  1. Just in, good game and a good day out. It's a shame AUFC look like they are relegated. Nice to see the Marko love in still going. What a laugh with the McGuigan celibration. That's all it's been a long day!
  2. Are you sure it's the 19th hole? According to google that's a posh golf bar in the wrong direction. More likely choices nearer the ground; Ship, Black Bull, Bowling club, and Wallace bar near the other station (Newton on Ayr).
  3. Thanks chaps. Maybe it won't be that bad. 19th hole would hopefully be okay if the pubs in the high st are knocking back football colours. I would rather head back into town after the match so that there are more trains to choose from. Shorty-free this weekend he's gang awa on a short holiday...... but my brother Greg is much more difficult to supervise!
  4. I'm toying with the idea of making a day of it in Ayr, getting the train down etc. But with celtic playing Killie earlier in the day, for the league, things could get a bit tricky on Ayrshire trains and pubs. Normal places that you might go to (eg Browns) may well have bouncers on the door. There could be a complete ban on football colours. On the other hand a jags top might smooth things over. Anyone planning the same? it could be worth abandoning the day out idea and just getting the J'Hill bus.

I'm sticking to the pie thread, HARRUMMMPH! Maybe just a wee comment.... This type of tactics at home games is killing us. Remember when IMC was told to do better at home games? Well it's time that JMN was given the riot act on home games. That's next season's budget at risk and no amount of leaflets is going to combat suicidal home games.

    Steak Peh

No steak pies at all I reckon. The mythical cheesy bean pie.... have they ever even had one in stock???? They should have more honest pricing boards: "Shite pies and ropey curry pies that aren't as good as they used to be: to be served between 6:00am and 6:05am sharp. After that only a twix."
  7. On cue, the world's only shoe allergy joke? Hamish Imlach the folk singer "I'm allergic to show leather because every time I wake up with my shoes on I've got a sore head".
  8. If anyone is interested, there's a brilliant article on Newsnet Scotland that covers a lot of ground; http://www.newsnetscotland.com/index.php/scottish-opinion/4341-a-unionist-lexicon-an-a-z-of-unionist-scare-stories-myths-and-misinformation The article is writtem by Paul T Kavanagh. Fair play to him, he must have spent ages writing this, look at the section headings............... Abandoning the English: We'd abandon the English to decades of Tory rule. Alex Salmond: Alex Salmond stirs up divisions Anti-English: Scottish nationalism is motivated by hatred of the English. BBC: You'll not get the BBC on telly after independence. Border controls: There would be border controls and we'd need passports to visit Newcastle Braveheart: The woad to independence Credit rating: Scotland would lose the AAA credit rating it enjoys as part of the UK. Debt: Scotland would be unable to service the amount of debt it would be required to take on. Defence: Scotland would be defenceless without the UK armed forces and would lose thousands of defence jobs. Devo-max: If we vote against independence we can have devo-max instead. EU membership: Scotland would be forced to reapply for EU membership. Euro: Scotland would be forced to use the euro Expats: I'm an expat, independence means my English children would become foreigners to me. Gaelic: Public employees would be forced to learn Gaelic. Gay rights: Scotland would allow homophobes to dictate policy and introduce anti-gay legislation History: We have 300 years' of history in the Union, we shouldn't throw that away. International influence: The Union allows Scotland to punch above her weight internationally Investment: The independence debate threatens inward investment in the Scottish economy. Nationalism: Nationalism is regressive and backward looking. Oil: The oil is running out and won't last much longer. Overseas business: Independence would destroy Scotland's say in the world – removing the ability to do big business overseas. Pound sterling: Scotland wouldn't be allowed to continue to use the pound Poverty: Scotland is too poor to be independent. Queen: Scotland won't be able to retain the Queen as head of state. Royal Bank of Scotland: The cost of bailing out RBS would have bankrupted an independent Scotland. Separation: Nationalists want separation. Spain: Spain would veto Scottish membership of the EU. Subsidies: Scotland depends upon subsidies from the UK to run our economy. Togetherness: We're stronger together than we are apart. Travel abroad: Independence would prevent Scots from travelling safely in foreign countries Trident: Scotland would have to pay for the removal of Trident and the cost of a new base in the rump-UK. Unanswered questions: Too many unanswered questions remain about independence

    Breaking Bad

PS: talking of box sets, one of my favourites is the complete works of WC Fields, what a hoot.

