  1. i think the best 3 players at the club are all centre backs, if we do go back 4, then i think macbeth will be sacrificial lamb into midfield. Which i dont agree with, for me, since he signed hes been best player at the club (thats still here)
  2. Yes and looks like just a wee bit too stocky to be cammy
  3. Yeh thats horrendous, best wishes to him, what a shame on his honeymoon and just before getting properly started with thistle, no doubt a difficult and lengthy rehab in front of him
  4. It’s depressingly predictable that the top 2 will run away again at the top. The last time a relegated team did not win promotion, if im not wrong, was us? since then, dundee (twice), dundee utd, killie, livingston, have all been relegated, and got promoted first time of asking (livi obvs thru play offs). this is a real problem, no-one in media seems even remotely aware of. Falkirk this year being a promoted team and winning the league kinda messes my argument up, but the point still stands that the teams coming down are too strong. And its going to repeat this year we all seem sure on that…
  5. 1. Ross County 2. St Johnstone 3. Ayr United 4. Raith Rovers 5. Dunfermline 6. Morton 7. Arbroath 8. Thistle 9. Airdrie 10. Queens Park
  6. That remaining squad is frighteningly thin, a lot of players with major form or injury problems, without quality additions thats a squad thats fighting to survive in this league, particularly when u consider graham unlikely to be there. We need 2 keepers, 3 or 4 full backs, - 1 of which can cover at cb. 2-3 midfielders, despite some improved performances in the play offs i am still a long way off thinking crawford and stanway are anywhere near good enough. and given graham and or chalmers maybe away, Mackays injury ,lawless looked done last year, we need maybe 2-3 forwards/wingers. i hope barraclough put a magic wand on his wedding list!
  7. Spoke well and wish him all the best im at work so missed bits of it, was his assistant/background team mentioned? would also have liked chairman or sd to have put an interview out as well and not let wilson be the face of this. Club have clearly been left with egg on their face, have someone come out and own it at least.
  8. I thought we’d win the league at start of the season. Years in the play offs, turner back who was brilliant last time with us (imo), signing dan mackay, ashcroft, megwa after his promising season with airdri, i thought livi would be decent, and i was sure falkirk would be in play offs, but i didnt think we’d be as limp as we were all season. we scored 3+ goals twice all season, the lowest in the league for this metric. If i was to guess we had a budget that was top 2 in the league, which suggests a title challenge bare minimum. We were never ever in contention, from that first 0-0 draw at home to morton 1st day of season we looked broken, i think the budget was wasted. But maybe i was wrong and too optimistic (which would be unusual for me!)
  9. What a fantastic performance - i didnt see it coming. No failures- it was brilliant. amazing from BBG, true jags legend - if you can’t see that, i can’t help you. Never thought we’d see someone else hit 100 goals after doolan, and here we are ten years later and its happened again. cabt compare the 2, as mentioned above, a lot of dools goals came in permier league, often playing up front himself. But he played with much better players that graham has, and also took way longer to do it, what a great but pointless debate to have, they are both legends and im so happy i got to see both their careers
  10. I thought 2 was paul paton, and if i was to guess at the tiny bit of head we can see behind them - i’d go rowser
  11. Tom smith for us, neil mccann for the dee
  12. I don’t think Lennon wd be interested in thistle job, seems to have a cushy number in the media. however, just to play devils advocate - whats the big objection to him? I know he can be a divisive character, but felt that was more in his playing career. Always speaks well in media now? Won multiple major trophies in his playing and managerial career, including winning this league, granted with a hibs team that was probably heavy favourite at the time. If he were interested, surely he’d need to be considered with a cv like his? not saying i want it, just surprised at how quick its a no from some of you with his trophy haul
  13. Gary Naysmith? Done well with Stenny, won league last year and has them competing near top of league 1 in their first season up. Good playing career also. Just an idea! He ticks all the same boxes Gary Caldwell did, so i do realise a successful international playing career with previous managerial promotion doesn't guarantee you'll be a good Jags manager! Feel for Dools, an all time great of our club, but the right decision. I felt very early on this season it was broken, I'd have been happy with a change in September/October, it looked stale and I just didn't have the faith he would fix it. Huge underperformance this season, despite what the league table says, I wish him all the best for the future.
  14. He was a cracking player, feel thats what we’re missing the now, goal scoring midfielder, that team mid 90’s had loads of them it felt like, McWilliams, Andy Lyons, Albert Craig, Ian Cameron, Alec Taylor, Chico, even big David Moss i remember him being good for a goal.
  15. This is a huge irritation of mine, that and our performance in the cups. every club takes points off the old firm at some point, apart from us. I seen us beat celtic a few times in the 90’s when celtic werent so good, and we last beat rangers in the 90’s - the 3-0 game (i wasnt at this!). But since then there must be dozens of games we have played with maybe a draw or 2 against each to show for it. and the cups- dont get me started. In my 32 years going to the games. Every premier league club has been to at least 1 cup final in that time, most of them winning a trophy in that window. Then in lower leagues you have livi who have won a trophy, falkirk been to 3 scottish cup finals, raith won league cup, dunfermline been to cup finals, ayr and airdrie been to a cup final, queen of the south and gretna too! in that time, we’ve been to 1 semi. (Im not including our challenge cup record, which is just about equally as bad!)
