Hi everyone.
I'm in the very fortunate position to be involved in a wonderful music project for children and young adults with additional support needs.
The project is run out of Hazelwood School in the south side of Glasgow, and all began when the music teacher at the school decided to form a band based on the rhythmical talent shown by one of the pupils. A few pupils who were keen singers were also recruited and The Fridays were born!
5 years on, the project has sprouted arms and legs and has created opportunities for former pupils to volunteer back in the school, as well as work with pupils from both ASN and mainstream schools. A new arts hub is being planned as part of the existing school building to help create employment opportunities and learning experiences for young people who are so often overlooked by society.
In short, The Fridays will be playing in the Aitken Suite this Saturday pre match from around 12:45 to 2:15. The band, project and school would benefit hugely from your support, even if that is simply your presence, encouragement and visible enjoyment of the music.
Fantastic things are happening thanks to MusicAll and Hazelwood and people need to know about it. When you see the needs of these young people, and how able they are to overcome them in order to entertain people, you will hopefully feel inspired and lighter about life.
There are a few videos of the band on YouTube which you can find by searching for The Fridays Hazelwood, and you can find out a little bit more about MusicAll here: http://musicallhazelwood.org.uk
Thanks everyone.
