  1. Not getting carried away, though more optimistic than I have been in many a year. Reason for the optimism: Jackie looks like he has identified the players that can fulfill different roles when the need will undoubtedly arise; The passing and movement has shown a vast improvement; We look far more positive and pacier. More to offer off the bench, and Bannigan ... however the one question to be answered over whether my optimism will be fully justified or not; is how we respond to going a goal down. I think we will be top four regardless, however if we show we have the confidence to stick with the game plan and can battle back from from behind then I believe we will be in with real shout. Falkirk; Dunfermline and Livi are the teams I expect to be up there with us. . . . . If Dumbarton away on the final day of the season turns out to be meaningful for the wrong reason, I promise never to be optimistic again!!! Tip for most improved player this season: Elliot
  2. Viking is better than the Commerical. (Dingwall) - Will miss the trips to Dingwall and the Haggis pies. Frews in Dundee is good, but will be missing that this year too! We've lost a lot of the better away days this season! For those travelling by train to Livingston North, then the pubs there may be worth trying. May require sharing a taxi as its a wee hike down. [Grant what was the name of the pub at Carmondean before the Saltire?]
  3. Apologies if already posted, however a fair assessment of our performance on Sunday posted on an everton forum may be on interest. Couple of wee mistakes on players names, though a good overview all the same. http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/46365-PARTICK-THISTLE-3-EVERTON-1-MATCH-REPORT Excellent performances over the weekend, particularly on Sunday. If we replicate that form in the league, we will definately be in the promotion hunt. Passing game was classy, which no doubt prompted AB to state in his report.....'Thistle’s football at times was breathtaking with some good attacking play and all cylinders firing, there was nothing to worry them from the Merseysiders.'
  4. Press Statement Joint statement on behalf of the Scottish FA, Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League The Scottish FA, the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football League have, for the past two years, been involved in a series of discussions at Board level with the objective of securing radical and co-ordinated reconstruction of the game in this country. During this time we have done nothing as teams outside the SPL were seen as meaningless... however Today, we are asking clubs to consider a package of reforms which have the potential to rejuvenate Scottish football at senior level and safeguard its future at a time when uncertainty and fear prevail. As you are aware the SPL decided to expel the club previously known as Rangers however we want them back as soon as possible, so today we are acting. Once they are back where they belong - and we will get them back - we will then change the rules again. We thank you for assisting us to look after ourselves and are sure the non SPL clubs will understand that a radical overhaul will be required next season to ensure the continued strength of Scottish football. 5. Good post Yoda! In addition to all the goalpost moves you have correctly pointed out, after all the shenanigans that have gone on; does anyone really have any faith that come the following season should Sevco gain promotion the league structure waould be looked at again. i.e., SPL revert back to lets look after ourselves and stuff everyone else! It would not surprise me should Sevco be parachuted into SFL1 and find themselves 10 points adrift at xmas, that the transfer embargo be lifted for January. Alas the governing bodies have lost all credibility - what if anything was left of it - and little trust remains. Another thought, what if clubs like Kilmarnock; Motherwell; Dundee United of Hearts were to go bust and liquidated.... would they automatically start in SFL1 - should it remain? The whole episode is a shambles... SFL3 at best, anything else and Scottish football as a whole is being sold down the river.
  6. Promising start for a pre-season friendly. In control throughout and generally knocked the ball about well barring a spell midway through the second half where it became a bit scrappy. Murray may have only played the first 45, though left me with the impression he will be a key player for us this season. It was good to see Cairney at the game, he will be missed this season particularly for the goals he gave us from midfield. At the same time I think we will be a stronger side this season with the younger players having that extra years experience together with the new arrivals. The one area of concern is up front as we started off where we left off last season passing up on some great chances... if 'wearethistle' are sponsoring a player or two this season, suggest we skip on the strips and concentrate on buying shooting boots instead.
  7. Usually I say great pics, even ones where I spot myself in the background.... but a scary close-up - just what was Donald thinking about!!! To be fair the other pics were great, so good job there. Just a thought but maybe a rogues gallery for the season ahead could be compiled...no forget that, if I see anymore pics of me l may have to think about returning my ST.
  8. There is bias but extends to both the old firm in voting power and I have no doubt the same would happen if it had been Celtic in this position.
