Never really care for this daft cup. It's normally very unlikely you can progress in it without playing against teams you'll play four times a season as it is. However as long as sevco are still in it there's a chance of a decent pay day. Failing drawing with the Southside Johnnies I'd like to see us get a tie with a Div 2 outfit. I know a home tie isn't usually preferred, as we make less dosh and are lucky to break even, but travelling to the likes of Dumfries or Arbroath on a Sunday might be problematic and I've seen enough of plastic pitches already to not favour a trip to Ochilview.

Just another episode in what was a rather surreal evening. Btw does anyone know what Ian Watt's middle name is? I assume it'll be Thomas, Terence, Timothy or the likes,

I thought it was our defence that was doing the poznan thing.

Similar wording to what some folk were saying about a certain Ian Watt two or three seasons ago. Was telling folk in my local tonight that the kick off in a Challenge Cup game at Hampden was held up for 15 mins to let the crowd in. Needless to say they thought I'd been hallucinating. Btw that performance tonight was like watching the Jags thirty to fifty years ago. Only then in true Thistle style the main culprits would've been our experienced players. It's nights like tonight that used to sum up what it's like to be a Jags supporter.

I feel if Sally leaves they might go down the horses for courses route. What they really need is a manager well established in the lower divisions and thus with the experience to take sevco on to 2nd & 3rd division success. I realise with their proud heritage dating all the way back to June 2012 they'd want to appoint someone steeped in their tradition. Well there just happens to be a miner's son from Fife that......

I don't see what all the fuss is about. I for one trust Levein's boss at the SFA as always to handle any matter in a fair truthful and open manner.

One Thistle - North Stand Move
lady-isobel-barnett replied to potty trained's topic in Main Jags forum
I didn't hear her but I'm assuming it's the same one that phones in on a regular basis. Always comes across as she'd be more at home watching public school rugger. The only thing in her favour is that she actually goes to games. Ninety per cent of Traynor's callers rarely see the inside of a football ground. -
I feel keeping the system we play more important than keeping the personnel. With an important game on Saturday I wouldn't be surprised to see at least three or four changes. Balatoni needs a game and Archie may need a rest. As said Sinclair for Bannigan and I could see Craigen with either Elliot or McGuigan getting a start. Could also see justification in playing Scully and if still got a future with us putting Campbell on the bench.

What's extra pleasing about the result is Falkirk look a good side and I'd be surprised if they're not close to the top most of the season. With that in mind the 3pts yesterday are extra valuable and means a point at East End Pk next week would be in no way a bad result. Another plus this season is in Welsh we've at long last got a player who can bullet home a header. His two in the Craib Cup and his goal late last season against Hamilton more than decent. I've not seen a replay yet but I'm fairly sure without the pace on Sean's header Doolan wouldn't have had the chance for the third goal yesterday. If we can improve on last season's quality of crossing, especially at corners, then I can see Welsh get a few goals with the head.

New Packages Launched For The Kids
lady-isobel-barnett replied to potty trained's topic in Main Jags forum
When the Excellent Main Stand debate was topical many suggested it would be an ideal place to house the kids/family section in other words a sanitized zero tolerance area. I'm like the above in view that most kids from a certain age and above would prefer to be in the body of the kirk for much the same reasons as posted. I think it would also help the younger teenagers make the step up to paying adults when the time comes that much easier. In converse isolating kids till they become of paying age would be counter productive to the jags recruitment ideal. Oh, and if any of them chronically step over the line find a place in the JHS and sin bin them -
When he's wingback he has three centrebacks and other systems we play with two defensive midfielders. Similarly I don't exactly feel the defensive stuff is Bannigan's strength either but I can easily understand if Stuart is preferred to Sinclair. I don't doubt that O'Donnell makes more technical error than most of the team but he sees so much of the ball that on sheer percentage he'll make inclusion every week. Btw from the little I've seen Muirhead looks decent going down the right flank and may be the option if/when O'D is injured or suspended. I think 1JL has got the likely team but with Sinclair replacing Bannigan. Imo both are too good to miss out and starting Bannigan at LWB and bringing Sinclair on for the first midfield change (Stuart B moving inside) might be the better option.

