  1. I think it was time for Slater to go. If he’s not getting game time and he wants to play then hats off to him for leaving. These guys have mortgages, rent and other bills like the rest of us. So some will dig in and I don’t blame them, purely for finance. I don’t imagine they’d be making any more than a tradesman, so won’t have a big hoard of savings. The likes of McGinty might have to grin and bare it.
  2. There are lies, damn lies and stats. No problem with Banzo but take away his pens and I’m sure his goal scoring record and assists must be similar to Slater.
  3. AJ was saying this to eljaggo Semi. I never made a comment to AJ sorry
  4. I honestly think even the manager would admit he never really gave Slater a chance to impress since he came in. Out for 6/7 months and needing a run of games, don’t think he was given the time to impress. There’s guys in the team who have had umpteen poor performances but have still kept their place. This is our managers prerogative. That’s why football is so polarising,it’s just opinions,Golf, running, tennis etc ability is black and white, good score or good time it’s easier to see if someone has done well or poorly.
  5. Heard the manager offered Banzo and O’Ware a new deal in his first days back to the club. So he obviously rates them very highly. Just got to trust he knows what he’s doing. Hopefully he’ll turn it around soon. Sorry to see Slater go nice boy good player
  6. I don’t know if the manager is telling Miller to come deep, because Miller keeps doing it. He can finish so I’d like him to stay up more. Yesterday he wasn’t at his best. I thought Slater done ok,put in a few decent crosses and closed down the Alloa left back well. The boy had been out for 7/8 months and to me played like a CM being asked to play wide. Banzo has now started playing decent and the manager has total belief in him,Cole is playing well, so it’s going to be difficult for Slater to get in the middle.
  7. Agreed. Kenny Miller’s work rate and finish was good as well
  8. Slater only returned to training last week after months out so I think his substitution would have been pre planned
  9. Agree with your comments on Banzo. I think he misses Slater who is always available for a pass and helps share the workload in midfield. Is Slater back training after his op ? Caldwell said his ankle wound had an infection.
  10. Good you’re reassured. Not sure who has over rated Slater, the boy is a decent player at this level as is Banzo. Jury still out on Gordon I think. We don’t set up to have box to box midfielders. These guys obey the managers command or they’re out of the team. Agree, think Tidser would be a good addition but we obviously couldn’t tempt him away from Falkirk,if indeed we were in for him in the first place.
  11. I think part of what you’re saying comes from the fact the team as a whole could have been more on the front foot. It wasn’t till nearer the end of the season we had a CM coming slightly deeper and the opposition Striker not sure who to close when big McGinty decided to step forward with the ball and pass rather than the big hoof. Just good to see our defenders push on rather than be scared and sit deep. Hopefully this was the manager who informed our centre halves they can sometimes step in and help the midfield. Especially when we have 3 guys marking one striker
  12. I think it was Ally Roy who told me haha. Can’t betray a confidence, but as I played in midfield myself I feel midfielders get the blame from some fans for lack of goals or for a team losing goals. I just think this season when we got a slightly better striker, we got more goals, and when we got slightly better defenders we conceded less. Maybe I’m looking at it too simply. I’m sure there will be others who will be more informed and will tell me it’s more complicated than that and I bow to their superior knowledge. Stats aren’t everything but sometimes fans perception is different from reality.
  13. No harm to Shea he came in and scored a couple of goals but others than that I thought he seemed anonymous. He was coming back from injury though. Honestly don’t think there was many times last season we were dominated in midfield. Going on stats Slater ran further than anyone with Christie not far behind and Banzo and Spits not too far behind him. (Running isn’t Harkins game)So yeah might lack a little bit of pace but don’t think stamina was a problem for the midfield. I thought our midfield was decent but when we never scored goals it was the midfield who didn’t supply the ammunition. When we lost goals it was the midfield didn’t protect the back four. A lose lose situation for our midfielders. When we brought in a decent striker we scored goals, when we brought in a couple of decent defenders we didn’t concede as many goals. Chuffed for Edwards always liked him just sorry they didn’t win(although can’t stand Levein).
