  1. I'm out of likes and HAHAs! Perhaps I can borrow a HA HA from BB !
  2. Quite right. I'm being a bit parochial
  3. Interestingly before 1905 the goalkeeper could come off his line before the kick was taken, and some keepers would rush out to close down the distance just before the kicker struck the ball. Willie Foulke, a 6 feet 3 and 23 stone keeper used to run from his goal shouting at the kicker. This changed in 1905, when the keeper had to stay on his line till the kick was taken. Foulke is also reputed to be the origin of the goalie expression "keep a clean sheet". It is said that when he played for Bradford against Accrington Stanley, the opposition complained about the colour of his goalkeeper's top, which clashed with their strip. No replacement jersey could be found (tops for players of such large dimensions were in short supply). A white bed sheet was procured from a nearby house, and Foulkes wrapped this round him for the match. Bradford won 1-0, and the sheet was returned without any dirt marks on it, and this led to the "keep a clean sheet" expression!! It was also claimed that Foulke was the origin of the football chant "Who ate all the pies?", but this claim has subsequently been debunked.
  4. Odds on that currently 11-1. 2-2draw 14-1. Being a Friday night on the telly game, I long ago gave up watching, as I thought I was bringing the team bad luck. Nothing altered, though
  5. Interestingly the last draw we had was 20 games ago, including 3 friendlies, away at Cove Rangers on 27 April. Hamilton have conceded 15 league goals this season, we've conceded 13. I wonder what the odds are on a high scoring draw.
  6. Link didn't work for me either. But income pages below
  7. Let's see if I can move up the table a little bit!! HAAHHAHAHHHHAAHAHHAH Thanks, BB.
  8. In an Edinburgh Evening News article, the club said that they want to attract Hibs or Hearts fans to their games, if those fans can't get to a game. A "second club'. I think the inference is that they turn up if either Premier club has an away game, or game where they can't get tickets, but still want to see a game. Stockport County in the Manchester area and Tranmere Rovers in the Liverpool area have successfully done this for years.
  9. Lucky you.....my closest senior club is a 45 minute car journey up the A2 & M2 to Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium - when I get the petrol
  10. Zander Miller has a broken ankle. I fully agree with you, 4-2 up when the game gets abandoned. The referee also sent off two Bo'ness players in the draw in Wick, with Bo'ness hotly contesting the decisions. I suspect neither Wick nor the ref will be getting a warm welcome at Newtown Park.
  11. The last outstanding 1st round tie, the replay between Bo'ness Utd & Wick Academy will be replayed tomorrow night.
  12. I see that today's match is sponsored by the friends and family of Johnny Farmer. If that's the same John Farmer who was in my class as secondary school, he passed away in the 70s. Sadly his younger brother Peter passed away not long after, both from heart conditions. Both were fervent Jags fans, who regularly attended games, so I'm happy to see their memory lives on.
  13. Sena scores with a shot for Alloa's first, away at Montrose, and an assist for their second. Boy seems to be getting on fine.
  14. I think I'm a bit familiar with the article. Just trying to find out who refereed the RaithRovers away game
  15. A while back the OS carried an article on the book "1971 What a Sensation" by Lorne Gardner, on the 1971 League Cup campaign. It was due to be published on 8th September. As my order hadn't arrived, I checked the website of the publisher JMD Media. They have a note there saying publication has been delayed till the end of September. For those of you waiting for your order, it should arrive by the end of this month.
  16. GL,BB is completely correct. We all chose our own preliminary round choices for the end of August ties. The BB selection process that both you and I had our discussion about hasn't yet taken place!! You may wish to change your tag to "Dr Who".....
  17. D'ye no mean the Prosecution has made it's case? Let the jury decide! I'm told that the jury found in favour of Gianlucatoni. Each side to meet their own costs.
  18. By the looks of that hammer, BB, Gianlucatoni won't be back online for the next few days!
  19. Just back from walking the dog . Quite right DD. Manager was Andy Roxburgh.
  20. The Thistle Archive twitter account gives 1988 as the year. Scotland 0 Colombia 0 17 May 1988. Rous Cup.
  21. I'll also go with your algorithm suggestions, BB. I was about to fill them in, but I see that the clever gianlucatoni has discovered a short cut! Can I ask that you transfer the recommendations you sent me into your spreadsheet as well? It will save me buggering it up if I make one of my occasional typos! As ever, many thanks.
  22. I see what you've done, BB. Thanks for putting in such a lot of work for us punters. Although I'm not a gambling man I confess that for previous tourneys I've had a look at the bookies odds, with the occasional odds on result changed if I liked the opposition. Although I took the fancy named teams in the previous round, I don't think my success rate was that high, so, for what it's worth, you've saved me some time & effort! I'll not be too hasty though, & I'll submit my teams shortly. Again many thanks for going that bit further for us all. In the absence of the Miners Welfare & Dundonald Bluebell, I've got to go for Hill of Beath Hawthorn, followed by Burntisland Shipyard!!