    Breaking Bad

I'm not one for tv and box sets and what have you. The Shield is the only one good enough for me that I've done the 'staying up till 3am' watching it routine and ordering from the USA etc. Highly recommended.

    Just In

Dire dire game. I agree with some of the points mentioned, especially the one about building a team around the defence. This tippy-tappy-fart-around-until-the-opposition-score routine is rubbish. I'm not prepared to take McNamara keeping his hands in his pockets during that fiasco, he didn't even react much after we scored. Not good enough. We need some older harder players to kick some butt in the dressing room.
  12. What on earth is one of them? Surely to god that's not a degree course? If so, where?
  13. Yes wash them, iron a nice crease up the middle, wear brown shoes or sannies and get a nice short haircut!!!! Blue jeans not cool, polo shirts not cool, brown shoes not cool, dance music and oasis not cool.... *sorry canny help it, I had better cut it out, I'm sure the feeling's reciprocal to punks, goths and rockers. Don't start me on scarves in summer, and white socks, .... maybe this would be a good thread?
  14. Thanks, that's the most info I've had on the matter.
  15. Ta, might go for the bus with shorty from the T'wood.
  16. Changing good home games in the Christmas holidays for television goes VERY badly with me. I'll leave it there.
  17. As someone who only concentrates on our own beloved SFL diddy leagues, is this Arry considered to be a goody or baddy? I haven't a clue. Even reading the English media I still canny work it out.
  18. So Livi game! After ages with no game I'm going for daft optimism... jags win for sure.... not joking we're winning this (caveat: I always get like this after a game gap).

    Comedians

As already mentioned: Peter Kay and Russell Howard would be on my list. Peter kay's so-called catchphrase 'Garlic Bread' get's me frowning.
  20. Picking up one issue that's a pet hate of mine: The defence footprint fallacy. The defence underspend in scotland has been grotesque. We have basically been massively subsidising jobs in the South East of England. Nearly the whole Army, RAF and Navy is in the south east (jaggy bunnet brought up Catterick in the North of england once as one of the few exceptions). How many Labour poilticians have ever mentioned this in public? Zero. How many Labour politicians even knew this? Not many I'll wager, with a few dishonest creeps keeping quiet about it. This is just an example of the combination of stupidity compounded by blatant lies that the SNP have always had to put up with. Here's another one: the referendum is illegal and can be challenged in the courts. That's only superficially true of any small country that has been 'unified' with a larger one. International law trumps this. All nations are allowed to secede from their unions. Imagine the English weren't allowed to have a referendum due to EU law (same thing). How many Labour poilticians have ever mentioned this in public? Zero. The thick ones haven't even twigged on the logic. How about letting Scots living abroad vote in the referendum, as recommended by various Labour politicians? Elections have to use electoral registers to make them legal. There is no register of voters abroad who many years ago lived in Scotland. How many times mentioned by Labour? Zero. I could on all day with examples like this.

    Just In

You can shoot me for this... I thought the ref was really good! Paton ok-ish, Rowson... thank **** he's back. No shooting boots though, but not as schocking as the QOS game.
  23. Don't forget the Real McKenzies at the Captain's Rest on wednesday (25th). This is in the right forum as it's them that do 'Thistle Boy' as played at Firhill before the games these days.
  24. I've not joined in the debate recently....so will start with a general point. Look at the above rambling posts.... You have to remember that lots of very bright people in the SNP have spent years looking into all these issues. They have answers to the vast majority of the usual issues. Most of these answers are really strong and difficult to argue against. I posted the previous white paper in the earlier thread that no doubt was been forgotten already. I don't have much inside knowledge but it's obvious that the SNP are going to have a programme of rolling out various documents and trying to answer the issues in a sensible and measured way. They will not be bounced into things by dangerous nasty people like Michael Forsyth and George Osborne. In particular Osborne has access to the financial books of the UK which makes him a dangerous opponent. The other side of the coin is the laughable rabble in the liberals and labour party (Michael Moore!!!!, Johann Lamont!!!! Margaret Curran!!!!!). These people are too stupid to realise that they have spent years not bothering to find out the actual facts, and will now have rings ran round them. They'll never catch up as they have just left it too late now.
