  1. Very good comment - made me laugh as did some of Pogba's performances. Suspect there is no brotherly love in the Pogba family!
  2. Checking our results from the start of the season, league and league Cup I hadn't realised that we had only lost 1 game (Queens Park)! So our results read: played 10, won 7, drawn 2, lost 1. GF 22 & GA 12. (counting Kilmarnock as a draw after 90 mins). A vert good level of consistency! Perhaps the only criticism is the GA column!
  3. Hope we can repeat this result or better on Saturday! So who do we want in the quarter final? Ourselves, Dundee and possibly ICT (if they can beat Motherwell tomorrow night) would be the only non-SPL Teams left in the competition. I would like to avoid both. I don't fancy a trip to Ross County. Looking at opponents we could draw, depending on tomorrow's results, for example, Hearts, Livingston Motherwell, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, Rangers and Celtic there are a number of winnable games there. Being purely selfish I would like Rangers at Ibrox! 30000 there tonight to watch QotS so good financially. If we are looking to win the competition then it's got to be a Home draw against Livingston, Motherwell, Dundee Utd or a Championship Team. Good result tonight and a big well done to all at Partick Thistle FC and the fans who managed to attend the game.
  4. Dundee in 5th place - looks good! Would expect a resurgence once they get acclimatised to the championship!
  5. Yeah, Turner should be on. At least IMC has kept Smith on the bench so far! Akinola needs a good game to match his pace.
  6. Agreed. The long pass can be a goal maker if played when appropriate and delivered accurately. For example, into space behind the opposing defence for Tiffoney or another wide/forward player to run onto. It is never appropriate when executed because the player in possession can't see a better option. If this is the case the manager should be berating the other players for not running into space to help out the player in possession. The only other occasion a long ball could be justified is when it's necessary to clear defensive lines if under severe pressure.
  7. I don't mind Muirhead returning to the back 4 to partner Holt. With McMillan and Milne at full back this looks solid. However I wouldn't let Smith anywhere near the first 11. I fail to see what he brings to the team and in my opinion he is, excepting the odd flash of good play, largely ineffective. I am a supporter of IMC but his favouring of Smith over Turner is poor judgement. Anyway to the Raith game. If we approach the game with the same attitude and purpose as the ICT game and play with the same directness and intensity we will win. As I said on the ICT game thread I eould like to see us work the ball better, cut out the long forward passes to players who are already marked and bring Sneddon back in goal. Oh and leave Smith on the bench.
  8. Agree with your comments. When I saw the team formation 3-5-1 my first thoughts were we are set up to deny ICT space in the middle of the park and to attack and defend (if necessary) on both flanks. This worked a treat even to the point of Tiffoney, when needed, doing a lot of defending to support Milne. The pace we now have in the team allows IMC the option of giving ground and possession in the middle of the park knowing that when we get the ball we can counter attack with pace. ICT got beyond our back line 3 times in the game and one of those occasions was a break of the ball. Around the 6 minute mark I really enjoyed watching Milne give Samuels a yard of a start overtake him and regain possession of the ball. I was surprised Samuels wasn't substituted as he got absolutely nothing out of Milne. However against better teams the long ball out of defence may cause us problems. But as you say we are getting better at working the ball and we did play some really good stuff at times. Just need to do more of this and fewer of the long stuff excepting of course a long one for our pacey players to run onto! Credit to IMC for recruitment, team selection and tactics. I am and remain an advocate of Turner in central midfield and I am unsure of Mitchell over Sneddon. Otherwise happy. IMCs next big challenge is to achieve consistency of performance. But new players bedding in and still early in the season.
  9. Sums things up as they stand very well. Having belatedly now watched the game a few observations. The first and fourth goals were simple but great and good examples of what can be done with good off the ball running, good and intelligent passing including the final delivery and good finishing. Whereas Graham's goal was laid on a plate for him he still had to get into the proper position to score. Dowds on the other had had a little more to do and he did it well. It was impressive the way we cut through the ICT defence while they struggled to get beyond our back line. I agree that Lawless played well and is looking like a very good signing. If he keeps this up a good dose of humble pie will be due from me. So many good players on the park on Friday and a well deserved win. My MOTM was Harry Milne. Still some old failings evident. Too many long balls out of defence coming straight back at us. We need to retain possession and 'work' the ball better! ICT were allowed too much possession in the second half and our midfield unit though not overrun has to do better. Not sure about Mitchell. Happy we have him but didn't think he is playing well enough to replace Sneddon who finished last season as our first choice keeper. We need consistency as our main priority and to know with some certainty which partick thistle team will turn up, especially away from home.
  10. A hard game coming up. ICTlook to be in good form with the recent thrashing of Cove. We seem to be back into the 'don't know what team will turn up mode. One thing I think is certain we will need to Score ateast twice to win as Samuels will score at least one for ICT.
  11. We are the champions by Queen. On second thoughts perhaps not appropriate - not a local band!
  12. A hard fought 2-0 win for the Jags whatever team and formation we play. If not the above a 5-0 romp, again, for the Jags.
