delthejag
There is maybe an argument for investing extra funds in specialist coaching for our strikers, rather than in new strikers. Couldnt agree more Edited April 11, 2017 by delthejag
Jaggernaut
Not that it's probably needed but here's the players still in contract for next season: Cerny (2018) Scully (2018) Dumbuya (2018) Devine (2018) Booth (2018) Lindsay (2019) Penrice (2018) Osman (2018) Bannigan (2018) Barton (2019) Erskine (2019) Lawless (2018) Edwards (2018) Doolan (2019) Nisbet (2018) Azeez (2018) I'd imagine Elliot and Welsh are likely to re-sign but even without them that looks like a decent basis for a squad. Only slight worry is Lindsay seems likely to go which means bringing in a new centre back. Looking at the above, since Amoo will very likely leave there is room for another winger/attacking midfielder, one preferably with goals in him, in the attacking midfield. That looks pretty good. It would be nice to see some of those "2018"s change to "2019"s.
ian_mac
I think it's inevitable Liam will leave this summer. Normally I would agree that another year at this level can do no harm. But his performances have been so good that it's clear for all to see that he's ready to step up a level or 2. We should just be thankful that for once we will get some money for a player instead of losing them for nothing.

Yes it's good that the club has now progressed to the point where we can get young players on longer contracts meaning we can get something if they decide to leave. As Jaggernaut said, it would be good if some of these 2018 contracts could be extended to 2019 or even 2020. With top six we are now in a position to make that offer and have a realistic chance of some players accepting. I'd especially like the young players we think are really going to make it, like Penrice, Nesbit, McCarthy, being offered longer deals. No point bringing them on if they go for nothing (or a few K development fee).
The Earl of Hathaway
Regarding the current players on contracts, it'll be interesting to see what (if any) effect the new training facility has on contract negotiations. For players in their early/mid 20s with us, the prospect of a decent contract plus specialised facilities could be enough to sway them into staying. That provides us with season to season continuity that is invaluable. Considering the age Kenny Miller is, it would be nice to think that the new facilities could be used to prolong and enhance the careers of Cerny, Erskine and Dools....
douglas clark
The Earl of Hathaway, I think the general direction the club appears to be taking is brilliant. This is an astonishing period in the history of PTFC. We, you and I, were around when we nearly went bust. The work that has been done behind the scenes in turning us into something good has been nothing short of amazing. I also think that the way the club has treated - long term - injured players, has been nothing short of magnificent. If you were out there, on a free, you'd have to consider PTFC simply on the basis that they would look after you? We appear to do that. I think we are the future.
