Agreed on Dallas who was certainly ill advised to forward such an email from work ... not agreed on McDonald though as referees lie and cobble stories together asll the time so get over it - but equally a church that hides dress wearing peados, has an ex nazi brownshirt at the helm, has dwindling attendances of its' own, a crumbling infrastructure and is becoming less relevant by the day should never have been allowed to comment on a sport and internal SFA disciplinary mechanisms.

Just a small correction needed.

The present pope was never a brownshirt. He was in the Luftwaffe and at the end of the war served in an anti-aircraft gun crew. We do not know if he helped shoot down any of the Royal Air force terrorfliegen as they bombed Berlin. We do, however, know that his conscience got the better of him and he deserted his post on 30th April 1945.

 

30th April 1945 was the day Hitler committed suicide.

 

Before anyone accuses me of bias against the present Holy Father, may I point out my heartfelt appreciation of Benedictus XVI: that's the delicious dry pilsner, brewed in Munich and named after the local boy who made good in Rome.

I can't quite see the point of your little growly face. Dallas' position was becoming more untenable by the day. This e-mail, or at least the image that appeared in it, was fairly wide spread though. I'm at least a little curious why it was Hugh Dallas, and of course he shouldn't have sent it from a work e-mail account*, that has been targeted over it and not everyone who circulated it.

Dallas just goes to prove the Referees and scottish football are anti celtic. I'm sayin that and i hate them. Theres too many decisions go against celtic like that fat b farry delaying cadetes signing then that goal that was about a mile onside he scored against rangers. Then the refs lying at the dundee utd game. Hundreds of decisions seem to go against Celtic and i honestly think rangers do get favouritism. What about lefferties tackle/assault in the old firm game about ayr ago? And rod Macdonald getting booked for blessing himself? I'm not even a catholic and i find that repulsive. And they even have the audacity to go on strike and go 'aww poor me' when they get it in the neckwhen it was them who dug their own grave by being corrupt, lying and incompetant. They created the storm. If they had just been honest and done their jobs none of this would have happened

What I find ironic is the catholic church, through out the disgusting scandals in Ireland, the catholic church were preaching forgiveness and tolerance. Yet in the case of Hugh Dallas they wanted retribution and punishment. They are just hypocrites

Now, Celtic were entitled to complain - as members of the SFA and the SPL and so on ... I think they were way over the top in their complaints but they were entititled to complain as they felt they were hard done by by people within the same body (or hired by them, i.e. the refs).

 

The Catholic Church on the other hand should be keeping out of this. Especially as Reid had already raised the bigotry card. Dallas was stupid, but jokes about the Catholiic Church and Pedophilia have been going round the whole country - the way jokes about any big news event (including sick jokes about disasters) go round all the time. There's no evidence there was any bigotry involved in it. Considering that that story still is fresh in folks minds they'd have been better to keep quiet about it.

 

Of course there still is bigotry in this country and it goes in all directions, not just anti catholic, but this is not the situation where they should be sticking their oar in. Celtic are using the various referees' stupidity to stick one on the refs (a wee bit of payback in their own biased view) and to put doubt in refs mind in future next time there's a key decision to be made in a game. The church should NOT be getting involved in that. If they feel there's something they need to say about bigotry they should wait until a more appropriate time.

I think the poster would have to expound on an alternative (eg his own religious views) to be considered a bigot. True, he's listed only negatives but that doesn't mean he wouldn't list negatives about other religions if relevant.

Truth be told - 'bigotry' is an easy card to play by the jokers in the pack ... criticise the catholic church/celtic/ireland (or the orange order/rangers/protestants) and you're castigated a bigot - in the same way anyone who dares to criticise Israel is branded anti-semetic ... it's easy to throw a two-bob word without actually discussing the point

Yes, thank you for the clarification, so I take it we can agree it is ok for the Catholic Church to have their say in this as it directly affected them, it is only their timing that concerns you.

 

Totally agree that being rude about the pope is not necessarily bigotry, it is however still rude.

 

While as you say there is a lot to be rude about, there is also a lot to congratulate the church on, probably more in fact. And when the rudeness of portraying only one polar opinion displays such a derogatory and biased view, surely that is the description of bigotry?

It might just be my age (been round the block a few times) but all this po faced declaring by people that they are deeply insulted and offended at the Dallas email. What was it about the Hokey Cokey again? Mr Reid the so called political attack dog, offended! Aye right). Jeezo it was an email! doing the rounds showing a satirical school sign. Something that Have I got News For You might use. Well maybe not.

 

Catholics, and others, should get a grip and cut out all this feigning of pious indignation. We get enough of that stuff from the Moslems. There are a lot more other things the church should be concerned about. You can say that again. But there is nothing like a nice diversion. Unless of course that church is so closely linked to a football club, which in itself is a bit dubious, then I suppose the email is an ideal club the beat a referee over the head with.
