  1. I wouldn't dismiss play offs out of hand but not for the outright league winner. Places 2,3,4 & 5 could play off for the second top Euro place (whatever that is). They could split profits 5 ways with the champions getting a share.
  2. David Beattie on reform Haven't heard too many folk in favour. To be fair that's a selective quote as David is also advocating Summer football. I'd maybe be more interested in Friday night football if I knew what those opportunities were. I'd have thought selling hospitality and season tickets would actually be harder.
  3. Congrats! I see you've also won a prize in the CF draw.
  4. I think all this Falkirk anger at the call off is really just posturing. Embarrassed in front of their hospitality guests they're trying to save face by diversion. Easiest way to do that is to blame anyone but themselves. Have a wee bit of sympathy as it's the sort of thing I'd do.
  5. Thanks for that. Some good stuff in here. I love THIS Brilliant name Mr P Queen Tosney as has his predecessor William Poultry. P Queen Tosney seemed to be quite a busy lad Mr P Queen Tosney a freemason whereas Mr Wm Poultry was a free ranger.
  6. As I understand it a "Sunday Service" means there's no fare as such but on leaving there'll be some sort of collection. Prior to that song sheets are handed out (probably at the top of the escalators) and you'll be expected to sing along to at least a couple of ditties. In between these ditties there'll be a little bit of communal shut eye while the fellow running the show will do some talking. Once you wake up he'll probably then want to make a longer speech. I'm a bit confused as to what will make this Sunday Service "special". I'm taking a wild stab at it and guessing it most likely is connected to the sad passing of Captain Beefheart. Hope I've been of some help
  7. Surely Halliwell should have been amenable to Hinchcliffe's coaching. we could go round in circles here.
  8. Sorry, Gimp, much as I admire what you do that comment is nonsensical.
  9. This is a great thread even if nostalgia ain't what it used to be. My own generalised view about Glasgow pubs, which I could back up with a load of boring near facts & anecdotes, is that, with the exception of a few well known glaring examples, they're not exceptionally one way or other. If you really want to visit an OTT Rangers/proddy tavern or a Celtic/cafflick howff you have to travel to the likes of deepest Lanarkshire or middlest Fife to discover real Bigotville.
  10. OK there's only a handful of fans here have voiced their opinion about friday night games. That said it's fair to say there's virtually no endorsing opinion in favour. McLeish given a free hand would have us Div 1 clubs subjected to such an initiative(?) in exactly the same way he champions us playing a minimum of 4 games a season against each club in the same division. This guy is truly a complete arse. Questions also have to be asked of the idiots who commissioned the clown in the first place.
  11. Heard him yesterday going on about Friday night football for SFL clubs. More HERE. Firstly whether in favour or not, once again has Joe Public ever been consulted about this? Secondly I don't do polls but how do folk on here think about Friday night football? Will you be able to go? If not would it affect whether you bought a season ticket or not? My own view without giving it much thought is I'd be OK with it in autumn and spring but certainly not for about 4 mths of the season (start of Nov till end of Feb). If it brings in cash from live television it could be a winner but TV companies would want continuity throughout the season and I really can't see winter games on a Friday night being popular. Any thoughts?
  12. Always been my guiding rule of thumb thingy too. Used to be quite difficult when the likes of Forest were playing Liverpool. There would probably on average be about 7 or 8 Scots on the field. Don't mean this as a quiz question but which club in the Premiership normally play the most Scots?
  13. I think the guy who bought it owns over a dozen pubs (Alison Arms and Beechings spring to mind). He also owns one in Broxburn that he's been trying to offload for some time. He most certainly doesn't specialise in themed timmydom premises.
  14. I thought at the Raith game he was at fault for two goals. Got the impression thereafter he was a bit shaky tho' he made some good saves. Definitely the two games you mention blew his confidence but the fuse might well have been lit since league game 1.
  15. Not disagreeing about the value of Archie but we've just played 160 plus minutes without him (& Robbo for that matter) without conceding a goal.
  16. Agree. That rollicking that Allan Cowan gave them done wonders
  17. Is that the old Storm Queen? The Dolphin is definitely of the other persuasion and I thought the Smiddy was that way as well.
  18. I repeat, I don't for one minute believe that the 25pt deduction has anything to do with the fact that when eventually dished out Dundee had 25 league games to play. Arbitrary judgements are never ideal but when in the hands of a bunch of dithering amateurs like the SFL they're positively ludicrous. Why had the SFL not put in place legislation to deal with clubs going into administration? It's not that they didn't get wake up calls (Gretna & Livinghell). Dundee should have known before the deed what fate awaited them. It certainly shouldn't be left to clubs many of which in various degrees could likely benefit from the level of points deduction. I would suggest an immediate automatic points deduction say 10 pts, a ban on promotion for that season, and a further deduction the following season based on length of time in administration (say 1pt for every week in administration). But all that's of secondary importance to having legislation in place. So because of SFL negligence Dundee have every right to take their case to the SFA. When someone looks at the judgement from a legal point of view and asks what yardstick was used in meting out their punishment and then asks did any representatives stand to gain from it the SFA view of Dundee's penalty could well be different. There's no way that serial cheats like Dundee should get off lightly but through SFL incompetence that remains a possibility.
  19. I don't for one minute believe that was how the 25 points came about. If there was only 23 game remaining they'd only get docked 23 pts? I just don't think so. Anyway why 1pt a game? Besides surely it's the points they accumulated with a squad they couldn't afford prior to going into admin that should be under scrutiny? The SFL are incompetent. Just because we're all happy to see Dundee get docked more than most of us expected doesn't make the SFL less incompetent.
  20. It is surely as simple as that. If their USH was working properly and it had been switched on early enough 100% of the playing surface would be deemed fit. You don't 90% defrost a chicken. I've every sympathy with clubs with USH not switching it on for financial reasons. They weigh up the cost of running the USH against lost revenue for a postponement and make a commercial decision accordingly. That's OK in my book and we'd have known the game was off well in advance. Falkirk FC=bampots
  21. I think they have every right to appeal to the SFA. The SFL are totally at fault for having no legislation in place to deal with clubs both entering into administration and the time they remain in administration. The fact that Dundee are serial cheats is irrelevant. Even potential serial cheats deserve to know their likely fate before committing the crime. I've asked before why 25pts? Why not 24pts or 26pts?
  22. You do ask a lot of questions. Nothing wrong with that of course
