kni
Hinchcliffe hasn't left. Hinchcliffe is not listed on the club website as a player, coach or a member of the management team. It is possible that he has been promised a new deal later, i.e. like last season's last minute deal.

Woodstock Jag
I'm neither happy or disappointed with Flannigan resigning, not sure whether thats's a good thing or not . It's not that I don't rate the guy, as his strengths and weaknesses have already been highlighted. If McNamara pushes ahead with a 4-3-3 next season and Flannigan is in the midfield three then he will need to work hard on the defensive aspect of his game. With more ground to cover and having to track back more it will be interesting to see how he fairs. Hopefully playing beside Rowson can help him adapt to this, while at the same time still posing his attacking ability. If we're playing 4-3-3 I suspect he'll feature as part of that three rather than it being 3 out and out strikers all the time. Remember Corcoran occasionally played up front with Buchanan and Erskine and Flannigan have been auxiliary forwards from time to time. lady-isobel-barnett
It's an interesting point that northern soul raises. I make it we have seven midfielders signed. Imo only Rowson, with perhaps at a stretch Cairney can be described as being proficient defensively. MacBeth, Erskine, Bannigan, Campbell and Flannigan all look more at ease in attack. So even if as woodstock jag says Flannigan is used in the front three it still means we might be a bit lightweight in midfield. Perhaps Bannigan's loan spell has helped in that direction and Campbell is a strong player. It would tho' be beneficial if Flannigan toughened up as well. uberteeb
I wasn't that bothered about Flannigan to be honest although it is good to have someone that can take a good set piece. Has Jaggy Mac officially said we are going 4-3-3 next season, I can't remember where this came from, is it just an assumption based on his talk about playing attacking attractive football? With loads of midfielders I fear in reality it might end up more 4-5-1. What we really need is an Erskine-esque player who can play on the right, someone with pace that can beat a man and isn't afraid to do so. I can't think of anyone in the squad that really fulfills this role, it's certainly not Cairney and I don't think Flannigan or MacBeth are right either. Was Bannigan not mostly moved into centre mid at Ayr last season, could he play this role? From what we saw of Stewart could he play out there? The other option would be Grehan through the middle with Doolan right but Doolan has been baning them in a proper centre forward so it might be daft to switch him. Grehan had the odd foray out on the left of attack towards the end of last season but I wasn't convinced. It's actually refreshing to not know how we will play and not know which players will play in what position. The more I've been typing the more excited I am to see how it all pans out. I hope the following season Jaggy continues to play a 4-3-3 in the SPL.

lennythistle
Still haven't seen any mention on the OS of Flannigan re-signing. Have I missed something? It seems that the contract is , as of just now, not yet signed. As soon as it is then the official site will report it. I'm not aware there is any problem but this is why the official site has not confirmed the re signing of Flannigan. Thanks to Tom for confirming this to me. He signed his contract today, it's official, take my word. As for those not convinced, Flannigan re-signing should be welcome news to us Thistle fans. Only one in the team who can hit a dead ball, and hit it accurately. Alongside Erskine he is the most skillful player in the team, he is one our most dangerous players. The only thing that can often let him down is the state of our bloody pitch! Under Jackie, Flannigan will flourish.

There is no way he should play as part of the midfield three. Hope he proves me wrong right enough and prepared to give him a second chance if Jackie deems hes good enough. I agree, can only think of one free kick he has scored with and i can`t recall that many goals we`ve scored from one of his crosses.I`ve never felt that confident in scoring from a free kick since BOAB left, now there was a dead ball specialist. lennythistle
Thanks - I'd missed that. It's good news as Fox praised his coaching. I'd agree Kni. Think we all would agree that Hinchy as a goalkeeper is past it but as a coach, think we may have the best in the league. Fox is a very good keeper....under Hinchy's guidance I'm sure he can improve further.

Pie Of The Month
Thistle scored a fair amount of goals from his corner's last season, look it up. Wasn't he also top scorer from the midfield? We did score a fair number of goals from corner compared to previous seasons, 3 of them were Flannigan corners though as the others were when Paton and Boyle were taking corners. Also Erskine was our top scorer from midfield.
Jaggernaut
I'm hoping that both Cairney and Rowser will significantly improve on last season's pretty dire score tallies.
