Read the P&B thread. I don't want to regurgitate internet gossip. That's why I said rightly or wrongly. And due diligence doesn't change public opinion. ETA: it's not an unsubstantiated allegation that he's a divisive character. I'm just going on comments here and there. Lots of people don't want him.

I wouldn't want Lennon because he's such a divisive character, rightly or wrongly. Not what the club needs just now and could easily become a total distraction. I'm not entirely sure what a Sporting Director does, whether it's any different from a Director of Football, although not entirely sure what that is either. If it's primarily player recruitment, then there is some logic for McCall to be a candidate, but that depends on recruitment strategy.

Check out the Thistle thread on P&B. IMO he's not a good fit for Thistle. And that's going on his performance with other clubs.
-
What a joy he must be to be around.

While I understand why engage, you're wasting your time.

Do you know Doolan wasn't allowed to sign him? And if he wasn't 'allowed' to sign him, perhaps there were good reasons not to. Like budget, which we do know for a fact was an issue. Given his lack of fitness, there were very obvious risks, so passing makes total sense. On the other hand, Morton might've been better placed to take a punt.

It's not always the manager that's the problem. He said stating the obvious.

Always sad to see decent people getting the bullet. Kris Doolan has been involved in just about all of Thistle's finest moments over the last few years. And the play-off run was epic - the most enjoyable and memorable few weeks of my Thistle supporting life. I'm sure he will find a role somewhere in football and continue to do very well. Clearly something was wrong within the first team squad and coaches this season, and as we all know, in football, the buck always stops at the manager's door. Hope Thistle finds a way to get something out of this season, and as we all equally know changing managers doesn't guarantee improvement. I find it a bit weird that football always blames everything on the manager.

There's way too much conjecture for me.

"I reckon", "I suspect", "No idea", "I think". Suspicions, guesswork and assumptions. Classic social media chinese whispers. So much noise, so little signal.

So no cheaper really and only makes sense if cash flow is an issue and we didn't have money in the bank. Which we apparently do have. I'm not defending the status quo. Just don't like calling for someone's like Doolan's head. He's a decent person. And we've all seen clubs change managers, and things not improving or getting worse. We've been there ourselves several times.
-
How is putting someone on gardening leave the cheap option? You're paying someone to do nothing in addition to paying his replacement. Not expressing an opinion on whether the manager stays or goes btw.

Young player struggles to get minutes at a Premier League club scrapping at the bottom of the division. What a shocker!! Welcome to the club Josh!!

Who's the Jags fan on loan at Livi?
-
Or maybe the player in question didn't fancy it, or got a better offer? Lots of assumptions being made base on exceptionally limited evidence here.

A vexatious thread if ever I've seen one. You've already had the answer, yet you ask the question again.

Or maybe it's Doolan has quite a small coaching team. And if we want to deal at the hidden gems and young talent end of the market, with a view to keeping costs down and making profits, we're going to need someone on it more or less full-time. Maybe the infamous football committee was an attempt to do that, which they've now decided wasn't working. I like how the board are up for trying different things, and not set on working just the one way.

That Megwa boy's so good you've got him playing in 2 positions! On another subject - Harry Milne always struck me as a smart guy who's likely to be quite switched on. What's he doing using X then?!! I won't hold it against him though... ...much...

Out of likes - agree completely. Robinson is a good player, but not a 10. Curious to see if there's any significant change in the way we play now we apparently have the defensive mid we've been looking for since Docherty left. And what happens further up the field - assume Turner will go to 10. Although change of formation with Ablade up alongside Graham would be interesting - unlikely though given how few forwards we've got in the squad.
-
Not too bothered about Robinson going. One of these players that had become a fixture who didn't do quite enough to merit his automatic selection. Will be interesting to see how the line-up changes. Harry Milne though - sad to see him go, but has been on the cards for a long time.
-
Wasn't there today, but from what I've seen of Ablade, I totally agree. Even my non-expert eye can see that he has pace that could seriously scare defences at this level. How we have not managed to find a formation or system to make use of it, is beyond me.
-
Or just makes things to back up his argument. Once you dig a hole you've gotta keep digging - if you say something often enough, it has to be true. The way of the Internet...

The one thing I notice with Aiden is that he berates himself when things don't go right, to the point that his head literally goes down. My guess is that this is more of an issue. Speaking generally, how can you tell if it's physical fitness or not have your head in the game, that's stopping a player from tracking back? I've seen Aiden track back very effectively on some occasions, it's just that sometimes he doesn't. That suggests attitude/mentality to me, not fitness. But here I am again - what do I know. Bottom line is in the games I've seen, he hasn't been that bad - more of a team issue. And he's yet to reach the form we saw a couple of seasons ago.
-
So you reckon looking at pictures is the way to assess fitness? And because it keeps coming here (which I think is very, very unfair on the player in question), I've looked at his 'shape' during games. I see nothing to suggest he's unfit. He's reminiscent of a lot of footballers physically - John McGinn like. I also suspect that he'll be near the top of the list of players for 60m sprint times. His game would probably suffer if he lost any muscle mass. But I'm now falling in to the forum trap of expressing an opinion on something I'm not in a position to know with any authority. Which is grossly unfair on the individual in question.

Wasn't there yesterday but from what I've seen of the team this season, we seem totally incapable of finding a system which gets the best out of the players at our disposal. We are consistently underperforming. Take a player like Ablade. From what little I've seen of him, he appears to have pace that would frighten a lot of championship defenders and capable of linking up play with his back to goal. But what little game time he gets, it looks like he's been shoehorned in. Then there's the obvious Turner 'experiment' otherwise known as a waste of his ability. McBeth? Chalmers? Apparently good players, but really unclear if they're playing anywhere near their potential. I always thought this season looked dicey, because just about every team is capable of beating the other teams. There might not have been any obvious Premiership level title favourites, but there's was no obvious relegation candidates either. All very meh. We're obviously heading for a mid table nothing season playing in fits and starts, unless there's a significant change in form, attitude/effort or tactics.
