Outrageous Comment At Poty Dance

Used to go on the Summerston bus. On one trip to Dumfries which was leaving the Ram's Head at about 10 o'clock, I got on the bus with 2 two litre bottles of Irn Bru.

They were finished by the time we got to Dumfries. The bottle of whisky "hidden" in them meant I was already fleeing by the time we hit the social club at Queen's. To give an idea of when this was, Gordon Dalziel was with us at the time and not playing and I remember he was in the bar before the game as well. (That may be the only thing I remember from being in the bar!!)

Can't say I recall much of the game - woke up as the bus hit the M8/M74 intersection and asked what the score was. It was 0-0 so didn't miss much.

I also stole the last pie in the stall from Jags365's old man that day. And was nearly arrested for overexuberant vocal interaction with the game.

How strict are the buses with bevy, do any of them turn a semi-blind eye as long as you aren't lugging crates of ale on board?

Judging by the way the passengers burst into a pub when they arrive Id guess the buses are not too bevy friendly. Even if they were, uber, I don't think anyone would put it on print on here.

Suspect it's also the driver's license that would be on the line if drink was consumed on the bus as well.

Anyway, would you want someone who's capable of turning a blind eye driving your bus?

Think supporters buses died a death a long time ago anyway..I used to get on the Milngavie bus back in 1991-1996 and it was a riot...i was only 13-18..but happy happy times..had my first bottle of md 20/20 on route to the infamous game in montrose :D

Used to get on the bus at Milngavie Station in the late 90s, early 2000s. It used to be a great laugh, I remember one game at Forfar where some of the guys just missed the game and stayed in the pub. Also a game at Ross County, a 3-1 win with a tremendous song on the bus about Ray Montgomerie. There were double deckers running to some of the big games when we were in the 1st under Lambie, but eventually the numbers just starting fading away, until it sadly stopped running altogether, and was replaced by the NW bus starting at Milngavie (or 'Gordon Pedan's bouncing fun bus', as it came to be known by the few of us who continued getting on at Milngavie for a while).

The North West bus of the '60s and '70s was totally brilliant and run by true fans. What happened after that, I've no idea.

I'll never forget the game at Killie in 1971/72 season when, having gubbed them, we returned to the bus (a double-decker that day!) to find it surrounded by at least 60 or 70 Killie skinheads. They tried to storm the bus as the driver set off but enough of the regulars stood their ground at the back end and would not let them get on, giving as good as they got with the exchange of boots and fists despite us being massively ounumbered.

I've not exactly had much of a soft spot for Kilmarnock since then.

They'd probably never seen a double-decker, and thought it was the latest Massey Ferguson.

dont mean to be boring, but coach drivers can lose their licence on the spot if alcohol is found on a coach attending a sporting event.

Bus convenor and coach company will also find themselves in court

Probably the main reason away supports have collapsed across the board.

Football used to be an excuse for an "away day"(ie piss up) every couple of weeks and gangs of supporters roamed the land socialising and enjoying themselves while attending and creating a rowdy "atmosphere" on terraces all over the country. This was in the era when football was good fun and you could feel involved by turning up and forming a daft, yet passionate, semi-decent crowd in the away end of Glebe Park or Links Park or wherever.

Last time I was on a supporters bus was coming back from the play off win at Peterhead. Luckily there wasn't too much need for drink on the bus after that occasion, although I doubt that bus would have headed straight home (dry) in the not too distant past

I use the NW Bus when travelling to away games and it gets you yo the game...who gives a **** if it's boring?

I think lots of people would.

However frugal you are it will be an expensive day out, and lots of away supporters are obviously deciding the price is too much.

If it was fun then the expense involved might be sort of justifiable. However, going to away games (when your club gets no share of the gate) when it involves just being bused to and from a crappy ground (like Livingston or somewhere) is a rubbish day out basically, and for most people its just not worth the cost.

Our attendances have been awful this season and part time football must be due soon because of that.

You're not involved in sales and marketing by any chance? :D

Funnily enough I do business.

What are you expecting the bus to be like? With the law saying you can't drink on it (For people who want to drink, that is) then that throws a lot of possibilities out the window for many. I bring my iPod and listen to that whilst going to games, I don't expect Morag, Maggie and Gordon to put on a show or cater for my every need.

You mean they don't have a newly choreographed dance routine with pom-poms for every journey? :o

I remember bringing this up at a Jags Trust evening a season or so ago. I may have misheard but I'm fairly sure I was told choreographed dance on supporters buses was a health and safety issue. I do mind tho' there was a motion at a subsequent Trust meeting to co-opt Wayne Sleep but it was knocked back as it was felt at the time that Allan Heron's dance moves were more than adequate.

Personally I think it's a great shame that apache dancing on the City Centre Branch bus stopped sometime back in the mid eighties. And maybe I'm just hopelessly nostalgic when I hark back to the days when Dixie Ingram and the White Heather Dancers used to entertain us on those long pre-motorway trips in the early sixties.

Haw, you've taken that too far.

Well, the long trips are 'renowned' for the morale-boosting movies shown. Pierrepoint, Bill & Ted and the 1970 World Cup.

The last time I travelled on the North West bus (ever) was a Tuesday night game at Dingwall in 2007. The movies of choice were Borat (reasonable start), The Queen and The Devil Wears Prada. That night single handedly ruined away game travel forever for me.

Usually had Rebus all the way to Inverness. But who cares? You don't have to watch it. I certainly didn't.

People who expect a whale of a time on a fan's bus shouldn't travel with one, because it's not going to happen. If you can't have a reasonably good time by A) Entertaining yourself or B.) Speaking to other people on the bus, then don't come a forum and complain about it and don't travel with a fan's bus.

:o Long journey or not I'd feel a certain unease if option A was either a regular or widespread occurrence.

I must remember to take a video camera with me on the road up north next time. Some of the views of the countryside are fabulous. It's a distraction from all those 1960s French arthouse movies that have 50 minutes of monologue over shots of cups of black coffee and cigs burning in ashtrays.

(Is this our lot on the forum until the new season?)

As François Truffaut famously once said to Jean-Luc Godard "At least it's a damn sight better than watching 50 minutes of McConalogue"
