances after excellent build up play and this was punished when Clyde took an undeserved lead against the run of play but Thistle kept it going and equalised just before the end of the first period.

(1-1)

2nd period Thistle continued to play the ball around the deck trying to get that second goal but Clyde again were the ones who got the goal to take the lead.

While Thistle were scratching their heads wondering how they were a goal down they lost another which again wasn't what the young Jags deserved.

Thistle hit the woodwork a few times and were denied by some excellent goalkeeping and were unable to get a goal back in this period

(3-1)

3rd period Thistle got their heads up and again played some great football and finally got that 2nd goal that they deserved and were back in it

The tempo of the game had increased and the tackles were flying in but Thistle were holding their own against this big strong Clyde side.who were getting a bit of a run around at times.

Just as it had went earlier in the game Clyde sneaked another goal and you thought game over but straight from the kick off Thistle pulled one back.

Thistle continued to pile on the pressure but never strayed from the passing game they are now doing so well at although when you are doing it in your own box it's heart in mouth stuff at times. :)

With just a minute to go Thistle got a free kick which was knocked into the Clyde box and was finsihed superbly to give Thistle a well deserved draw.

(4-4) FT

The squad is stretched to the limit just now and another call off before the game to a key player through illness and another who got injured in the warm up meant Thistle again had to play alot of players out of position.

(One of the strikers was at left back but played very well and great character being shown by these lads just now)

They play football the correct way and they battle for each other and again it was a joy to watch them.

The faces of the Clyde boys after the game told the true story that they were in a game today and a game they were lucky to get a draw out of.

Next up Annan at home and the Youth set up is moving in the right direction these days that's for sure. :thumbsup2:

First goal was a lovely finish after Hamilton cut in from the left and curled it just inside the far post. 2nd Duggan done well to win the penalty with some good control of the ball before knocking it past the defender who tripped him and then sending the keeper the wrong way.

Defence looked solid, Waters had a couple of shaky moments but nothing major and I thought Meechan did very well from right back plus I think it was him who hit the woodwork from a free kick. Keenan lost the ball a fair bit and then was slow tracking back but Gallacher and Wilson covered well from midfield. Colina tried a lot and was unfortunate it never came off, him and McDaid clearly have talent but tonight were well marked by Kilmarnock whenever they looked to break beyond Duggan.

James Martin scored the first league goal for a Thistle team tonight at Firhill.

Report on main site a bit biased as Kilmarnock had some nippy players who threatened on several occasions

I did wonder about that. Thistletweet sounded like one-way traffic and with the game getting close to the end I was thinking they seem very like the first team there! Then the two goals went in. :clapping:

They also had a bit more experience than us. Gary Fisher played a fair bit for Accies last season and a couple played a first team match this season. Their No 11 Johnston (what is it with that surname and Killie?) looked very useful.

Thought we deserved the win. Seen most of the players have better individual performances but played well as a team. Thought Martin's goal was reminiscent of a typical Lawless goal tho' a mirror image as Martin scored right footed coming in from the left. Meechan's free kick was exceptional and very unlucky not to dip in.

Thistle Weir U14's 20 Cowdenbeath 0

Thistle's U14's went through to Dunfermline today to take on Cowdenbeath and have been in fine form of late.

Cowdenbeath had no answer to the fast free flowing football the young Jags produced today who were also ruthless in front of goal.

5 up after 20 mins and game over as they hit another 3 to end the first period 8-0 up.

The game was turning into a total mismatch with Cowdenbeath rarely threatening the Thistle defence.

The second period started slowly and Thistle had dropped the pace a little giving the Cowdenbeath defence a well needed rest from the onslaught of the first period.

This didn't last long though as the pace was upped again with every player looking for goals.

Chance after chance was created with alot of them being wasted but 4 goals were scored by Thistle in this period.

The last period was just more of the same with Thistle keeping possession and scoring at will and added another 8 goals.

Cowdenbeath were simply blown away by the young Jags toiday and are not at Thistle's level but they deserve some credit for going until the end in what must have been difficult circumstances for them.

As for Thistle they can only play against the teams put in front of them and credit to them for keeping their shape most of the time and sticking to what they are good at and doing the things being asked of them by the coaches.

Next week will be a much tougher test against a very decent Dunfermline side

Sorry but this is a complete nonsense. I'm toiling to understand how you get such ridiculous mismatches at this SFA organised level.

It is a nonsense and this shouldn't happen but these scorelines are not common.

Heard last season Celtic took a high scoreline like this off Ayr Utd and this is why they tried to move on and set up an Elite level which was supposed to put best v best.

Double figure scorelines are still happening at Elite level so i don't know how you sort it unless you make the games competitive and have promotion / relegation etc.

That way teams will find their level but at the moment it is what it is and teams need to get on with it.

Agree its nonsense and have to ask does any of the teams learn anything from these games??? Having worked with ' Elite ' club before joining Thistle and seeing the high standard of these teams i genuinely believe the under 14's would hold there own with these teams. This squad (coaches and boys),are developing into not only a very decent squad but most importantly in such a short space of time have went from a team that would happily give it the old ' hoof ' up the park to a team that now get the ball down and play. Whether it be winning 20-0 against Cowdenbeath or being 4-2 down to a very good Clyde side with 10 minutes to play they still try to play football. Whether any of our youth teams win 20-0 or 1-0 or go unbeaten for 10 or 20 games the most important part of youth development is coaching the kids a football mentality not a winning mentality.

17's who were playing on the same pitch after the 14's match lost 2-1 against Cowdenbeath.

It shows the gulf in standard between Cowdenbeaths 14's and 17's and where each team is in their development.at this time.

A 20 - 0 scoreline the 14's got does nobody any favours and it's up to the SFA etc to try and find a solution that stops this from happening.