  16. I’m not sure about this - it looked like linesman flagged for offside? But it was a confusing passage of play im not 100% what was goin on!
  17. Much needed win, but in the context of how bad a start to the season it’s been, a worrying performance. started well, looked a bit livelier, all youz that dont want bannigan in the team, not sure how you can arrive at that conclusion, keeps it moving, pivot point for everything good we do, and covers every blade of grass. but lost a bit of oomph when the 2nd goal didnt come, and feared the worst when they equalised. I didn't think it was a red card, definitely a yellow, but from my view red was too harsh. Still huffed and puffed and struggled. this squad is a promotion calibre squad and we look like mid table also rans. I dont see that changing unfortunately and 4th based on current performances seems hard to imagine for me.
  18. Same message i posted last week. That was god awful. I love Dools, but he should be let go.
  19. Poor game, first half we were the better team, with the milne volley from the corner being the best effort at goal, thought fitz had a good first half and i fancied us to go on and win it 2nd half. But we didnt show up 2nd half and if it wasnt for that great clearance from Ashcroft, we would have lost it and couldn't have had any complaints. I love Kris Doolan, i really do. But this isnt working, and i dont see it changing. 6 goals scored in 8 games, is pathetic. The fact we’ve had 4 games at firhill, without conceding, and yet remain double digit points off the top of the league, shows where the problem is, we have title winning defensive numbers, but relegation form at the other end of the pitch, where it seems like unless fitzy wants to go on a run beating 3 men, we have very little that threatens teams.
  20. Thats great - i hope we win more for you than cos we need the 3 pts! somerset is my favourite away venue- hope u enjoy
  21. Thought we deserved to win, but 3-0 flattered us. Qp were poor however. Bannigan ran the show, i will fight with anyone until end of time that we are so much better when hes in team. Keeps the ball, breaks up play, we just looked so solid in the middle. Harry milne did well, i liked Lyon although i agree with the above that he’s raw. But is positive with the ball, shoots a lot, carries ball well and composed in possession. How Stanway has conned a game out of doolan all this time and this boy barely had a sniff i’ll never know. great goal for mackenzie, i like him a lot too id like to see him and lyon get a run. new right back- no thanks from me. But doesnt help when he’s got chalmers in front of him who again was poor. pleased with first win and another clean sheet, but still waiting on us “clicking “ like i thought we would.
  22. That guy from last year wes mcdonald
  23. Saw a couple of times it mentioned we need cover for milne. We are stacked at centre half, i thinn dan o’reilly could easily play at left back, maybe not to the same level as milne, but with o’reilly, and banzo who played there in his younger days, I’d rather we didnt spend any more money on left back as we can move things around and still put a decent team out?
  24. 3-2 definitely flattered Montrose, 3/4-0 would have been a more realistic reflection of the balance of play. nice to sed Turner back but i dont like him in the ten, he’s better coming onto a game, picking ball up off centre half and driving us over the half way line starting moves, I’d rather see robinson behind graham. thought milne and fitzy were good, dan o’reilly was my motm, used the ball really well, solid as a rock, quick into challenges, he must start every week. i worry about a few things, the 3 signings we clearly need - competitoon for graham, right back, and competition for mitch, but i know we’ll sort that. we have too many centre halves and i worry dools gets decision paralysis about which ones to play. Dont know if i agree with moving macbeth out of centre back either, he was best player latter half of last season at centre back. liked look of chalmers, particularly first half, definitely has a touch of the stevie lawless about him. stanway, i’ll be polite and say i dont see it, at all. get a few signings in, keep everyone fit, and i do believe we’ll be in amongst it to win the league this year.
  25. Agree with most of what's been said The positives - another clean sheet. Cut them open a few times and Graham and Robinson both missed sitters. I haven't managed along to many games this year, was my first look at McBeth apart from a sub appearance at Cappielow months ago, like of the look of him. First I've seen O'Reily too and I thought he looked decent in his cameo. Negatives - yeh just overall, end of season waste of time feel to it. Thought Neilson struggled in midfield - too upright & stiff a runner for a midfield, too slow on the turn, be hard to change the shape/personell after so many clean sheets but can't help thinking McBeth in the middle instead of him and O'Reilly next to Aero would be better? But with so many clean sheets, maybe changing it would be stupid. Yeh an off day for Fitzy, but u have to give him then, cos you know when the lights are on in the play offs, he'll produce moments. I've been going to Thistle since 1992, i cant think of a more two footed player we've had in that time than Fitzy. Agree about the ref - thougth he was excellent, game flowed, wasn't too whistle happy. Was a really easy game to ref to be fair, but he's best ref I've seen in a long time.
