  1. 3-5-2 saw us get results & we played well in it, we've messed about half playing 3-5-2, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 a lot recently. Get back to 3-5-2, we've got the players for it & definitely posed teams problems. Cerny Dumbuya Keown Barton Lindsay Booth Osman Welsh Edwards Doolan Azeez
  2. Not perhaps the window we were hoping for but if you look at it logically: We have a better back up goalie We have a better option at RB/LB in Dumbuya We have extra CB cover We've replaced McDaid who was never going to make it with a player who will at least be better than him 3rd striker back at the club Hopefully Fraser/Bannigan/Scully will make it back before the end of the season. Must still have some budget if a good free transfer came up, players will be released today who are surplus to requirements to allow them to sign outwith the window.
  3. Not a section of the forum I've ever looked at (& not on the forum as much as I used to be) but would love to get my hands on one. Could I put my name down if there are some no shows?
  4. Wouldn't underestimate the Highland League team, yes we're better than them in all departments but they do have some decent players who could probably still play at a higher level (presume there's decent investment for that level in attracting the ex pro's from the Highlands). We'll play a strong team regardless but would like to see Amoo, Azeez, Lawless, Dumbuya start & get some decent game time (& especially a decent performance from the 1st 3).
  5. For Rangers in the Championship, has to be. The comparison with us & St. Mirren is very valid. I presume Archie will leave someday, hopefully we are still in the Premiership at that point. A wrong appointment then could see us down in the lower leagues for years. Yes, we may go on from there but unless our fan base increases regularly we are no longer a 'sleeping giant' & will always be vulnerable should any combination of bad decisions be made (bad signings, change of manager, change of BoD).
  6. I would say a fee of around 500k would be realistic if going south. Loaned back til the end of the season & a sell on clause of 20% or so would be good business. It is quite unbelievable that he has not yet got a Scotland u-21 cap or even been called up to a squad. He's been a regular for us the last 2 seasons, one of our best players over that time but unknowns who are either on loan at lower league clubs or never made a 1st team appearance in their lives are continually picked. Bit of a joke & not a good reflection on the Scottish youth set up at all that a consistent & regular young performer in the top league in Scotland can't get a sniff of the youth squad.
  7. Once a year, perhaps around this time of year, it could be a good idea for the club to put some extra money into the prize. For example the prize tomorrow could be £1,000. Raises the profile of the half-time draw for that game, the club can publicise this on the website/social media all week & would hopefully increase the chance of people buying tickets on a more regular basis going forward. Plus with the bigger prize, more people would buy tickets for that game anyway so the money going to the club would be more than expected on a typical Saturday, in theory.
  8. As long as we have enough points come the split to not be involved in a relegation battle, I couldn't really care less where we get them from!
  9. Both terrible but B is more like a training top, has to be A of those 2. Would have been better offering the vote to season ticket holders/jagzone members, creates a slight incentive to be one of those & stops the vote being sabotaged (even though there's not much to sabotage as they're both pants).
  10. For those not going to the game you can usually find a live stream online pretty easily of decent quality (if you can handle incredibly biased commentary).
  11. I am actually pretty happy with our squad, I think it's the best squad we've had since we got back in to the Premier League. Yes the defence is an issue, I don't see us being able to swap Devine for someone else given he is on a 2yr deal so adding another CB will be important. We have a ready made replacement for Welsh in Bannigan, not sure when he will be back but if he's not going to be back by February another midfielder will be required. I actually think there is a good player in Welsh, he just doesn't show it often enough, if he played quicker he'd be fine but just turns in to a liability a lot of the time. I would hope this is something that could be coached but given he's had the same issues since he joined, it looks unlikely. Doubt there will be much budget left, shifting out McDaid & Wilson on loan plus some other of our youngsters may free up some wages. Another striker is needed, again I like Azeez but it does not look like he's going to score enough goals this season to take the pressure off Doolan. Could perhaps see Amoo leaving, when he's on form he's good, he's the type of player another club may take a punt on & that may be something we need to consider if trying to get someone else in. Hope he stays though, definitely got something to offer.
  12. Need to get Lawless back in the side to see if we can get some chances created. ...........................Cerny Gordon.....Barton.....Lindsay.....Booth .................Osman.....Edwards Amoo...............Erskine...........Lawless .........................Doolan I'd say this is our strongest starting XI, Bannigan & Dumbuya would come in if fit but this is our best XI on paper & should be given a chance.
