Winter of '63
Interesting: Donnie McKinnon was an almost ever-present at No. 5 when the Jags stormed through the old 1st Division in 1970-71. Then he hung up his boots (?), and didn't play at all the following season, except for one League Cup match vs. Raith Rovers. But he featured again in a handful of matches in 1972-73, including that Portsmouth friendly, and the away match against Honved. Also, Jackie Campbell almost didn't play at all during the 1970-71 season, though he had already been at Firhill for donkeys years. I seem to remember he had some kind of dispute with the club, and didn't play for a while, but not sure if it was that season. From memory, Jackie Campbell had an injury which kept him out for most of the Promotion Season of 1969/70 though he may have played two or three games at Left Back. He was then converted to a centre half early in Season 71/72 - I think he may only have played about ten times in that position by the time of the League Cup Final in October. The next season he had a contractual dispute with the club and didn't play all season. In those pre-Bosman days, the player was tied to the club - it is strange to think that a genuine Club Legend would have undoubtedly moved to another club at that time if he had been able to do so. When Jackie was asked about staying with Thistle throughout his career, he said he was in the category of player who was not good enough to be transferred but too good to be freed.

Jaggernaut
Think it's Frank Welsh, any idea of the date ? (Jim Stewart never played for them at Firhill very much) It's April 25, 1981: 1-1 (9,000). The only time Higgins, Welsh and O'Hara played against them, and they had Stewart in goal. Oh, and we finished 6th (of 10) that season....!

Jag
No prizes for the player, a freddo for the opposition or venue I remember we put out a relatively strong team in a friendly at Staney Brig in Milngavie. Can remember if Milngavie Wanderers were the opposition or not. Seem to recall it being around that time with the likes of Declan Roche and Alan Grainger playing. Probably way off the mark though!!
