  1. Despite my initial post, which was a wee bit disingenuous anyway, I'm sure Cowdenbeath will be one of the better away days. Central Park is certainly different, in fact very different, from some of the meccano type grounds we all too often visit and I'm reliably informed that most of the pubs aren't nearly as bad as that. Besides pubs, shops, train station & parking all handy for the ground unlike too many other Div 1 venues. Just got to remember that this is Dick Campbell territory and a certain Donald Findlay QC (I think I now know what QC stands for) is the club chairman. No truth in the rumour that they want to rename the town East Bridgeton.
  2. Now that's a cracking name.... Ricky van Wolfswinkel
  3. "The girls all have moustaches They’ve all got nasty rashes And nae c**t ever washes The Cowden Family"
  4. On the look out for suitable pre match hostelries for Saturday. Found this pub guide website with some interesting customer reviews. Here's a few reviews taken at random The Dunvegan Bar Partners Bar and and there's always The Glen describing itself as a "Family Run Free House Rangers Supporters Bar" I particularly liked this excerpt from a review albeit from a few years back
  5. Spot on Anyway it's just a pity we didn't take tuesday's game into extra time with the impetuous.
  6. Does quite a bit of punditry for BBC. Wouldn't surprise me if that's where he sees his future. Naturally we can sign him on a pay as u play deal. Potential Jags player/coach?
  7. I'm led to believe that the cost factor of further court action would have been too high. The one thing I take for compensation in a rather perverse way is that ICT remained in the SPL for five seasons. Every other SPL side suffered re cost of travel, overnight accommodation and lower away crowds. ICT's success was costly. I wonder if they knew that ICT were going to be in their super duper league that length of time if they'd have still been that keen on their inclusion?
  8. I'm surprised Malone hasn't got fixed up yet tho' more likely in a lower division. He's got good attitude and left sided players are nearly always in demand. He's probably only at squad player level for our division. Not a player we need.
  9. If I recall correctly IMcC was looking at/for a left sided full back/wingback to compete with Boyle. I suppose with Boyle playing better that's been shelved. As to another striker coming in on loan, I just can't see it. It's usual in threads like this to ask where's Tam McManus these days? So.... ...Where's Tam McManus these days?
  10. Melville this week, Lance last week. Something's afoot
  11. Are you really a Jags fan? You really don't know who J Tull is? J-Tull that's Jethro Tull. Now do you know who we're talking about? No? OK. The late Mr Tull was a celebrated agricultural engineer and close friend of Robert Reid. We might not have a team to watch if it wasn't for Mr Tull ploughing money into the Jags and handing over his shares. Do yourself a favour and get a copy of the Official History Book & read the chapter Living in the Past
  12. The best player last night just happened to be a left back. That player is officially transfer listed by his club.
  13. Tend to agree with just about all of that. We're not scoring thru a combination of an off form not fully fit(?) striker and also not creating enough chances. Apart from that our other faults are marginal and compare well enough with any opposition I've seen this season. Generally speaking I feel the team's playing OK with only the Morton game a real exception. Even at Raith I felt it was the lack of creating goalscoring opportunites that let us down as a team more than the daft mistakes.
  14. I still think there's a place in the team for Doolan playing out wide regardless of Buchanan. The problem with that is of course playing a system to accommodate, probably a 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1 but as we have no real dedicated wingers or wingbacks it might be worth a try. Worst problem for Doolan is he's being judged solely as a goal scorer, which ain't exactly giving him a high rating. I just feel the lad has a wee bit to offer with his athleticism & pace even as a nuisance factor. In other words if someone else was banging in the goals Doolan shouldn't necessarily be discounted from getting a start.
  15. Now that's what I call a rash statement
  16. That's where our version of 3-5-2 falls down as we don't have wingbacks just full backs moving into more attacking positions. Pity cos once Boyle does get forward his delivery is usually good. With no wide player getting to the bye line it puts too much pressure on the three midfielders to all perform. That happened v Dundee (when Flannigan, Rowson & Cairney all had excellent games) but didn't tonight or on Saturday.
  17. Thought it was crystal clear the point you were making .
  18. Not got the sack. Agree tho' that McPherson has an impressive CV but as posted earlier he'd be given less of a budget and less of a wage than McCall. Whether he'd want to risk the quality of his CV on us is a moot point. If he's desperate for a job (any job) then OK but I would imagine he's biding his time for something a bit more lucrative.
  19. If we're not going with three at the back I'd like to see Ross McG at least make the bench. McGeough can play right back and also come in as a centreback but I suppose McCall would opt for Kinniburgh before him . If a 3-5-2 I imagine Hodge would get preference as a sub just for left sided cover. We keep hearing about our squad being short of numbers but McGeough, MacBeth & Burns haven't been getting much of a look in. I realise that two are injured tonight but McGeough should be good enough for a sub spot at least.
  20. And here's me thinking quantitative easing was something to do with squeezing thru those wee narrow turnstiles at Cappielow.
  21. I wonder if you can be a clapper but not happy? I might put myself up for that gig.
  22. I would imagine 1JL would be right about Maxwell dropping out re fitness. Besides he was partially at fault on Saturday for the first goal. Weatherson lost him at the near post long enough to get a slight head flick and the goal followed in the confusion it caused. Bit of gamble starting Erskine, who was totally lost on Saturday besides I suspect McCall will revert to 3-5-2, which may negate the Kinniburgh threat if he's one of three centrebacks. McCall's hinting at resting/dropping Liam. Might just do it tonight as it would be rather ironic to leave him out against Cowdenbeath. Tbh don't see where we present a goal threat with or without Buchanan.
  23. This is so true. Somehow there seems to be a bit of confusion amongst some fans who appear to believe not adopting kick and rush is akin to not trying. On the other hand what really annoys me is that a handful of players are very guilty of passing to a fellow player who's in a worse position than themselves. Fine if you've got a Harkins or even a Stevie Murray with good close control to redeem the situation but in most cases it's just buck passing leading to giving away a throw in or worse loss of possession. Annoys me that! This is frustrating and I really can't figure out the logic. A lot maybe to do with our defenders and midfielders being uncomfortable on the ball, similar to the buck passing I mentioned above. Can't say I've noticed but I'd be surprised if Flannigan who's happy with the ball at his own feet is as guilty of the punt to midget policy as his other teammates .
