Thistle v Hearts Scottish Cup Replay- Miners Strike
partickthedog replied to Jordanhill Jag's topic in Main Jags forum
Brexit had not even been thought of then. We had barely Brentered. Zimbabwean constitutional negotiations with Lord Carrington were all the rage. -
Am I right in thinking that Sevco under 21 are still in? Certainly don't want them. Away to Elgin City, Wrexham or Solihull Moo-ers in that order. The third named are likely to be as agricultural as Connah's Quay Nomads.

Thistle v Hearts Scottish Cup Replay- Miners Strike

You must have been 3 years ahead of me. I presume that Professor Cowie lectured in Constitutional Law then at Glasgow University. Your writing hand must have appreciated the break from trying to write down everything he said. His delivery was even faster than Mitch Austin at full fitness. -
That's a brilliant new set of rules, BB, and I have decided to reward your efforts by changing my selections. This is not an attempt to win the competition, but I am hoping to rake in the odd spectacular haul of bonus points when the shocks start to happen. Rather than guessing who will win, I am going for who I want to win, in the hope that they will play Thistle in a later round. My guiding principles are as follows, in order: 1) Always favour an SPFL team I have not yet seen playing Thistle. In my case Cove Rangers, Edinburgh City and Elgin City. 2) Always favour any team I have not yet seen playing Thistle. 3) Always favour the wee team. 4) Always favour the most interesting location to visit (usually the most remote and out of the way destination). I am doing these in 4 blocks of 4 so I do not mis-count! AHAH AHAA AHHA HHAA Bonus team Edinburgh City. Thank you for all your hard work in organising this. Much appreciated.

James Penrice scores v Connah's Quay Nomads 12.10.2019

And a wee Moo for Solihull. -
BB, I appreciate that a competition scoring suggestion from a forum member who cannot even count to 16 may seem incongruous, but here goes. How about awarding bonus points (or even better an extra team?) to any contestant who successfully predicts a victory by a team in a lower tier than the team they defeat? To make it easy all non-SPFL teams can be deemed to be in the fifth tier. This might encourage contestants to go outside the box rather than stick to the safe big team options. Also later on in the competition, it might allow a way back into contention to those who have less teams to select from, thus spicing up the competition. Just a thought but feel free to say hahahahahahahaha.

BB, I think that Kakay was JagZone Man of the Match. Certainly Penrice and Kakay were the two outstanding players, so I do not think that you were havering!
-
Sorry. Well spotted ahhhhhhaahhhhhaa

ahhhhhhaahhhhhhaa Cowdenbeath (Moo)

Agree with praise for Penrice and Kakay, and also thought that McGinty had a good game. Was I right in hearing that Sean got a chorus of "Are you Terry in disguise?"

Disjointed and disappointing first half. Fortunate to be level, partly thanks to fine save by Fox. Hopefully changes in personnel, formation and attitude in second half.

Our national football team struggles to even get close to qualifying for World or European finals. Club teams make irregular and fleeting impact on the latter stages of European competition. At best a couple of our players can hold down a regular starting place in a top English team and as far as I know no others are playing at elite level in other countries. Meanwhile Scottish bowlers whether operating singly or in teams rack up stacks of Commonwealth and world championship medals, often gold, and hold their own in international tournaments. Looks like our bowling clubs must be doing something right.

Just thinking back to that amazing Ramsden Cup tie between the same teams in August 2012: Queens Park 4 Partick Thistle 5. Three of those that played that night are now in the Scotland squad: Lawrence Shankland, Andy Robertson, Steven O'Donnell.

Now I know why Mansell was not in the squad on Saturday: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hereford-worcester-49872545

Which could result in a fall down the stairs.

But Aston Villa felt that they had to spend that to have a reasonable prospect of maintaining their Premier League status for a few seasons at least.

Great song, DP, and I agree that the words are right! However the way it was being sung yesterday definitely involved some "Fleetwood Macisation" of the tune. I suppose it shows the rich and varied musical heritage from which Thistle fans draw. Examples that spring to mind are "One team in Glasgow" which I can confidently ascribe to "Guantanamera", and "We will follow Thistle" which I will less confidently ascribe to "Onward Christian soldiers", though someone may perhaps be able to correct me on the latter.

A musical postscript to the excellent singing at the Inverness game. Decided to keep myself awake on the long drive home by listening to double CD of Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits. So somewhere round about Bonnybridge I found myself singing "I wanna I wanna I wanna be McCall" or something like that. I had no idea that the music at least came from Fleetwood Mac's "Hold me". I am waiting for the forum music buffs to give me a fuller explanation!

Roquefort McCall.

Thank you. Now singing

Just to add that Dario Zanatta had their defence on toast all game. 93 times better than Miles Storey.

Repeating other posts to an extent, but still worth saying that Banzo was back to his brilliant pre-injury best. He owned the ball in the second half. Reminded me of his classic performance in the away win against St Johnstone, just before the injury at Tynecastle. Palmer was an able lieutenant and deserved his goal. Such a change to see Thistle players constantly emerging with the ball out of 50/50 situations. All three goals were very well taken. Atmosphere was brilliant. What were all the words for the Super Ian McCall song?
-
Focussing on the positives, our goal was brilliant. Palmer won tackle in midfield and ball quickly shuttled left and Zanatta cut in and hit a daisy cutter low at the near post. Like Alex Shalk for Ross County v us year we nearly made top 6. Saunders should have done better for their goal but to be fair their striker is over 7 feet tall.

No doubt a silly question, but as a paid up member of the not in the know club, but not a paid up shareholder, if I wanted to become a shareholder, how would I go about it? Are shares available for purchase somewhere and, if so, where and at what price? Alternatively, do I have to find an existing shareholder, willing and able to sell all or part of his or her shareholding to me? Do not worry, I am not mounting a third bid, though if Auld Jag wants to head up a consortium of Thistle-minded balaclava wearers, he will have my full support!
