  1. Queens Park didn't do Blair Spittal, Andrew Robertson or Aiden Connelly any harm... The perfect place to develop.
  2. I have the option to drive 35 miles up to my office in Perth or work from home in Stirling. I also spend 1 week a month in an office in Dingwall so its important to get the right balance. If I'm busy, I tend to head up the A9 into the office as I know I'll get more done. When I've gone through a busy spell or if I've been on the road a lot and need some 'downtime', working from home is a great option to have. With a baby on the way very soon, this may change! As long as you know you're working as hard as you should be for your salary, it works well and my employer is fine with it.
  3. Wasn't at the game but it sounded all too familiar of away trips to bigger teams. Lack of endeavour and belief. If we manage to put a couple more players out on loan, we might be able to get a couple more in. Does the club stick or twist though? We've probably got enough to stay up and that's perhaps all at PTFC should care about until end of season when contracts run out. IMO, if the club want to 'kick on', we need to replace Balatoni, Muirhead, Craigen, Elliott and Lawless. That's nothing directly against those lads, but they're not top 6 quality.
  4. Sunday's headlines will read; "Doolan puts Dons to the sword" "Jags heap pressure on McInnes" "McInnes bemoans schedule as Dons slump" "Archibald defends tactics as Jags snatch win" "Kris looking up after win"
  5. If we had more money, I'd play U19s plus Craigen and Elliott. As we'll be skint this year with poor crowds, we need a cup run or two. So I'd play same team as yesterday, replacing Stevenson for Doolan.
  6. A draw would have been fair. At 85mins, we capitalised when they completely fell asleep at the throw in. We had barely stopped celebrating when their second went in. Doolan should have fouled the lad when he gave the ball away at 1-0 and then Balatoni should have cleared his lines for the second. Instead he gets his feet all mixed up and it was 2013 all over again. At the end of the day, we're Thistle and it was never going to be the 7 or 9 points we hoped for, but if we really want to finish higher up this year, we need to get wiser. Archie said it at the start of the season but there's been no signs of the gamesmanship or dirty tactics needed to consistently win games in Scottish football. How many times did Stevenson, Muirhead, Higgy and Lawless get fouled and just play on. Meanwhile they're falling over, winning fouls or stopped our moves with tugs and trips all over the park. As for corners? Rank rotten. If we're consistently unable to put a ball into the right area, can we please make sure someone stands at both front post and over the far side so to give us a chance of making a connection. On the plus side, I thought O'Donnell was a breath of fresh air, Osman is awesome and Keenan is improving with every touch of the ball he gets.
  7. 1. The added pressure/embarrassment when you took a friend to watch the Jags, during our slip and slide down the leagues 2. Arguing with my Mother as to whether I should be allowed to go to Inverness midweek, on a school night 3. Lambie's Friday night signings 4. Lambie's debatable loyalty to 'grafters' 5. Albert Craig chasing Gareth Evans down the tunnel at Brockville 6. The constant disappointment in the cup 7. Pannini stickers 8. Being lifted over the turnstiles
  8. Strong first half. Should have been 2 up. Ref terrible. Second half, on the back foot. Wighton looks some player. Referee ABYSMAL Plus from today, we put in a solid performance after they missed penalty, with just ten men. Downside. Our squad is exposed as paper thin, two games into the season. From the stand...Gary Harkins is FINISHED
  9. Came on for injured McMillan (didn't look serious) for about 70mins. Steadied down into a decent performance. Can only get better. Not as assured going forward and I think Bannigan was told to look after him as he wasn't as effective after McMillan went off.
  10. I was a little pessimistic but absolutely no need to be, in the end. Terrific performance full of verve and poise. Ross County were very, very poor defensively but they're no mugs going forward, so we did well to stifle them. Osman star man for me but Fraser deserved MotM, as it was such an emphatic performance in the final third. McMillan also played like a man possessed as did O'Donnell in the second half. The Shed looked great, with decent numbers, all standing. It's great that the club have allowed us to do this. So many other stadia enforce such horrible restrictions these days. On that note, will we be herded into a small corner of Dens Park's main stand on Saturday? It appears that was the case for Killie last week.
  11. Terrific news. Versatile, strong, determined and committed. 2 year deal as well. Well done Jags
  12. Every year this throws up surprises. I suspect some under contract will also be freed or sold. Mair has been pretty solid and obviously had a calming influence on our defence since signing. From what I hear, young Caolan McAleer had a very good season and even Darren Brownlie looked pretty good in the reserves and against the Pars on the TV last night. Christie Elliott works hard but still flatters to deceive and Ryan Scully won’t be any where near the 1st team with Fox / Gallacher ahead of him. Is young James Martin getting a new deal on his return from Belgium? What are the chances of ATS / Osbourne staying – do we have any inside knowledge there?
  13. I don't think any supporter would disagree with that statement but I don't think we have any sort of planning permission or agreement with PropCo to get the City End up and running. Ironically, it appears the once scoffed at thought of improving the main stand is higher up the agenda these days.