I've just gone up one place in the Jags Supporters of Clackmannanshire ratings. That now ranks me ahead of my neighbour's retriever who has a yellow & red collar. I remain three places behind my mate's collie-lab cross called Charnley.

For a seeded team I suppose Hamilton are about the least difficult to beat. That's not to say a game at NDP will be anything like easy.

Just to repeat the Forfar fans beside me, and we were only 10 yards or so from the incident, all thought the sending off incorrect. I thought at the time the player had lost control enough to say it wasn't a clear goal scoring opportunity. I've asked before as find the terminology "goal scoring opportunity" subjective. If we were playing against Messi I would say any tackle within thirty yards of goal would be a denial. If Lucas Akins was felled thirty inches from goal I reckon the tackler could stay on.

If we get a bumper crowd on Saturday all to the good. I'll be more interested in how many turn up for the next home match against Dumbarton. Proof, puddin' & all that.

New Packages Launched For The Kids
lady-isobel-barnett replied to potty trained's topic in Main Jags forum
My only criticism is this should've been done two or so seasons ago. I applaud the kids go free initiative but felt it was such a great selling point it was worth more extensive marketing some time back. That's my only criticism and these packages look excellent. Well done to those concerned. Btw another avenue worth promoting to home and away fans (especially the latter) is the parent plus two/three/four kids still only £17 compared to, well any other ground where it'll cost £x more on average. I'm guessing there's loads of other clubs fans who can't afford to travel to away games due to having to double/treble up costs bringing kids along. Firhill would be a relatively cheap day out. -
Pressley is very single minded about league reconstruction. He appears to differ from the mainstream view in that he feels appeasing sevco is a price worth paying for league change. That aside he's forward thinking and I believe speaks for most of us.

All I can think of is sevco are building a squad at a quality level that will get them into the top tier a year earlier than possible under the present set up. Even at that they have to be in the 2nd tier next season, which would require something like a 16-16-10 set up. The other possibility could be an SPL2 with ground and/or status requirements and restrictions where sevco could squeeze in the back door.. Tbh I wouldn't have any real complaints about the first scenario except I find the idea that one club (or a few more, Mr Beattie?) were in the loop and the majority blissfully unaware rather unsavoury. The idea of a 16-16-10 set up does appeal..

Dave, As much out of curiosity as anything else did the police explain their over the top presence at the ARR Craib weekend? I know on the Saturday there were twenty or so casuals floating about outside but amount of police in addition to stewarding were ridiculously high considering the nature of the games and attendances. Perhaps the police were guided by some misinformed intelligence, or as I thought at the time they were using the matches as a training exercise for the Olympic football at Hampden, but if not I think a lot of us who attended the football that weekend will be surprised at their relaxed attitude to the North Stand move. Anyway as I say it's more curiosity than anything else and I hope the move is a great success. You and One Thistle have obviously done a grand job in getting agreement and support to get this off the ground.

Others mentioned it at the time and I must admit to not noticing it at the game but the standard of shooting was deplorable. the one shot we hit accurately and at pace resulted in a goal. Btw I still think we scored with that header on 37secs. Usually the camera makes you feel silly when you see the replay but it looks even more of a goal in film.

Nonsense. For Tommy thanks pictures. Very appreciated much

I noticed last night that Traynor was partnered by Cosgrave on his phone in. I'd like to think that was because someone in production realises that even for a wind up merchant Traynor has alienated, thru mainly his DR drivel, too many of his listeners. Cosgrave might not be everyone's cup of tea but he's been consistent with his against the media grain comments over the sevco saga. Fortunately I was home from Forfar before I heard too much phone in nonsense but I'd like to think that pairing Cosgrove with the Airdrie Oaf may have tempered much of the pro Ibrox excesses.

We all know Murray doesn't take many prisoners but I don't believe he's got form for getting booked/sent off cheaply. The sending off yesterday was probably harsh but if I'm not contradicting myself he had to attempt a tackle. If he starts picking up bookings for daft thinks like talking back, kicking the ball away etc then it'll be a cause for concern as he's bound to collect the yellows for the physical stuff.

Media must love this guy. Never knows when to shut up, always there for a daft comment. Makes Yogi Hughes seem like a model of diplomacy.
