  1. In addition to recent signings Smith and Mayo, Ian McCall also talking about still hoping to sign 2-3 more players and to make further announcements soon. All sounds very positive. Making the season ticket money go a long way!
  2. Apologies fot typo - a 'not' too many! Couldn't read my own writing!!
  3. Reject would be defined as something not wanted in the first place or something already possessed which is no longer wanted. In respect of current and former players Doolan, for example, is certainly a reject (club chose not to offer a new contract)! Others whom the club wanted to stay but who left for whatever reason couldn't IMO not be considered a reject! I don't know the circumstances or details of many of the players who are no longer with us but many of those mentioned on this thread seem to fall into the category best described as 'ex-Jags'!
  4. Tempting fate but if Goodwin plays Brophy there is every chance we could win 3-0!
  5. Good news about Smith. Certainly an upgrade on past signings by Archibald and Caldwell (Kakay excepted). Bad news about Brownlie. Wish him all the best and a quick and complication free return. Disappointed for O'Ware. I thought he would be a good signing but even prior to his injury he never really got near the form he showed at Morton! As much as I continued to hope he would realise his potential with us I admit to thinking it was inevitable he would leave for a fresh start somewhere. Does he intend to remain in football or is he looking at another career? As a club we appear to have been unlucky in recent years in terms of sustaining long-term injuries Bannigan, O'Ware and now Brownlie!
  6. In my view the manager is correct to give as many players as he can game time. Mc Call thinks that the Championship is wide open and again I agree with him. Therefore it's important to get off to a good start and to have as many players fit and ready to go as possible. 3 friendlies and a couple of weeks training won't achieve this. On the plus side our two main Strikers are doing well and have scored all of our goals. Our midfield with Docherty in there looks strong. On the negative we should be looking for more goals and from other players. I am sure the defence, very good last season, will come onto form once the manager decides on his best back line which for me is Foster, McKenna, Bell and Holt - at least until Brownlie is fit! I also hope O'Ware comes good but it looks like his injury has sapped all his confidence. At least we are doing better than Kilmarnock and they don't have a St Mirren or Dunfermline in their group!
  7. My Airdrie supporter friend, who admittedly doesn't rate Murray, their manager, told me that Airdrie's good form and results towards the end of last season was all down to Turner! He told me Turner controlled the middle of the park and dictated Airdrie's play and that he will never forgive me for Thistle 'stealing' their best player!!
  8. On the basis of what the Manager said in his reaction to the match he is pretty much in agreement with comments on this thread. Lots positives going forward from Midfield to Striker; two goals should have been more (the old PT story) and very poor defensively not just the back line but as a team! Also, and importantly, a number of players not quite up to match fitness. Given his long absence O'Ware certainly one of then in addition to our whole Midfield (all of whom, it seems missed periods of training). Not often fans and a manager come up with similar match appraisals! Although we lost the match the statistics and comments suggest we actually had the measure of Dunfermline who let's not forget reached the play-offs last season. So let's trust the manager to get the players fit and improve our teamwork and defending as a team! Personally I was delighted to see Rudden score from the off! I am still enthusiastic about this season. Another text from Doncaster saying 'Partick Thistle worthy Champions' will be very welcome!
  9. Agree. Like the home top especially with the black lines framing the red and yellow stripes. The away top though has just a little more class. Might even make the players look as if they have more pace than they actually do! We now have two very good kits! Wonder when we will have a kit for European matches?
  10. Agree with both of the above......... except the socks!
  11. My Rangers friend told me on Monday, with a big smile on his face, his team where going to play a friendly against the 'mighty Partick Thistle' and that Gerrard intends to field his strongest team available! I told him he will need his strongest team! I am happy we are arranging such games. Has anyone noticed that our friendly games so far are with 'friendly clubs. That is with the exception of EK, games with clubs who like us have all had issues with the SPFL. Is this coincidence, given we have all moved on? Where are the' friendly' games with the likes of Ross Co, St Mirren, Hibs, QoS, Raith, Dundee & Dundee Utd?
  12. I don't know anything about this player but think it's generally risky to make decisions about signing a player who falls into the 'trialist' category based on one game. The odds, for a number of reasons, are stacked against such players! Decisions should be made over a few games and a period of training with the squad. In his early days with us I thought Rudden was way out of his depth but looking at him in the last 11-12 games of last season and I couldn't believe I was watching the same player!