  14. As a season ticket holder and regular visitor to the JH stand, I’ll respond to the original post For me, it makes sense to use the Main Stand for the ‘singers’, ‘ultras’ or generally more passionate supporters among us. The atmosphere created by fans in that stand has been terrific. From a JH perspective, it’s been louder than the North Stand for most of the matches this season. I do appreciate that this may be more to do with our home form. Reducing the prices would also add to the growth potential and I’d like to see the entire stand full of red and yellow next season. It would look and sound great from the JH. However, it is completely unacceptable to move a growing contingent without prior consultation and, if necessary, a carefully agreed compromise. As supporters, we must not let ourselves be bullied on this matter. On ANY matter. What makes it a bit difficult, is that there are some inconsistences as to what the North Stand supporters really value. If they really aren’t bothered about their view or the facilities on offer, then why should the Main Stand’s fragilities be a factor here? I reckon the lads and ladettes would make it their own, just as they did with the North. After 2-3 games in there and a nice win or two, we may all begin to PREFER it, not least the players/coaching staff. What was the feedback from the Celtic games? What was the atmosphere like? I missed the general consensus. I look for a good view and the added atmosphere when I go to games. The Main Stand would become an attractive option for many JH supporters, which could help swell the numbers. Over to the Supporters Federation – I hope you get the outcome YOU want. After all, it is YOU who will be most affected. Forever and ever…
  15. We're in the same position Lambie. Baby on the way and considering a new car fit for purpose. All the reviews point to a Qashqai. The Kia Sportage looks even better but isn't quite the same quality. Don't worry about engine size as these new budget SUVs are remarkably light and also benefit from 'eco boost' technology. Unless you're splashing out on a heavy BMW or Audi, there's no need for a big engine. We're actually focussing on the range of small SUVs available as they serve the purpose and are even cheaper. Best in that range is the Renault Captur. Or there's the Nissan Juke... Then again, maybe we'll stick to our 9 year old Golf so I can afford a season ticket next year.
  16. Great Post Brian's been in and around Firhill for years. Just one of the many familiar faces around the place over the years. It's clear he takes pride in his work and his team have ensured our reputation as family club has remained well intact. All the best, Brian. As for Tom, he deserves all the respect, plaudits and most of all, REST, he's undoubtedly earned. I had the pleasure of helping him and Alison sell the programmes a couple of seasons ago and you could tell how proud he was to be creator/editor of such a cherished and sought after product. His enthusiasm, passion and humour made the programme what it is today and I hope Tom finds something to fill the void left by the role he leaves, preferably Thistle related of course! Forever and ever, we'll follow the Jags...
  17. I'm reserving judgement on this until we've heard some official news. I just hope there was some input from the wearethistle team.
  18. Reluctantly choosing to give it a miss today. I will be listening into the games on the radio in the hope we secure 7th place. The difference in prize money between 10th and 7th is quite considerable at £155,000. That could help fund the purchase of Lyle Taylor or a new contract to ATS if we can convince him to stay. Regardless, its been a great season. I was beginning to doubt Archie and a few of the players during that awful run but they've proved the doubters wrong and I'm very confident this group of players and the coaching staff will now go from strength to strength. I reckon we're just 3 or 4 players away from having a real top 6 side.

  20. This is it The run in All games winnable Time to shake relegation fodder Brave selection choices Better substitutions Gutsy performances Discipline Belief Strengthening RnY army Heroes or Villains New contract or free transfer? Step Up
  21. I can't make it as I'm working up north (got my weeks mixed up!) but I'm not too confident about tonight. To the pub to watch it instead...Mon the Jags!
  22. What is the real capacity of Firhill these days? Wiki says this; "The modern stadium comprises three seated stands, with an unused area at the south end. The current capacity of the ground includes 10,102 seats with no standing areas available. The Main Stand was built with an original capacity of 6,000, but now holds somewhere closer in the region of 2,900 seats. There is a small enclosure of terracing at the front of the stand. In January 2006, the club announced that the Main Stand would no longer be used on matchdays due to high maintenance and stewarding costs. There have been exceptions, however, including the Scottish Cup match against Rangers and the final match of the league season against Greenock Morton. On both occasions away fans were seated in the North Stand and the Main Stand. Also when Glasgow Warriors played derby matches against Edinburgh, the main stand was typically used. All home fans are now housed in the stand opposite the old stand, the Jackie Husband Stand. The stand was constructed in 1994 with a capacity of 6,263 and is named after former Thistle player Jackie Husband. The newest stand is the North Stand, at one end of the ground. This has a capacity of 2,014." Those figures don't add up.
  23. My Morton supporting pal says he's sick of Dougie Rae's reckless spending. Even when he stripped Moore's budget and released/sold players at the end of last season, he still handed over good money to sign a bunch of foreigners and overpaid has-beens (O'Connor and Riordan). Added to the fact he clearly had no confidence Moore as he only gave him another year on his 3 year contact, it was never gong to work this year. Kenny Shiels might be regretting taking that job on. I'm not really sure where they go from here. Crumbling stadium, crowds and chairman...
  24. Higgy, Erskine, Taylor, Doolan is probably the best forward line we've had in my lifetime. It's even better than Burns, Hardie, Britton
  25. Don't remember this but I think he was the scorer for Cowdenbeath when the beat us 1-0 at Firhill during that terrible Scottish Cup run in the early 90s. A relatively big scalp for Cowden with at least 2 divisions between the sides at the time.