  14. Think the manager will play 5 or 6 at the back. Hopefully it’ll work but doubt he’ll be positive to start. Cmon Thistle !!!
  15. Disappointed with the result. I was at the game on Saturday, but got a chance to look at the game again on Jagzone(pish by the way). I think on reflection,we as the away team took the game to them and just deserved to win the game. We lost 2 players from our starting 11,and felt we coped pretty well against an in form team on an artificial surface and poor conditions. Some guys on here slaughtering Bannigan and Slater but not sure what some people expect these guys to do. Between them I think they gave the ball away maybe two/three times, made themselves available for almost every pass and made quite a few interceptions. They then tried to support the front men if possible. We should have won, but now that chance has gone, let’s hope we can do it on Friday night and the coming weeks. Ps just came back from the bar earlier and listened to one of our fans there. Wee guy holding court saying what he would/wouldn’t have done on Saturday. I thought wow,we never make a mistake in an armchair !!! Jokingly I said to one of the bar staff “He must’ve been some player”. He laughed and said I know him,he never got into our school team !!! This guy is probably one of the keyboard warriors beating up on our own players. I’m thinking to myself these guys are confusing guys in the English Premiership or La Liga (Fantasy Football)on £50Grand a week with Thistle players who play in the Scottish Championship for £500/600 a week. Anyway enough of my rant Cmon the Jags !!!!!!!!!!
  16. Very good post firhillista. This was exactly our view of the game yesterday. Also as an aside,it was as if the ref was goading some fans when he gave the penalty, they tell players not to react !
  17. True haha,but I do like a happy drunk
  18. Very good read, enjoyed his positive take on his whole experience. Sometimes people all too ready to be negative.....
  19. Think Slater is 23/24. Played at least 3 years as a first team player in the Premiership with Killie. Think he’s been one of our better players and think he proved himself at a higher level.
  20. Honestly guys people think that Ferguson,Preston,Chick Young etc are fully qualified to comment accurately on a game, but I’m shocked sometimes by their level of ignorance ie knowing players names etc. The other night a Thistle fan said “Christie Elliott shouldn’t be captain anymore” on a phone in,and they proceeded to have a discussion about it!!! Even though Bannigan had been captain for a couple of weeks(Haha)We shouldn’t be judging a game by what these guys say. We give them too much credit, nice guys maybe, fully informed I don’t think so. Any other time a draw away from home on an artificial surface against Falkirk we’d take it. So I’m taking the positives from it. Stopping the run of defeats and a midfielder scoring. Cmon Thistle !!!!
  21. Haha something to lighten the mood on here. Well done boys. We really need it !!!
  22. No matter how it gets there, set pieces, crosses, a dribble, whenever the ball is in our box I feel a goal is coming for our opponents . We fail to be first to the ball most times or to pick up second balls in there. There doesn’t seem to be much communication between keeper and centre halves, and centre halves and full backs. Would hope GC is drilling these guys day on day, although it’s not looking like it just now,I hope it can come good soon. I was surprised at the half time changes, which in hindsight was obviously a big mistake. I don’t have a problem with a new manager trying new things, but I hope he’s learning quickly what this squads strengths and weaknesses are and what’s required in January. Gutted on Saturday obviously, but always thought after Archie went it’d take time to build a new side, and that it’d get worse before it hopefully gets better.
  23. I’d like to see us start Coulibaly as I think he’s more likely to create a chance for himself to score, more than Doolan or Quitongo will. Would like to see Slater and Bannigan ahead of a real Def Mid because our defence needs every bit of help it can get. Thought defensively Slater and Bannigan worked so hard, cutting out any space for through balls to their strikers etc but at a cost going forward. Seen the manager telling the sitter to sit(surprise)and not cross the halfway line at times. Thought it was heading for a 0-0 but a set piece killed us again. Ps just a pet hate of mine but would love McGinty to kick the ball up the park a bit more instead of out when sometimes there seems to be time to keep it in play
  24. Forgot to mention Fitzpatrick came in and I thought he acquitted himself well. Even just his energy and movement would help when our midfield are looking for options/runs being made, and he can finish.
