  1. Got a vision of Gus from Drop the Dead Donkey there. As for increasing the price of the 50/50 tickets to get a larger return is on face value false economy. I forget the relevant commercial law but the marketing solution is to sell more at the current price. The tricky bit is of course finding ways of doing that.
  2. That's imo completely correct right up to the last wee bit at least. McCall's principal legacy is not his win/lose ratio rather that he's left the infrastructure within the playing side of the Club that much healthier. That legacy should be enough to ensure the Board don't have to fluke the next appointment. Ironically I sense, despite lunacy in the boardroom, there's a decent chance McCall might not be missed simply because of the playing set up he left us with.
  3. McCall has in the past said Ian Cameron would be a good future manager of Thistle. So I don't find anything startling about him saying it now. McCall also made it clear he envisaged himself, to use the vernacular, going upstairs in the Club in a few years time perhaps with Cameron taking over as manager. I feel tho' his current views are tainted (temporarily at least) since his ultra sudden departure for private reasons. I know he also mentioned professional reasons but, as he hasn't mentioned what those were, they too appear to be "private". There is no such thing this time round as a cheap option when selecting a manager. There's virtually no option but cheap thus the logic would be to go in house. Also I can't believe that there'll be any lengthy initial contract on offer. If Ian Cameron is prepared to give up what I assume will be a sound income and risk it as a Jags manager it shows real commitment and no doubt real self belief as well. If he was to apply I hope the Board treat his application very seriously with or more likely without taking on board McCall's endorsement.
  4. A first step on the ladder coaching role perhaps. Not dissimilar to McNamara this season. Admittedly that's unlikely to happen.
  5. I was told at our last Saturday game at Falkirk there were only four polis inside the ground. That was for a reported crowd of 3735. Obviously our support could have shared the opposite stand with some of the home support but I should imagine the policing costs would have increased significantly. Not sure what point I'm making if indeed any but I'm willing to bet our policing costs will be considerably higher pro rata than that of Falkirk.
  6. I suffer from a condition where I can be both optimistic and pessimistic at the same time. With my glass half full the league has all the makings of being tight and ultra competitive. Apart from whoever wins the play offs, who I imagine will be strong favourites for relegation, it'll be difficult to separate the other nine clubs. Assuming no Dunfermline and neither Dundee nor Livi act silly buggers (big assumption of course) then I can't see an out and out favourite to win the league. Queens have horrendous problems and perhaps Falkirk could join them. Hamilton won't buy their way out of the league and I wouldn't be expecting too much from Morton, Raith & Ross Co (assuming they stay up). With my glass half empty I worry about the pressure on the team to perform. I feel that if they don't our crowd will continue to dwindle. We'll still be stuck with the repetitive boredom of a ten team league. Hamilton and Livinghell bring a very poor support as will the play off winners (unless it's Ayr). The state of our pitch vastly affects entertainment value and so without good results more folk will drift away.
  7. True, but we're talking about the SFL here
  8. I enjoyed seeing the 4-3-3 set up. For that to work the midfield have to work their socks off and they didn't fail in doing just that. The forwards interchanged well. Stewart looks a decent player but I suppose he'll be judged in time more on his goal scoring potential than his teamwork. Much more attack minded today but I don't suppose the result was that important. Campbell did really well setting Erskine up for his goal.
  9. ...I heard on the radio tonight that the rearranged Q o S v Ross Co fixture is to be played at a neutral venue. Surely that works against Cowdenbeath as they and County try to avoid the play off position? I don't for a moment believe that Queens should benefit from this fixture but in no way should Cowdenbeath's chances of staying up be reduced. Maybe if Cowden hadn't had to travel to Palmerston today they might have done better than draw with Queens. From a selfish point of view I suppose our chances of finishing fourth are slightly better but imo this is just another example of the totally inept SFL making arbitrary decisions.
  10. I got into supporting the Jags mainly as my Dad said to me one thing you'll never get asked by a fellow Jags fan is if you look on Thistle as a mini Celtic or Rangers. Gotta say the Old Man was correct. Well for the first 38 odd years anyway.
  11. or who's your favourite Chuckle brother.
  12. Is that a reference to that time he when mental as his kebab was not what he ordered? All he could say in a drunken stupor was "shish not ewe".
  13. I notice you haven't posted your preference.
  14. I wouldn't be that surprised if Lochhead makes the bench. He's been travelling with the team and if one of the players had pulled up early enough pre match he'd have been included.
  15. In my mind Billy Allan's financial input into the Club would only mirror Dundee if that input was expressed in terms of a loan.
  16. I've always liked Rowson in both his spells at Firhill. In fact I feel at times he's almost worthy of a testimonial. That said, and maybe others have the same opinion as myself, but today I'm close to rather cynical thoughts about DR. I'll leave it at that till we find out more about next season's squad.
  17. Tho' they'll forever deny it the Presley connection with Parkhead shouldn't be swept under the carpet. I'm old enough to remember that huge fall out Elvis had with Colonel Tom Parker (his manager and a closet Airdrieonian supporter). Parker was furious with Presley over his choice a song he had recorded and threatened to sue him over breach of contract. Regardless Presley ignored Col Tom and went ahead and released Crying in the Chapel. A furious Parker considered telling the world that Elvis did in fact get off that plane at Prestwick where he hailed a taxi outside the Red Lion and headed up to Seamill just to watch the tims train. As for faking his death I thought that was more to do with his shock when he realised finally why Parker always pissed himself each time he sang I Just Want to Be Your Teddy Bear.
  18. Straying a bit here but no matter how good, bad or average a defender was I always remember them for their rare scoring moments and most famous goal. Having been at that game I have but one single memory of David Narey Similarly McQueen's header in '77 (Wembley), Holton '73 (v Czechs) and of course Sandy Hodge at Starks
  19. I imagine in the instance of Reid he's too high profile to be targeted in a similar manner. It's highly likely his mail is always redirected and in any case there would be a complete news blackout.
  20. Too much of a realist to ditto lennythistle's post. Got to assume that we'll have a game up there in the near future too important to ignore. But till then I echo his sentiments and this game coming up is clearly missable tho' I might have been tempted if I thought there was a serious possibility of us sticking them in the play offs. Even at only £5 entry I find myself similarly minded to Hot Shot. Dens and Cappielow are the only two grounds I plan to stay away from on principle but in truth I don't need to be very strong willed to avoid a trip to Dens.
  21. ...and thus not liable but still a liability.
  22. Yip, they just seem to have switched off completely.
  23. At £5 I still make that £3.86 more than what we should be offering.
