Highest Ever Earning Jags Player
lady-isobel-barnett replied to chunky jag's topic in Main Jags forum
I heard Jackie had to pay the money back in instalments, which may explain why he stayed on at the Club so long after he hung up his boots. Charnley says in his book he was used to getting a £15K signing on fee at Firhill. Not that Chico would be our highest earner but signing on fees used to be significant. So if you include that Derek Whyte might well have been our top earner. -
I think that would be a big maybe. I'm sure the wage bill will be trimmed sufficiently to accommodate Balatoni but with the Warriors/Sangs double whammy I can't see Jackie getting the funds. I do tho' find Lindsay going out on loan slightly surprising. I assume he can't be recalled in an emergency and I think it's not that unlikely that one could occur. If Sinclair picks up an injury/suspension we're really not covered in left sided defence. Jamie Campbell covered at right back for Paton last season but I'm not aware of youngster other than Sinclair that could cover for left back. Given that Archie is no stranger to the treatment table we could end up with a very unbalanced defence. .

Assuming the Lindsay loan is binding it seems surprising he's away before the deadline. It might suggest that the interest in Sinclair has only resulted in offers (if any) well below valuation..

Great Interview With David Beattie
lady-isobel-barnett replied to Yellow & Redneck's topic in Main Jags forum
Sorry, but are we talking about the same thing here? Easyfundraising costs the purchaser absolutely nothing and each purchase donates money to the Jags.My small contribution goes via the Jags Trust as I've been signed up since day one. I'm not prepared to say how much I've raised only to say it's closer to three figures than single figures, which may be insignificant but I repeat I'm a person who buys little online. I can only suggest that the low figures you quote have more to do with a low uptake on the scheme rather than the triviality of easyfundraising. -

That is so totally wrong in so many ways I don't even where to start. All I can try and answer it with is on the lines of say you found a quid lying on the pavement and had a choice of giving it to the Jags or kicking it down the drain you're saying it would make little difference. The truth is that if every Jags fan buying items online put their purchases thru Easyfundraising then it would make a difference. All I've got to back that up is I know exactly how much an old bugger like me, who buys only a small amount online, has raised. Given at a guess 90% of all adult Jags fans spend more money than I 'm ever likely to spend on this new fangled internet I find you're dismissive attitude to something as painless as Easyfundraising let's say disappointing. I can't remember if it was Red Monkey or Fellow Traveller who first introduced us to this method of fundraising. It might have been someone else but whoever it was should be commended not ridiculed, -
We shouldn't always take rejection thru lack of dosh as gospel. I'm not meaning that players like Parker and Parkin couldn't have done a job for us but are those two any better than Tam McManus or Collin Samuel? Think what I'm saying is it's kinder to say we can't afford you because of budget as opposed to sorry, but you're not up to it at our level. There's a few that have escaped the net but generally I've got confidence in McNamara, as indeed I had in McCall, not to be swayed by the sign him he done it once mentality.

Jealousy - Yes, It's A Terrible Thing
lady-isobel-barnett replied to Dark Passenger's topic in Main Jags forum
One of the reasons Falkirk can play so many young players will be down to Farid El Allagui. His scoring has helped keep Falkirk high up the table and thus in enough of a comfort zone to play the youngsters without the fear of defeat factor. Most of us that argue for bigger leagues often cite one of the benefits being a better environment to play youth players. Fair dos to Falkirk. Gotta say I'm just as envious of them having Farid El Allagui.. -
Thanks for posting that. Makes more sense to me now.

Firstly excuse my ignorance on this online source. Wouldn't have posted except for the subject matter in the third paragraph, which if mentioned recently I've missed. http://www.footballeconomy.com/content/new-financial-worries-jags? Is this "sub board" high on the agenda or just some throwaway interpretation of a Beattie quote I've missed?

