  1. Big leap of faith here but I'm trusting the BBC have got their facts right, especially the first few Q & A. http://www.bbc.co.uk...tball/17310468? If rangers do go into liquidation I can imagine the Arab, Well & St J forums overloading. I trust fan power from those three clubs will rule the day but my gut instinct says it won't. I wasn't aware that the Pars will be down regardless and a win tomorrow and we're still in the promotion race. .
  2. Undoubtedly far better than the status quo. Only nitpicking but that means you could still be playing seven teams each four times against the present nine teams four times. Repetitiveness is one of principal reasons most want change. And also maybe better a split Top 8/Bottom 6 incorporating some sort of play off/relegation decider involving lower division club(s)? As I say G SUS's idea is still much better than the present silly set up.
  3. Regretfully I've had to relax my basque policy as well.
  4. Almost certainly there'll be the usual what's in it for us mentality. Petrie, Milne, Yorkston etc are as ever not to be trusted. Likewise but to perhaps a lesser extent Geoff Brown (still pulling the strings) and Gilmour of the Midden is dodgy. It's just possible that what they want for selfish reasons will impact on us and the rest of the leagues in a positive way but that is more likely to be by accident rather intent.
  5. No. Has it anything to do about the 10 SPL clubs having this meeting without the ugly sisters invited?
  6. As I understand it by far the largest part of their debt is constituted by what you could call soft loans. It might well amount to £10-£11M. So if that ever got called in that would be them goners (their ground I'm fairly sure is leased back to them and thus they have few assets). I don't suppose they'll ever be in a position to redress that.. Altho' they're showing trading losses I'd imagine they're par (npi) for the course in the SPL. I have a wee bit more sympathy for them than Grant as they had to strengthen their squad to play in the SPL or really what's the point of getting promoted in the first place. The fact they couldn't spend enough is by most accounts the reason they're bottom. Another example of where larger leagues would help alleviate the need to spend so much dosh to survive in the top flight.
  7. If that were to happen PTFC should refuse to loan out any players to them.
  8. Mr Chiles (I believe his name is Chiles as in Voodoo Chile and not Childs as in Voodoo Child -Slight Return) is indeed a strange creature. I can't really see him having much of a TV career once he starts losing his boyish good looks.
  9. Where have you gone, Johnny Yorkston A nation turns its lonely eyes to you
  10. I don't think George Best was quite the player Messi is but there's undoubtedly numerous similarities. Both players taken out their homeland at an early age and struggled to settle. Both received specialist training as kids. GB was probably the best player in Europe at around 20yo, LM likewise. The differences would be that Best's scoring was an added bonus, whereas Messi's link play & teamwork is secondary to his goalscoring. That apart very similar players in size, balance and attitude (GB in his early twenties that is).
  11. Very pleased to hear that. All credit to the pair of you for helping get the problem be resolved. Many folk could just have walked away and be lost to the Jags forever.
  12. Just had a rethink and I'd play him from the start. Tough on Tommy Stewart tho'.
  13. Spot on. He may of course be working under the remit of just commercially maximising the current SPL and those pulling the strings like Milne & Petrie are the real short termists.
  14. Agree more of an impact player coming off the bench.
  15. I'd hope that would be the case but don't see it happening. One not so pleasant aspect of sticking Club 1690 into the third division would be the Gretna (and to lesser extent Livingston) syndrome. We know all too well from our experience, especially in the 2nd Div, of playing an entire season knowing from Day 1 who was going to win the league. Still I think most of us could put up with that for the sheer fun of seeing that lot suffer.
  16. As I see it the tail wags the dog and the majority of SFL clubs wouldn't want the top league expanded. That in turn would leave the bottom league larger. With no relegation from that league it would be even more tedious than it must be just now. Of the thirty SFL clubs I would imagine the vast majority of the traditional part time clubs are happier with the status quo. Most certainly those same clubs do not want to see any sort of pyramid system or merited promotion into the SFL.
  17. It's either that or Gilmour forewarning their fans that should a phoenix club arise that the Midden board will vote against their fans wishes.
  18. And the prize for not quite getting the gist of all this goes to Catherine McGrenera on Twitter: "Never mind accounts, I don't get Rangers' poor performance in games. Surely the better they play the more likely they r2b employed?"
  19. Two walnuts and 40 peanuts would be appropriate . I suppose Smith felt it would be wrong to suggest anything that might be acceptable to football fans whilst Henry I a youth player at Leeds, you know McLeish was strutting his stuff .
  20. Just a small point. Gordon Smith suggested that system before he was at the SFA. I don't recall Smith mentioning it after his appointment. In fact I don't remember anything of note about Smith's tenure at the SFA.
  21. Not used to not being at a Jags game and my blood pressure was rising just refreshing the live update page. That was bad enough but then sitting listening to that feckin' talking shop was just about too much. Agree that Pressley was the only one talking any sense.. Listening to Longmuir suggesting SPL/Div1 play offs when his own organisation is a closed shop makes me seethe.
  22. Agree, looks that way. I do tho' always bring the point up that the SFL don't help the situation. I've just this moment heard that clown Longmuir boasting about the SFL running three leagues of ten as if that's something to be proud of., .
  23. The OP asks a valid question and tho' I don't think we'll be drawn into a bottom of the table dog fight we definitely need to pick up a few points sooner rather than later. I say sooner because I don't feel we've the type of player that could handle the pressure at the bottom of the table. What I do know is we're lying fourth in the league and there's no way in a decent league system should a fourth placed club be fearing relegation with only ten games remaining. Larger leagues would help the likes of us if we were fourth with no promotion chance play youth or younger players at this time of the year. Either that or we could still be fighting for a promotional play off place. No way should a team fourth, fifth or sixth three quarters thru a season be worried about relegation. I really detest these stupid repetitive leagues.
  24. The way I figured it was that we wouldn't be paying for any more polis or at very least the cost of policing was getting substantially reduced. I'm assuming the absurd level of police presence was more to do with the new law. What could be slightly worrying, and I don't believe I'm being too cynical, is that the polis will report back that there were X amount of incidents on Saturday and would recommend a higher level of club invoiced policing in future. The fact that using the word incidents may be bordering on the fictitious could be inconsequential when it come to the polis getting a cosy wee earner. Incidentally it might be interesting to see if Falkiik receive similar policing attention on Saturday. At a corresponding fixture last season there were only 3 polis inside the ground and they were apparently only hanging around because of traffic duties after the match. Of course if police pick up intelligence about a potential mass outbreak of paper ripping it could be like Orgreave all over again.
  25. It doesn't come across on film nearly as poor but the pitch was in an atrocious state. It's really quite surprising there weren't more comedies of error throughout the match from both teams.