  13. Not posted on the site as much in recent months as I have previously on here & on .net but still been a regular lurker. Was previously an Admin on here when the site 1st opened, happy to help out in any way I can.
  14. I don't believe there was under 2,000 Jags fans there yesterday. I know the JHS Stand looked full, the Main Stand had a decent amount of fans in it & the North Stand was a fair bit busier than normal. Something doesn't add up with our attendances, there are many games that the figure seems far lower than it actually appears. I don't think there's any funny business going on, probably just the turnstile ticker system isn't that accurate.
  15. Whenever we've played Celtic (or Rangers) at home, the 50/50 prize is always lower than normal despite having more than double the normal crowd. Do we try sell tickets to away fans at these matches? I know from a personal point of view, I have never seen a 50/50 seller in the Main Stand when I've been sitting there for games against the Old Firm.
  16. When I saw the team Archie had selected I thought he had got it wrong, I didn't see how the team he picked would be effective in a 3-5-2. Fair play to him though, he started pretty much 4-4-2 which is a formation I don't think we've ever really played under him. Archie has definitely shown a willingness to change formations for specific matches & also change it during a match if required, something he did not seem too keen on doing in previous seasons. I watched some of the game again when I got home & as they said on SKY, there was nothing between the sides. Rangers had more possession but this was largely in their own half, especially in the 1st half. Thought we played very well throughout & deserved at least a draw, hopefully this performance will be a turning point against the 'bigger' teams in the league. Too often we stand off & let them dictate the play (especially at the start of matches), this certainly did not happen yesterday & was good to see. Stuckmann was clearly at fault for the goal despite having an ok game until that point, hope Cerny is fit & available for our upcoming matches. Hopefully a turning point for Gordon who I thought probably had his best game in a Thistle shirt.
  17. Must be 3-5-2, Erskine in for Edwards & Doolan back upfront with Azeez.
  18. It's clear you get better players (for the most part) & better value from the lower leagues in England than you do in Scotland. Any half decent player in Scotland is outwith our budget usually as everyone knows about him. A good scouting network/group of contacts in England is likely to be more fruitful; see Osman, Barton, Amoo, Dumbuya, Edwards, Azeez. All players we had never heard of & I'm sure a good percentage of other Scottish managers were also not aware of. It has also been a ploy that has worked for other teams up here, Inverness kind of leading the way in the lower English leagues approach. Would also add that there is less of a reliance in the game to bring in overpaid crap foreigners, Hearts seem to be the exception who still look to bring in a fair number of foreigners but across the league I wouldn't be surprised if the number of UK based players in the Premiership squads was as high as it's ever been.
  19. We cannot lose to Dundee midweek, play well & there's no reason we can't get the win. Win at Dundee & a draw at St. Johnstone would be a decent week.
  20. After seeing the County goal again, Gordon's defending is shocking. He backs off & backs off, then opens up to actually provide an angle for the shot. Shocking defending, needs to have a real look at himself.
  21. Thought we played well, controlled most of the match but never really looked like scoring despite getting in to decent positions fairly regularly. 3-5-2 definitely worked & was a good idea from Archie, was clear the players were well drilled on their roles. I would stick with this formation, could be a bit short though if Lindsay is out, Gordon doesn't fill me with confidence at CB. Edwards had acres of space in the 1st half & Barton (my MOTM) found him very well. Just a pity it wasn't Erskine in that position who may have made better use of the ball going forward. We should have used our 3rd sub, it was clear some of the team were tiring & needed help closing County down near the end. Wilson coming on would not have done any harm. Doolan hasn't had a chance to take or miss but doesn't look his usual self outwith that. We also didn't make use of Azeez running in behind enough in the 1st half, whenever that ball was played he was on to it & the CB against him was on a booking...if something is working keep trying it! Positives: Scully (top save at the end), Elliott at RWB (ran all game, needs to improve final ball), Devine (best game in a Thistle shirt if a little more shaky in the 2nd half), Barton (composed, good passer, good in the air), Edwards (dynamic, positive, just lacks composure or perhaps the quality at vital moments), Azeez (caused problems in the 1st half, definitely has something if the right players are around him) Hope Lindsay isn't out for too long, would be a big miss.
  22. Amoo for Lawless, maybe Elliott for Gordon, rest the same. Would drop Devine but no-one to come in, Gordon at CB was an even bigger disaster away to Dundee United.
  23. Shows what a money grabbing rat he really is, if he had any respect for the football club he would have walked a long time ago. Given that he must have millions in the bank, it's strange that he seems to be so tight. Looking back, what a great decision it was from him to leave us.
