Championship transfer thread - all the ins...
partickthedog replied to Dark Passenger's topic in Main Jags forum
He looked a very good player at around the time when Falkirk had that run to the Cup Final. Strong defender and scored goals too. I can remember hoping that we would try to sign him, but thought that his sights would be set higher (even when we were in the Premier). Is there any particular reason (injury?) why his career has not (yet) blossomed as expected? -
You would be hopeless as a judge pronouncing sentence!

The Fox and Sneddon sounds like a good name for a pub for you not to drink in. -

Williamson and Penrice would have to work exceptionally hard to provide effective width in that starting line up (though I cannot think of anything better!). Would also like to see Calum Wilson being given an opportunity, either from the start or coming on with a decent chunk of the game still to go (perhaps replacing Harkins). -
This, and I, shouldn't be here: Cathkin Park

What happened to First and Second Lanark? -
Have had this limerick in draft form for years and I have finally been able to complete it. Surely he has to sign now: There once was a young man from Buchlyvie Whose house was covered in ivy He found it cathartic To score for the Partick Thistle legend Fraser Fyvie!
-
Yes indeed. Especially useful if you are writing a limerick and need a rhyme for Buchlyvie.

Banzo has more, surely? And Cardle too, and maybe even Fitzy. Actually do not remember Miller scoring at Firhill, but I would not have made any great effort to remember Rangers goals, so some may have slipped in without me noticing.

Would Toastie be the only one to score both ways in the same season? In our second promotion season under Lambie, Toastie scored against us for St Mirren in the opening League game. He scored a handful for us towards the end of the season, including the vital equaliser away to Airdrie (which caused one of our fans to fall over a gate!). -

Mo Johnston definitely positive! -
Exchanging Kris Doolan for Kenny Miller means that there will likely be 2 new inductees to the elite club of those who have scored both for and against Thistle in competitive action (I am leaving out own goals). Just off the top of my head and limiting myself to half a dozen (in alphabetical order), I can think of the following, all of whom emerged with a healthy positive balance. ie they scored a lot more for us than against us: Graeme Dorrans Martin Hardie Gary Harkins Scott MacDonald Aaron Muirhead Mark Roberts I am sure that forum users can think of many more to add to that "positive" list. What I am trying to work out in my memory is as to whether there is anybody who has scored in both directions and emerged with a negative balance. The following spring to mind who have scored a handful each way, but I am not sure of the final outcome. Perhaps a statto can help: Steven Anderson Joe Cardle Pat Keogh Hopefully Kenny Miller will soon move into the positive camp. Surely it would be impossible for Kris Doolan to move into the negative camp, unless he scores them 10 at a time in every game against us over the next several seasons??

I grant you its better than "Humpty Dumpty sat on Luke Wall".

One to sing when playing Ayr United (with a tinge of regret): He wears Number Nine Scores all the time You've got Kris Doolan.
-
The son of Mark McGhee?

He wears Number Nine He’s aged thirty nine We’ve got Kenny Miller.

I suspect that eating humble pie is not in the Caldwell psyche, but if the potential new owners decide to "refresh" the management team, could Doolan re-appear as an option? -
Tom Robson is still young enough to learn to play right full back, central defence, defensive midfield or attacking midfield. 2-4-6-8 Never too late.

It's brilliant having all these Scotland central defenders whose names end in "A". -
Whichever gender is playing, Erin Cuthbert is the feisty, combative sort of character who makes football worth watching, encourages the team, rumbles up the opposition and inspires the fans. For some reason, Kim Little has been the precise opposite. She obviously has bags of skill and the ability to change games, but has been content to do the minimum to recycle possession, as though she were on a "work to rule". If we can get her more engaged, then with Claire Emslie on from the start (cannot understand why she was dropped), there must be a reasonable chance of further progression. I agree with a lot of what the opening poster said about similarities to Thistle. The season just passed has been notable for a lot of performances where the quality of the first half has been light years from the quality of the second half (and the difference has of course been in both directions). Hopefully this season we will see some Cuthbert-like spirit and vigour from Thistle and some 90/95 minute performances.

Please enlighten me. What is his one glaring deficiency? I thought he was quite good at glaring (though I would have to say that Shelley Kerr is the master of that particular art).

I think I know where that is. Let me take you down.