  13. OK we can agree to differ on our opinion of IMC. All that remains to be said is "welcome to Partick Thistle Lee".
  14. DD I think you are misquoting IMC . He actually says Lee Hodson "was my number one target to add to the defensive ranks"! The meaning of the full quote is a lot different from simply "number one target". When you consider the signings of McMillan, Milne and Muirhead, Hodson was clearly not the number one target. I interpret IMC'S comments as LH was his number one target to provide cover for the defensive ranks. Hope this makes sense
  15. Partick Thistle FC promote the club as a family club which is part of the community. I think the club demonstrated these values, for example, during lockdown. I welcome and applauded this initiative and suggestions that we should , as an inclusive club, expand this initiative to include other languages that are prevalent in the community. Those on twitter who see this iniative as some sort of political conspiracy ought to get a touch of reality. I suppose the gentleman who said he has lost all sympathy for PTFC and will never watch another game will: - if in need of medical attention decline to use the ambulance service and make his own way to hospital, - decline police help when a squad car arrives at his door, - if on holiday in Ireland stop at the Galway border as the County is an Irish Gaelic Language protected area - not bother ever visiting the Western Isles or Wales. As far as coming to Firhill is concerned it would be good if he stayed away as he won't be missed and his values are clearly not compatible with those of a family, community and all inclusive club of which I for one am very proud to call myself a supporter!
  16. Slow build up and frequent across and back pasin will remain a feature of our play until we play Turner in Central midfield with Docherty and a strong ball winning holding miçdfielder. Bannigan should be played from the bench.
  17. There are a lot of competitive 'hard to call' looking fixtures today with most looking like they could go either way. This would be a good day to take 3 points as all of our (perceived to be) main rivals could drop points. I suppose given the size of the league there will be one or two such fixtures every week. A good performance and convincing win for the Jags would be a good statement of intent. Any news on our injured Central Defenders? Best of luck to the Jags and to all who are fortunate enough to be able to attend today's game.
  18. Notwithstanding the ladies, with virtually no preparation for the SWPL, did very well last season. I did feel the squad (watched highlights only) could have been fitter with some players carrying a bit to much weight. Similar to the men's squad which I think we all agree is better balanced and stronger than last year it looks to me that Brien Graham has achieved the same with the ladies squad. Albeit East Fife were well below the standard of our ladies , our players looked a lot fitter, showed very good technique and skill on what looked a firey playing surface and showed great awareness and composure. Goal number 6 was for me the pick of the bunch with a move involving 5 or 6 players, crisp and accurate passing and good running off the ball. I think the ladies can look forward to a very positive season. All the best.
  19. I wasn't at the game on Saturday for reasons already stated. However I was delighted with the result and especially taking 3 points from this back-stabbing club. I agree with all of the above re the balance of the side and particularly now having an attacking threat from both flanks. Also that Tiffoney should, if he can get into the team, benefit by being able to play with having less pressure on him as our only attacking threat. Early days yet but it is also looking like Lawless is turning into a VG signing. If this proves to be the case with consistently good performances on the field and good behaviour off the field I will be very happy to eat humble pie and change my view about resigning him. Regarding our prospects for the rest of the season I think we need to wait until the first half of the season has been completed and we have played all of the other teams home and away. By then we will have a good idea of our potential to win this league or reach the play-offs. We certainly have got off to a flyer but perhaps Dundee were a bit complacent and got off to a slow start. It wouldn't surprise me if this club felt they could 'walk' the championship and perhaps underestimated us. We may have just given them a wake-up call! Fact is with a depleted team we went to Dundee and took the 3 points so a big well done to the Manager and his staff, the players and especially to all the travelling fans (apparently in big numbers) who gave the team such great support. I hope to get to Firhill next week for the Hamilton game.
  20. I think there will be some history here but don't know if it will be evident in the stadium. As far as I am concerned there is no problem with Dundee as a football team or with their fans but I do have a problem with Nelms their CEO. He was the one who changed the Dundee vote and in so doing failed to honour the agreement with ICT and us. So as long as Nelms, the man's who would be king and ended up as the court jester, is Dundee's CEO I will not be attending any games at Dens Park . I would like to think I am not the only one who feels like this!
  21. Tiffoney, Akinola and Muirhead injured or ill and the League hasn't even started yet! Is this starting to sound familiar?
  22. Almost a week since we signed anyone. What are we still looking for? A 4th striker, advanced midfielder .....??
  23. I think IMC knows full well what Turner can do through the middle and that this is his strongest position. I have been advocating, with many others on WAT that he should be played in that position/role. However I also think IMC values what he gets from the Docherty-Bannigan partnership. It seems to me that IMC is being very loyal to Bannigan whom I think should be moved to the bench as the back up player in preference to a Docherty-Turner partnership in central midfield. Good performance last night and as much as I hate to admit it I thought after looking again at the disallowed goals that the assistant ref and Walsh, whom I think is one of our poorer refs, got it right! 5 vg penalties as well - really thumped them into the net. Why the players' reaction to Hemmings? Was he sledging or do we just not like him?
  24. Am I missing something. BBC showing Group B table as Killie top as follows: Killmzrnock played 2 points 4 Partick Thistle played 2 points 4 I thought we got an extra point for winning the penalty shoot out so should we not be sitting on 5 points and top of the group?