  9. WE HAVE CONSIDERED FIVE SIX SCENARIOS 1.Rangers stay in SPL 2.Rangers to Third Division 3.Rangers to First Division 4.Rangers to SPL2 5.Rangers terminated or suspended 6.Rangers join the Goals 5 a side league 1. RANGERS STAY IN SPL •Not an option •SPL clubs have indicated no 3. RANGERS TO FIRST DIVISION •Not an option •SFL clubs have indicated no on same grounds as SPHell •It is financially possible for the clubs in SFL1 to recover from this scenario as they have managed without SERVCO in this league in the past. 6. RANGERS apply for entry to the Goals 5 a side league •Providing they have enough players
  10. Lenny, Lenny Lenny.... looks like you will have something to tell your Airdrie workmates in the morning!
  11. Looking forward to it already - a big well done to the organisers!
  12. Got my ST as usual, though do not want Newco with us in SFL1. There is no way they should be allowed into SFL1 and as for SFL3, Spartans and Deveronvale have more history and a right to apply than some new team! If the worst came to the worst and they were admitted, I'd still support the Jags as usual, with the one exception being away games against Newco! The currant buns are rubbing their hands at the thought of clubs going bust for not supporting them, I'm not intending helping them get their jollies by staying away. Hopefully sanity will prevail and they start no higher then SFL3 (lower would be nice) Oh for those that saw the rumours of a possible Newco takeover of Bury, I have to say Bury Rangers would be a rather appropriate name!
  13. MWM seems convinced we are in a pre-season tournament and how many Jags fans know that and if they do, who we will be playing? As it happens the Dundee fan got it from an Airdrie fan. So I'm saying if we are playing in a tournament, I'm putting my 10p on this. Tenuous but it was mentioned a while back we would be playing one of the ugly sisters pre-season and as only one of them are left, it could fit!
  14. As a complete stab in the dark. Airdrie, Celtic and an Everton XI Got this in a txt from a Dundee fan two days ago.. did not see anything on any of the others forums so dismissed it.. but now wondering!
  15. I think the use of the North Stand is a great idea and hopefully is a great success, however if getting fans to go the North Stand rests in the crucial need of a fag during the game it could be doomed!
  16. We played great stuff that day, terrific support too even though we lost 2-0. Remember singing we can see you sneaking out to the Dee fans leaving before he final whistle. Still can't fathom how we lost that one, given it was one of our best performance is a very long time.
  17. Maybe I was too surprised at Foxy not ever turning around I missed Paton, fair play to him.
  18. Dire....clueless... players obviously knew that too, as not one acknowledgd what was a good turnout given previous recent performances. Two new lads added nothing though to be fair, none really did. I'll reserve judgement for a couple of games to give them time. Cannot be easy coming into the team the at the moment. We just don't look like scoring and need games to finish 5 mins early... don't know if can takes 0-0 with a few minutes left on the clock much more.
  19. Don't know, however from what I saw of him last season, although a bit naive looked promising.
  20. Would keep the above - just out on Burns for me, would have been a no, though would like to see if he the few minutes he had the other week was going to be a new Burns, if so, potential keep, Not in a position to say on McGrotty and Ketterer. Feel a bit guilty about Archie, not sure he would get through another season.
  21. Most frustrating player by a mile, though would still keep him even had been out of contract at the end of the season. If he could learn how to control a ball, then he has promise.. and is it just me but at throw-ins, have you noticed he now stands close to the line and plays it back parallel to stop him hitting the return back for an opposition throw! Improving already - now if he could only change to boots that are not made from pin-ball flippers maybe his first touch would improve. For all that, he has something different and I'd keep him.
  22. I wish I suffered amnesia like you - Culter, Raith... and if you go back through the seasons...aghhh...having trouble getting my fingers to type Stirling Albion (Halliwells last game time he took to the pitch for us) We'll have a few more before the end of the season too no doubt, punctuated by the occasional good performance. As for Jackie would have liked to see a bit more animation as too many did not look to have any urgency about them at all. And just how many free kicks did we get, where we took it quick/short to only lose the ball behind where the kick was taken. All very well wanting to be a passing team, but you need players that can actually pass the ball. Dire game, worst, no... lucky to get in the top 5 worst performances of this season, six if you count the friendly at Dumbarton...cold sweat now! As for years... would need to refresh my memory by going through old threads, though there will be plenty! We need to sort it - but with Hutton now gone together with Rowser being out and Flannigan (not exactly renowned for his ball winning) coming in, we were going to be short in midfield. As for Jackie, I still keep him but think when things are clearly going wrong, we need a plan B. i.e., more direct if only to give the opposing defence / keeper something to think about. Positives: Overall, I think Jackie has done well with the players he has managed to bring in. Also he is clearly getting the best out of Cairney - I'd give Cairney the player of the year award now, as he is so far ahead of everyone else - and moving Paton into the middle has on the whole been very successful, Getting Hutton in - there were some mixed views as he came from the HMRC XI, though without him in the side it has left a hole and we are clearly missing him. Hopefully the two new lads will be as successful, if so then maybe, just maybe we will have something better to watch over the coming months. Or else I'll be wanting your amnesia too!
  23. Alas no, had we beat Raith and were going up to Dingwall looking for a fourth straight win and then getting it, I would say we would have an outside chance. However we are just far too inconsistent and have not put together any sort of run. I reckon at a minimum we would probably need to take 40 points from our 18 games, even then Ross would then still only need 30 from 19 to tie. It's not going to happen.
  24. When a football ground was a football ground, magic!
  25. Glad to hear you are on the mend - it was not a day for standing out in the rain taking pics, though great as always.
