  1. That's a good starting point for another topic, but I'll continue it here: Who is the "hardest" Thistle player that you can remember? That is, somebody who never took prisoners, and sometimes even went beyond the "call of duty". I'll propose Charlie Smith. I used to watch him a lot during games, and he got up to tons of "stuff" even when the ball was far away. I distinctly remember him cussing and then seriously clugging a h*n within a very short time in a match at Firhill; and he seemed happy to take the booking. Basically, in season 70-71 he was hard as nails. Ronnie Glavin wasn't averse to mixing it either. More recently........ well, who?
  2. Sorry, but what the hell is the SPFL Trust Trophy? Did it used to be known as something else? What will it be called next year?
  3. Anybody watched any World Cup matches? Due to work I haven't seen any live matches. How has the standard been? 'Monra Aussies!
  4. That's right. So, from all the responses, it seems that players who go out on loan might well go on to have a successful career, but rarely at the club who sent them out on loan! (Doolan is one of the rare exceptions.) In other words, being told by the boss that "You're going out on loan to get more experience" for 90% of the players means that "You're already heading out the door."
  5. This question randomly (?) came to me as I was frying up tonight's dinner (not loaned).: What players who've come to us on loan have returned to their "parent" club and gone one to be a big success with the team that lent them to us? Anybody? I thought: maybe Dorrans and Wilkinson did "pretty" well. But who else (particularly OF players) went on to show that they had benefited from playing for PTFC and also significantly benefited PTFC? And I started to think about this especially from the point of view of "OF" loanees..... Has anybody from either of the two erse cheeks who came to us on loan ever gone on to become a big success at either porkheid or eyepox? If not, doesn't this say something about our continued willingness to beg for take on what maybe those clubs have already identified as expendable (or even dross)? If so, why do we keep on doing it? One could argue that it's almost a (small) part of the overall scheme within Scottish football to preserve the privileged position of the two erse cheek teams at all costs, including the future of the clubs that take on those rejects loanees.
  6. If they want to see their team winning they should turn out for the Thistle tie.
  7. We're not talking about what the players wear when playing matches, but leisure wear.
  8. That's definitely a cracking-looking top. But it's the meaningless "Constructed for maximum comfort" spin that worries me. Presumably if it was 100% cotton they would say so, but they don't; so I'm guessing it's made from some abomination of polyester and maybe another sweat rash-inducing manmade (can you even say that anymore?) travesty. Would love it if I got proved wrong before they sell out!
  9. Currently in pessimistic mode, and can only really foresee the historical trend continuing: a feeble performance by Thistle ending in a comfortable win for the tarts, if not a drubbing.
  10. What's that Bluetooth they're offering...... is it available on the NHS?
  11. Who's going to start the thread for this clearly winnable game? My last memory of a game there was when Christie Elliott's last-minute sclaff sent us all into raptures. That kind of helped to come to terms with the absolute, heart-sinking awfulness of Drumgelloch.... All I'll say is I hope that some people living there can try to work towards a better life and raise their everyday environment above being a sh*t/hell-hole, because no matter how you try to dress it up, that's what it is. Welcome to the so-called UK in the 21st century. 2-0 Jags. Cue the bile:
  12. He's certainly "filled out" in the past few months...... doesn't seem to adversely affect his ability to outpace and outsmart defenders, or even his ability to shrug off their attempts to clug him.
  13. garryc, No doubt I'll do the same as you! I've also been down the monthly-subscription-without-almost-any-home-games rabbit hole, but to be fair, it worked to my advantage at the end of last season, with all the play-off matches. This season the club already has my season ticket (which I won't use, being about just as far away from Firhill as you can get on this planet), my Centenary Fund (never will I win it ) subscription, and now the live streaming "scam," for the full season! Seriously, I'm sure that they'll work to sort out the problems (last season it was pretty good), and that the sick presenter will either medicate appropriately or desist from duty to spare us from sharing his suffering (the game usually takes care of that). A general question (well, three): I've noticed that each time you want to view a live stream you need to answer whether you're a home or an away fan. (There is no "neutral" option.) But why is that home or away information important? Does the away side get a proportion of the live stream takings for the match? Or is it just because it's one of those useless pieces of information that's easy to get online and that nobody will ever make use of?
  14. Hoping that Zander can become a real and long-lasting star at Firhill. He's certainly started well.
  15. That seems a bit unfair on the 24th season ticket holder.
  16. You mean the previous programmes went from Page 2 to Page 4? That's scandalous!
  17. Too late now, but I wonder if Dowds and Mullen had played a handful of games together from the start, whether some kind of understanding between then and a promising option for us might have emerged. Graham: Can't complain about his goals, and assists. But can complain about his attempts to cheat at almost every ball launched from our defence in his direction. He makes no effort whatsoever to win the ball, but starts falling down backwards against the defender while holding onto him (i.e., committing a foul) while already mouthing off at the referee. Not pretty, not intelligent, and not helping the team's aims.
  18. Having finally seen each of the goals we lost (no thanks to the shitey PTTV live stream), well the first one was just an unlucky deflection which could just as easily have gone the other way. The second was just a collective failure of the defence, which had just been messed about by the manager. Quite right of Dools to hold his hands up for the loss of two points, although we squandered several better chances to score.
  19. They should seriously consider refunding payment for last night's disastrous stream. Continuous buffering for minutes on end. Screen completely frozen for one period of several minutes. No sound at all for most of the 2nd half..... which at least us spared us the ear-splitting horrors of one of the commentators coughing his guts up directly into the microphone every couple of minutes. Didn't even get to see either of the RR goals because of the poor quality of the stream. If you're thinking of trying it out, my advice right now would be DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!! Until they get it sorted.
  20. Another shitey, bottle-crash ending as the Thistle players decided to sit back in their own half, and when they got possession to go in for the useless sideways and back-passes routine, with some back passes of 40 yards or so turning a potential attack into nothing but another start of a sideways routine. Raith Rovers fully deserved a point. They could/should have been 2 up before we scored, then were unlucky to hit the bar near the end. We have to improve. I think we have the players, but what is required is a tougher mentality.
  21. Kirkcaldy: the town that turned its back on the sea.
  22. I think that the best way to ensure a new surge in season ticket sales will be a victory in our opening league match.
  23. This season's tops are already making me think for the first time that I can't actually decide whether I like them or dislike them, and that might be the case even when we get to the end of the season. ETA: If we win promotion, or a major cup (not the Challenge f*ckin charade), I'll love and buy them both!
  24. While recognizing the dangers of trying to squeeze ever more out of mugs season ticket holders, got to say that I'm truly impressed by the level of support shown so far this season (before it even really starts!). And that's no slur on the pay-as-you-go supporters who'll turn up for some matches if and when they can; they contribute importantly to the life blood of the club.
