  1. Saw this story... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cg33138kyp4o Are members of the Jags Foundation "owners" of the football club in the same way as this? And if so, is there any reason why we shouldn't be doing international online marketing to attract new small-level "owners". Or does that defeat the purpose of "fan ownership"? And therefore something we wouldn't want. Interested in thoughts. If I'm talking nonsense just tell me.
  2. Our history is full of players who struggled at the top level with other clubs but were successful for us. And vice versa.
  3. Ah, a huge figure from a great Thistle era. RIP Gerry
  4. I'm quite hopeful that Doolan is improving as a manager. It makes sense; you throw anyone into a first job and they're going to have a lot to learn. Good signs for me are that he's flexible, willing to change things that aren't working, and a fairly calm yet very positive presence. If he has indeed learned from the past season and a half, and if he recruits well, I reckon we could have a decent run at it next season. No one coming into the league is giving me too much fear (though they'll all be competitive).
  5. Ive never done a scientific study on it, but my impression is that down the years loads of very experienced players have missed penalties in high pressure situations, especially shoot-outs (Beckham, Platini, Baggio, Bannigan etc), and I wonder if on average they fare any better than youngsters. You certainly often hear experienced professionals talking about the fearlessness of younger players. I have no issue with anything or anyone last night. They did us proud, they were unlucky, Raith Rovers have been the slightly better team over the season and good luck to them.
  6. Like when Scotland beat England in a second leg playoff. I sometimes wonder about the similarities between Thistle and Scotland, and about me and my pain being the common denominator (while recognising just how self-obsessed that sounds, and is, and particularly on a forum where most people share that common denominator; but I bet I'm not the only one who's thought it).
  7. Blame blame blame. What is it with always looking for someone to blame? Does it just make people feel better somehow?
  8. County and St Johnstone going to the last day. No rest. Probably suits the championship team when it comes to the playoff final.
  9. By no means the best goal, but I think my wildest celebration was when Tom Snith scored a late equaliser at Celtic park in the mid 90s. A combination of the stage of the season, our league position, the opposition and venue, my age, the time of the goal and the fact that it followed immediately on the back of one that had been harshly disallowed. it was perfect.
  10. I think a lot of these suggestions are based on solving problems but doing so by messing with the parts of the team that are working. I wouldn't be moving McBeth, Robinson or Fitzpatrick from their current roles (though a bit of flexibility in forward areas during the game could be good). Also, while Neilson doesn't impress me much, he gives protection to the back four that we were severely lacking before. So maybe Bannigan for Stanway, maybe Alston for McInroy, maybe Alston for Stanway with McInroy moving inside, maybe Ngwenya somewhere. But not at the expense of the positions that are working well.
  11. I've always said a one goal first leg advantage is a shaky position. Leaves you with a few days to dwell on what you might give away. So I'm not too down.
  12. Wow. That's a good stat actually. How come these tennis players look tired?
  13. Either we or Raith Rovers now have two games to play before the play-off final. St Johnstone or Ross County have three. Someone remind me what's unfair in all of this?
  14. Lewis Neilson looked like a good footballer who couldn't defend and then moved into midfield and looked like a good footballer who lacked mobility
  15. If he does he won't be a Thistle player for long
  16. I'm okay with a draw. I think taking a lead into the second leg can feel more edgy.
  17. It's just a mention on a list If Elgin City did that then it would be a great achievement. I agree that for Thistle it wasn't. But you can't define what is an 'honour" by the status of the club. If you did that you wouldn't be listing any of Celtic's league titles while "Rangers" were down the leagues.
  18. Finishing 8th in the Premier League is a greater achievement than winning the second division, but only one of them is an "honour" and it's not 8th.
  19. Solid third place. On to the play offs. Hopefully a bit refreshed.