Favourite Run Of The Mill Games
lady-isobel-barnett replied to Tom Stronach's topic in Main Jags forum
That's a great shout. I actually came away from that defeat feeling more confident of having a very good season than I was before. It may be a trifle perverse but I really enjoyed a few results under Dick Campbell. Perhaps it was more that we'd be so piss poor in general just now and again everybody go fired up. The two draws at Firhill against Gretna probably held little significance points wise but to come back so late on from 0-3 down was something special. Same can also be said of the 2-2 game when we we two down after 73 seconds. -

Sorry, CJ, I was actually agreeing with you. Just forgot to say so. -
If I was a Hibs fan (what an awful thought) I wouldn't be too chuffed with Griffiths as he's only there on loan. I imagine his gestures will be coming over as condescending. It's him after all that's not deemed good enough and ready to play for the club he signed for. I can't really see the wisdom in gesticulating at the very folk who are effectively paying your wages but in most cases I assume it's a heat of the moment thingy and every fan wants players with playing with passion,

Managers You Hate Or Have Hated
lady-isobel-barnett replied to Jaggernaut's topic in Main Jags forum
Anyway the topic is about managers you hate. If folk were to list every manager that's ever made an arse of it we'd just about be in for the longest thread in recorded history. Btw as I recall it neither Whyte or Britton applied to be managers, they were just handed the reins. They then were re-employed after six or so weeks till the end of the season when they were once again re-employed in a lower division for the following season. Maybe I'm too using selective memory but I don't recall any opposition to them replacing Collins on an interim basis, little opposition to them seeing the season out and I firmly believe that most fans were in favour of seeing them get a crack at the 1st Division. Surely a true "hate" figure is someone that got up your goat from an early date rather than someone that in retrospect just turned out a poor manager, or co-manager as the case may be? -

......and Alec Totten, away from football, is a decent chappie -
I'll go along with that as well. I even got an "enjoy the rest of the game".
-
Also no guarantee that the Livinghell game will be on. Seems they never make any effort to get their pitch playable, so the slightest bit of frost or dusting of snow and it's game off.

That's a real pity as Michael is renowned in the area for serving a delicious choko of sake.

As I remember when a younger John Lambie played for St Johnstone in the early 70s he supplemented his wage packet turning out as a creditable second baseman for Cherrybank Cardinals. In fact had it not been for serious damage to a phalanx bone in his right hand (caused by accident in an impromptu arm wresting contest with Buck McGarry), Lambie might well have chucked football in favour of playing baseball in the Perth, Crieff and Blairgowrie Friday League. Thankfully he never did and the rest is history. -
So, can we put you down as a champion of the Sid for manager campaign, hj?
-
If that was the ball he got when Rowson broke thru in the second half I think it came off a Dundee boot slightly, just enough to wrong foot Naismith. Like others I'll give him time to settle but haven't seen too much to be confident about. Perhaps if he's played as an out and out left winger or up front in the role that Mssrs Grehan and Stewart have graced us with he could do the biz. Upfront he's got to be better in the air than either of those two.

Managers You Hate Or Have Hated
lady-isobel-barnett replied to Jaggernaut's topic in Main Jags forum
Derek Adams would be top of my current list. To be fair tho' most managers I've disliked at the time were probably just mouthing off from a point of insecurity or trying to boost the confidence of their own team. Nearly all of them ended up sacked and out of the game. Mark McGhee tho' has such an inflated ego he's almost impossible not to be included. Don't usually comment about current English football as I've only the occasional Match of the Day to go on but I'll make an exception for Neil Warnock who comes across as a total tosspot. -
Think I'm right in saying Stewart skied that ball with his poorer right foot. I'm a big critic of one footed players but on that occasion Stewart had so much time he should've used his better foot. I thought when he first played for us he might be a sensible type player if never a natural scorer. I could see the point in playing Stewart if he carried a threat in the air but without that I fail to see what he offers us most of the time.

I thought the fight in the team especially as the game progressed was impressive. Something that justifiably could be questioned lately in recent games. The match itself was obviously seriously spoilt by the weather but for once we seemed to play the conditions reasonably well. As a spectacle it was helped by a Dundee side who were actually looking for a win and won't be happy with a point. Most recent games with Accies, Q o S (twice) and Raith have been against teams that would have settled for a draw. Rowson was a worthwhile choice as MoM but I thought both Robertson and O'Donnell were very good today. Robertson was steady and seems to read the game fine when the ball is in front of him. I think he may be one of the worst central midfielders I've seen us play since the Brady/Jimmy Gibson days but in the back row he's steady if unspectacular. O'Donnell has his faults but for such a young lad he keeps his head up well and was unfortunate not to supply the match winning ball. As for the result probably correct. We didn't create that much but I won't be too critical given the conditions.