  13. The past is past and that is why ND intends to be present at these events - because in normal circumstances he would be present! The other view could be that he is attending to reassert his position as SPFL CEO. I think ND wants to be present for the former reason - that is he would normally be present! My reason for thinking this - everything I read and hear about this individual suggests he has absolutely no empathy, understanding, awareness or appreciation of the injustice inflicted on 3 football clubs in the pandemic. He is oblivious to the emotional turbulence caused by decisions he helped make!
  14. Seems a good all round solution for Dobbie! I was never convinced signing for us was a good idea for Dobbie or the Jags. The 'fit' didn't feel right!
  15. Sad news. A strong character and great manager who did things his way. We were never short of profile on and off the park with Bertie as our manager. All the best to Bertie and family.
  16. . Thanks for this. I think you are right. I will try to tone down my excitement for the new season and developments related to new signings and be patient.
  17. Were we ever really in the frame for Mulgrew? I imagine he must have been on a very good contract at Blackburn I take it as a positive if we were a serious contender to sign him as it means we must have more financial clout than I previously thought we had! Does anyone have any 'in the know' info about imminent signings, players we are after etc? Its all gone quiet and the clock is ticking!
  18. People like Doncaster, Maxwell, Petrie, Nelms & that invisible SPFL President, McLennan will always present the 'facts' in a manner that shows they did the right things or they did what was best in an impossible situation! To do otherwise would merely highlight that they were wrong. If I were privileged to be at Firhill on flag day I would certainly be with Jaggernaut in making his day as uncomfortable as possible whilst at the same time making sure the manager, team and officials of Partick Thistle FC were praised for their success - in difficult circumstances. 3 months or longer in the Chinese Space Station would be a fitting reward for Doncaster and the rest of the above motley crew.
  19. I hadn't realised our mainly white away Jersey was to be worn with black shorts. My initial thinking was that this Jersey together with white shorts perhaps with a red, yellow and black trim would look great! Having just visited the website to look at the black shorts I am impressed. I think we may 'dazzle' the opposition with sheer volume of red, yellow and black colour flashes on the jersey and shorts! Hope we don't 'dazzle' our own players as well!!
  20. Agree about needing competition and more quality in the squad. Looking at the above Mc Kenna and a fit O'Ware could arguably provide cover for the back 4. Niang, Gordon and Murray cover Midfield and McIver the 'spare' Striker! However the bench does look 'thin' on quality and perhaps has too many question marks against individuals. For example, Gordon, neither a midfielder or a striker IMO! So what's his best position? O'Ware fitness? McKenna, Murray & McIver largely unproven! So agree - squad requires bit more depth and quality but do we have the resources to make this happen?
  21. Thank you for this info re Foster. Must have missed this. For me that is also good news! I suspect having signed McCowan, Dundee will make McDaid surplus to requirements. Afraid I never thought he had the makings of a player so not keen on signing him. If McCall does go for McDaid, and I do think our manager has an eye for a player, then I will be very happy to be proven wrong! I do not fancy Dobbie. Unfortunately I can't think of any strikers, midfielders, wingers etc whom we could/should go after!
  22. I like Sneddon and think he has what it takes to be a first class keeper. That however doesn't give him a 'clean sheet' from me. He must prove the above and having another keeper capable of mounting a serious challenge for the number 1 spot is an absolute necessity for both Sneddon and the Club!
  23. As 'new' signings we have Holt, Bell, Turner & Tiffoney. All look very good signings. Bell and Tiffoney proved themselves while on loan - so we know what they can do. Turner was impressive with Airdrie so Holt who has a reasonable pedigree is to some extent the 'unknown' quantity! What is the position with Foster? I haven't read anything about a contract extension or does his contract run into next season anyway? One last question other than another Keeper do we need anymore signings, eg, striker! Team looking good - now if only we can get back to Firhill to cheer them on!
  24. Same here AJ. My wife refuses to kill them. Generally she leaves them alone but as we live in a small seaside/country village we receive regular visits. When she thinks they are becoming invasive they are collected into small plastic boxes and escorted out of the house to be deposited into the garden where they can lead a healthy life! I am informed those that are Jags fans get to stay!!
