  1. Compelling reply W o 63! Looks like we're wrong and your scrapbook has come up trumps. Will discuss with my colleagues and make the necessary changes. Rest assured we won't be asking for your scrapbook to be forensically tested. I'm sure you have an honest face! Your misprint explanation is most likely.
  2. We (The Thistle Archive) went for a Glavin hat-trick on the strength of both the Evening Times (report) and the Glasgow Herald (scores and scorers) [Ev Times "Glavin slams home three".] It's true that the Aberdeen Evening Express gives the scorers as McQuade, Coulston and Glavin in that order but it is highly unusual for two scorers to be mis-credited. It's largely on the balance of probabilities. If anyone has evidence to the contrary, happy to hear from them.
  3. Just when I've got Adams out of my system, he turns up again! Watching his Ross County team was like watching slow drying paint refusing to dry. Does anyone else remember a match at Firhill when they went 1-up and soon after got a free-kick just on half-way near the dugouts? The player looked up and battered the ball up the park for a goal kick.
  4. If the real problems about the pitch are, indeed, under the surface - as mentioned in an earlier post - wouldn't laying a new surface be throwing good money after bad? In any case, could we afford it? Pitch Condition H11 Each Club shall ensure that the field of play at its Registered Ground and at any other ground at which it is the Home Club for a League Match or Play-Off Match is:- H11.1 smooth and in good condition and repair; and H11.2 equipped with an efficient and effective drainage system so that it cannot become unplayable due to flooding. H12 The Board may, without prejudice to any sanction that might be imposed on a Club for failure to comply with Rule H11, require the Club concerned to take such steps within such time and on such conditions as the Board shall specify, if the Board is not satisfied that the Club concerned is complying or has complied in all respects with Rule H11. There is also a bit somewhere that no match can take place on an artificial surface that does not meet FIFA standards. Would that take in rugby grounds?
  5. 2-1 after extra time. [Thanks to BBC Sportscene.]
  6. It's funny how clubs have a bogey team. In cup competitions DUFC are clearly ours. Since 1977 our record against them in the Scottish and League Cups is absolutely terrible. It's Aug 1975 since we beat them in any cup competition. Yesterday was the 15th attempt. Being drawn against them in 3 successive seasons in the LC (87, 88 and 89) was hard to take. 1977 0-1 Round 2 LC 1981 0-2 Section LC 1981 1-2 Section LC 1981 0-1 3rd round SC 1987 1-4 2nd round LC 1988 0-2 2nd round LC 1989 0-1 1st round LC 1990 1-3 4th round LC 2010 0-2 4th round SC 2013 1-4 3rd round LC 2016 1-3 1st round LC 2016 0-1 5th round SC 2021 1-2 3rd round SC 2022 0-1 5th round SC
  7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRDMR6c9aAY Go to a minute in to see the bowling green! Hopefully the work on the pitch was after Tuesday night's match.
  8. Ignoring Doolan's 4 against Hamilton on 21/1/15 (not an easy thing to ignore!), Graham's hat-trick is the first actual hat-trick in 409 matches. There have only been 6 hat-tricks this century:- Lindau v Stirling Albion 31/3/01 Burns v Kilmarnock 30/11/02 Roberts v Hamilton 18/11/07 Cairney v Dundee 21/4/12 Craig v Dunfermline 2/3/13 Graham v Inverness CT 9/2/22
  9. If history tells us anything Thistle of all people should be sufficient evidence enough that ground sharing on grass in Scotland is totally impractical in Scotland's climate (witness Hamilton, Clyde and Queen's Park). The solution would have to be ground-sharing on artificial turf but support for that is hardly widespread. Remember when Clyde were lodgers Thistle fans more or less refused to stand in the away terracing when it was Clyde's home game. Did they not eventually just give up on that? I don't think a shared stadium would ever be considered "theirs" by either set of fans.
  10. My guess is that had Thistle moved to East Kilbride they could have lost as many paying customers than they gained - perhaps more. Football is largely tribal and the emotional attachment to a particular location is strong . [I have an 86-mile round trip for every home game]. The Thistle directors took a bold decision in 1909 to move to Maryhill and away from Partick and by and large they were vindicated but not so sure a move to a new location nowadays would be.
  11. Just out of curiosity GRE2, where do you think Thistle should/could have moved to years ago? Do you think there is a potential support somewhere, deprived of senior football, just waiting for somewhere to go on a Saturday if only a senior club would move?
  12. Inverness match is on BBC so I doubt it will be (re)moved.
  13. No. Abuse of officials is a more serious crime than allowing a totally incompetent referee to believe he is merely adequate and almost ruin a game because of his decisions. IIRC he got a throw-in wrong inside the first minute. Started badly and fell away. Referee supervisor should have a quiet word with him.
  14. Firhill is on schedule to host 47 matches this season. That would increase to around 50 should we beat DUFC and get a home draw in the next round and if both Thistle and QP make the play-offs. The state of the pitch may yet prove to be a real problem. 30 have been played so far. Assuming no further postponements, a SC exit to DUFC and ignoring potential pay-offs, there are 17 home and away matches to play in 88 days. [The fixtured season is set to end 29 April.] At the moment that means a game more or less every 5 days. Probably manageable but our squad is one of the smaller ones is it not? Takes no account of the quality of players leaving/arriving.
  15. Shameless plug for an extract from my "Partickle" in The Thistle Archive - "The Life and Times of Firhill Park" "For many years there was an average of 8 drownings per year in the canal around the Firhill Basin with several reports of awards for bravery for people diving in to pull others out. In 1938, by August that year, seven children had drowned “log-jumping” in the canal timber basin. Glasgow Corporation set out a proposal to buy the basin, fill it in or convert it into a model boating pond". Wouldn't hold your breath!
  16. In the face of the pandemic........ ".....postpone how we want, we're Partick Thistle, we postpone how we want".
  17. You forgot Thistle 5-0 Aberdeen M'lady. [Well, it was the 28th but who cares.] "Staitley Thistle" (ET). Staite headed in the opener (26), Hainey took a Cowan pass (44) then Duffy made the 2nd for Staite (45). Rampant Thistle made it 4 when Staite set up Hainey (57). Aberdeen were denied when Brown cleared off the line. Duffy clashed with the keeper he walked the ball into the net (75).
  18. Someone on radio this morning explained that Sky's contract does not give them the right to say when Old Firm matches can be played - only that they have the rights to broadcast them whenever payed. Re-arranging the fixtures by SPFL is not in breach of the contract apparently.
  19. Early Christmas present for you Peaty. Charnley baffled the keeper with a free-kick (25) and scored again from 20 yards. The local select adopted the off-side trap in the 2nd half and for a while it inhibited Thistle until Charnley dribbled through the defence for his hat-trick. Late on a low hard cross was turned into the net for an og. DUNCAN ROBERTSON ELLIOT DUFFY RAE TIERNEY PEEBLES WRIGHT McGLASHAN FLOOD CHARNLEY ( ENGLISH )
  20. Not sure about the seating but pretty sure Premiership clubs must have a "pitch protection system".
  21. Not in my experience Jaggernaut! I remember a night game when I went into a chippy only to bump into Brown McMaster coming out. His advice that the fish suppers were not of the best proved correct. The warning bells should have rung louder when a guy came back into the shop demanding his money back. The chips were OK but the fish was something else. It resembled a lump of silicone bathroom sealant. I doubt it had ever been near the sea until I threw it on to the rocks. I think it bounced.
  22. Anyone else just getting a clock counting down? Where's the live stream?
