  1. Poor argument. The Irish flag is one of many that uses the three equal vertical stripes (tricolour) layout. The Union Jack/Union Flag/Butcher's Apron is the only one which uses its very particular design. A Union Flag rendered in red, yellow and black (or any other combination of colours) can reasonably be taken to indicate an affiliation with the Union and the blue side of Glasgow.
  2. 5% of the £1m they gave to the club in exchange for 50% ownership of the main stand and the city end. £50,000 guaranteed dividend per year on the £1m. That was my understanding of the paperwork I saw at the time.
  3. If I remember correctly, they've been awarding themselves 5% per annum since the money was put up.
  4. Would a small safe standing stand with no accommodation built on the back make you feel better, or does property tycoonery have to figure in the plan to make it sit right with you? Genuine question.
  5. The area of the ground to the north of the pitch was always much bigger than to the south. While I disliked that finances at the time virtually dictated that some of that space be sold, the fact that the new north stand and the flats that were built on the sold land were separate made the outcome tolerable, I suppose. There's a lot less space at the south end than there was at the north, so it's almost certain that these plans that exist for the "development" of the city end of the ground involve a block of flats with a crap football stand bolted onto the back of them. Partick Thistle FC is a football club, not a housing association.
  6. No problem whatsoever with a safe standing area.
  7. Let's hope the economically correct time never arrives. Every time mention is made of Firhill being turned into a housing scheme, I feel slightly ashamed of the football club I've loved since I was a very small boy.
  8. Very pleased about this news. The right appointment for a number of reasons.
  9. Duke G. You are the man! You've just saved my week. Thank you.
  10. Sammon's two-step run-up and half-baked strike for the penalty. He couldn't be arsed. GTF
  11. Worked fine using Opera browser.
  12. If we take into consideration how much game-time he gets, and the quality of service he gets during that game-time, Doolan's scoring record is excellent.
  13. My post was perhaps a little more poetic than I intended KA. The very last thing I want to see is Kris Doolan leaving the club, but I'm getting a bit fed up of witnessing the likes of Pogba, Azeez and Storey getting a half season or more to demonstrate that they're nowhere near as good as him. And, much as he's the consummate professional and all that, anyone who thinks sitting on the bench watching these guys' dazzling displays of mediocrity doesn't stick in Doolan's craw just a bit is, I would venture, failing to consider that Doolan is, like the rest of us, human - more patient and polite than the vast majority of us for sure, but human nonetheless. I absolutely acknowledge the manager's right to pick the team as he sees fit - I just think that, in this respect at least, he's making an arse of it.
  14. Well, it's been slim pickings at Firhill this year, so it's nice to win something. P.S. You seem to be a bit confused about the meaning of the word hysterical.
  15. At least Kris knows he's appreciated by the fans.
  16. I don't know if Kris Doolan feels insulted at the beginning of every season when it becomes apparent that the boss has decided to once again give preference to some vastly-inferior forward. All I know is that I feel insulted on his behalf. Archie doesn't deserve Dools. If Archibald is going to be at Thistle next season I hope Doolan leaves in the summer for some place where his talents are appreciated. Not easy for me to say, given Doolan is the best footballer we've had at the club in recent years, but I think the slight has gone on long enough.
  17. Saints had one shot in the first half, not on target, so no point relying on help from elsewhere.
  18. What is this thing some people have about turning Firhill into a housing development? Stop watching 'Homes Under the Hammer', 'Location, Location, Location' or whatever other property development-obsessed pish it is that's got a hold of you - or, at least take your little fantasy elsewhere. For goodness sake, Firhill is a FOOTBALL GROUND. Decimate the ground, decimate the Club.
  19. On what grounds is it deemed unacceptable? I'm not necessarily disagreeing - just interested in the EXACT grounds for that particular song being considered unacceptable.
  20. ^^^^ This. As for the rest of the team, only time will tell....
  21. Which national teams' fans would you say comprise the top ten?
