  1. It might be only a hair on the horses backside, but a good Christmas prezzie for any body interested in racing. A company called Owners group offers shares for around£50.00 in some good horses[last year Getaway Trump and Pentland hills were just two] You get a update from the stable every week and a video of it training on occasions. when the horse runs, you can apply for a owners badge, which allows you into the paddock if you are lucky in the draw. You own the share and have to pay a reduced amount [about half] every year, which can be sold on if you don't want it anymore. I have a share in two horses, and it's the best thing I've done for a long time.
  2. Davie used to own the Woodside pub. He bought the bottom flat next door and changed it into the lounge.
  3. Dougie Baird was reserve to Eric Caldow in the Scotland side on many occasions. Only got a B cap against Jutland.
  4. Every club in Scotland has let young players go and then find the same players after a year or so turn into good players. Some even make it to play for Scotland
  5. Could be ready in a couple of weeks.
  6. The team is soft and I'm sure Ian will rectify that in January. I myself would like to see O'Brian from Arbroath and Graham from Ross County joining us.
  7. Lets wait and see what the favoured consortium has to offer before we judge them. But to add a bit of flavour to the debate I can tell you that they offer to increase the capacity of Firhill If ever needed .
  8. I'm a bit scared to come onto this thread as it has been a bit toxic by people with their own agendas, but here goes: I started going to Firhill not long after Hitler was bombing the chip shops in Knightswood. [some residents said that's the only good thing he ever done] Since then and up today, Thistles problem is that it always has been skint. Two of my friends signed for the Jags in 1959 and were told by Davie Meiklejohn work hard and I'll get you a move down south, I have to sell two players every season to just keep this club afloat. Not just to keep it going, to keep it from going bust. It is a very hard job running the Jags, you cannot just to rely on the crowds, you need sponsorship. advertising, hospitality plus others and it mostly has to come from Jags fans. So who ever takes over the Jags the will need deep pockets or even very deep pockets and good administrators at the helm, and for all of my time at Firhill, David Beatie is far and away the very best. Thistle will not survive for very long if we stay in the !st Division, Inverness have just posted a loss of nearly a million and that will happen to us if we do not have investment. We will have to wait and see what each consortium has to offer. Is Colin's offer just his shares or is their a few millions for capital? And what about the other group. Are they going to invest? I think we are in a different situation than Barnsley and Nice. Have they done their homework ? Can they build the support to make the investment worthwhile? Four good players on loan from Barnsley in January and we would walk this league, and be back in the money in the premier. Just reading that the club only gets just over 4 grand for Tv games on a Friday, the rest of the cash goes to the premier. So if we don't get promotion in the very near future we will be down with the Clyde and the Airdrie, and be run by someone who has a knicker stall down the barrows. The choice is yours!
  9. Archie's family were Ger supporters and believe or not, so were Derek Whyte's
  10. I think Bobby Houston should sit in a dark room
  11. Only lasted to half time and then gave up. I know all the new coaching manuals say play the ball out from the back. but you have to have the players to carry it out. Thistle need to get the ball into the opponents half as soon as possible, and then start playing football
  12. Clyde have refused permission for thistle to speak to Danny Lennon
  13. Due to the possible take-over, any manager in a job at this moment would not be interested in the vacancy unless Mr Beattie would confirm to them that the position would be safe after the take-over.
  14. Who the heck is Bell ?If anybody knows give us a ring!
  15. We have had far better teams than we have just now and they have lost at Arbroath. Terrible ground to go to and if Jags win then Caldwell must stay.
  16. I think we signed Joe Hogan as a number 9. I think there was a few Jags teams in that era, where most of the players played in positions different when the signed from the Jags. Who was the internationalist junior goalkeeper we signed and then ended up as our centre-half?
  17. After you take off the amount of money lost on Saturdays gate, we might manage an extra ballboy
  18. I am not sure if this question has been asked and has been answered, if so I apologise. Why did David Beatie and the other directors leave? And how was J Low and other directors appointed when they were not shareholders? Was this a deal of Colin's, when he cleared our debt and wanted his own crew in?
  19. Good to hear your scunnered maybe you could go away and don't come back
  20. After one game? Keep watching these teams over a season.
  21. Don't know anything about how take-overs work, but would guess that if a fee for the club has been agreed, then no money could be spent until the full take-over is concluded.
  22. Sometimes its best to play out from the back and sometimes it just better to lump the ball up the park. Today in the heat and a small park. we decided to play out from the back and with no space on the park it caused constant errors. I don't think its time to rubbish the team though as I would expect Alloa will cause other teams problems.
