  1. Paranoid as I am, I wondered how getting into bed with a rival drinks company would be seen by the League Sponsor (Irn Bru). Then I saw that we've been sent as far away as possible on Jan 2nd....
  2. And they wonder why there is less respect these days shown by offspring towards their parents!
  3. I came to quite like him in the end, though he's not migratest Jags mascot.
  4. Ah, that would explain a lot.
  5. I guess we'll just need to agree to differ on that.
  6. Topless anywhere between 18 and say, 35.
  7. Arthur is a Firhill legend, no doubt about it. And in my posts above I praised his improvement in handling crosses and his penalty-stopping abilities. He was reliable in that he was around for a long time; no other team wanted him to the point where they actually came in and took him. Yes, he managed to hold off several temporary, mediocre replacements who, don't forget, were brought in for the very reason that KA was considered dodgy at times. That's not revisionism; it's the facts. Much the same thing happened to Roughie during his Scotland career. Nobody has said on this thread that other keepers don't have weaknesses. But I maintain that KA is behind the other three that I mentioned in overall ability. That's not flack. Or if it is, then KA's reputation and record should be strong enough for it to bounce off. Rough certainly has nothing to worry about.
  8. I can't argue against the likely universal recognition of the colours. But many other teams (Albion Rovers in Scotland, Lincoln City, Lens, all those TAPIRAY) all play in red and yellow. But I'd say the long history of hoops distinguishes us even more.
  9. Brill. It'll still make me ill at Firhill.
  10. It would actually be quite interesting to stop a random sample of people in the street, give them a blank outline of a footballer and some coloured crayons, and ask them to do a simple sketch of "a Partick Thistle player". My guess is that around 85% of people (or at least those who knew anything at all about football) would draw red and yellow hoops, maybe 10% (at most) would draw stripes, 1% the jester, and the rest some other random assortment of colours. It would then be interesting to break down the results into different age categories of people.
  11. That is true. In fact with KA in goal I used to feel that we had a good chance of coming out of a penalty against us without losing a goal. His handling of crosses also definitely improved in his last couple of seasons with us. A decent enough keeper, but behind Langfield, Tuffey and Fox in terms of all-round ability.
  12. There are a few keepers that make you think that it'll be really tough to score against them even when you get the chance. The fat, toothless H*n Goram was one of them, and it has to be said that more recently Rab Douglas is another (his brilliant saves against us at Dens recently reinforced that view). Would the prospect of Kenny Arthur lining up against Thistle cause the same feeling of trepidation? Err, nah.
  13. Yeah, unless it's an electronic gadget (and therefore expensive), or "educational" (and therefore expensive) "toy" shops don't seem very interested in toys these days. You could always whittle one by hand from a lump of wood....... Or throw in a stone and tell her it's the Titanic....
  14. Anything here?: http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=toy+boat&_sacat=See-All-Categories
  15. Dramatic, right enough. I see the one of the couple lying in the road has been attracting media attention. Was it a kiss, or was he speaking to her closely in the midst of all the noise and turmoil, as she was actually injured? The truth will eventually emerge, I imagine. This Greek dog veteran protester/rioter gave me a laugh yesterday: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13802940
  16. I think that's a tad negative. Thistle's red and yellow hoops are instantly recognisable across Scotland and probably even further afield, and that's been the case for decades. You're right about the relatively recent chopping and changing that has taken over in some way diluting the Thistle brand. Several of our more recent tops are easily forgotten, likely to be recognized by nobody who isn't a Thistle supporter. But as soon as it's a red and yellow hooped top, from the middle of the 20th century to one of its more recent versions, it immediately stands out as "Partick Thistle". I know that some people prefer stripes, but even those aren't as memorable (I actually hate the SPL one that we had last time around). Partick Thistle: Red and Yellow hoops, and thus it should always be! Still, even the Daleks are "being rested for now"....
  17. I wouldn't be surprised if the exciting signing that was Jim Hamilton actually contributed to a slump in season ticket sales...
  18. I'd forgotten all about him, and that.
  19. I'm genuinely perplexed........ Are you being serious? I love it! Couple of snippets: The lead singer is the late Carl Wayne (died a couple of years ago), who joined The Hollies (yes, The Hollies) on a tour around 10 years ago. And the wonderfully talented Roy Wood (founder of The Move, Wizzard, ELO) is a guest (along with Kim Wilde ) on the next Status Quo tour. Jaggernaut: the No.1 source for news of music of today!
  20. Congratulations. What is the "conditional" part. Adequate funding?
  21. Sigesige, I'll be in Japan in a couple of weeks. PM me soon if you want anything from Greaves.
  22. Tough, but it gets things up and running right away. Come through those openers with three victories and that will sent a clear message to everyone that we're no longer messing around on a 3-, 4-, 5+-year plan. The time has come!
  23. I couldnae go beyond 20 seconds.
