  1. Would add Erskine to that list.
  2. Playing really well with both Erskine and Storey in their different ways creating threats. At times could move the ball a little faster in attack. Muzzy getting back to his old self and receiving the ball in great positions far up the pitch. Not always made best use of the space he has been given, but then again his cross led to the goal.
  3. Cynical backward-looking appointment of a time-served establishment figure, with nothing to indicate that he will bring anything fresh to the table. It would probably not have worked, but I would actually have preferred somebody with a bit of energy and enthusiasm like John Hughes, even when tinged with some endearing naivety. At least he knows how to analyse a game honestly and give appropriate credit to both teams involved.
  4. I think I am with Allyo on this one. Barton is so good at sweeper and sometimes uses his skill from there to come forward through the midfield area. However, when he starts in midfield he looks flustered, hurried and uncomfortable. Just that extra second or so he has at the back to weigh up the options makes all the difference and he stands out as cultured, composed and totally Shaggy-like.
  5. And when Stevie Lawless scores at McDiarmid, Thistle win. Speaking more generally, whereas his near contemporaries Kris Doolan and Chris Erskine often score in draws or defeats, my recollection would be that when Stevie scores anywhere , the Jags usually win. Has he ever scored in a defeat? I can recall Stevie scoring in a 2-2 away draw v Kilmarnock and a 3-3 home draw v Dunfermline. Every other goal I remember was in a victory. This good record was miraculously protected by the Cowdenbeath fog which enveloped the ground when Thistle were 2-1 down, with Stevie as our scorer. PS Late Edit. Was pondering Stevie's goals on way into work and remembered his absolute stormer against Aberdeen at Firhill, which unfortunately was countered by 2 from Aberdeen. Memory fading a bit but in our first season up, did Stevie score early, before a McFadden inspired Motherwell scored several in response? However, in both cases, Stevie put us into the lead. So, if I can rescue any point from this meandering ramble, it is that Stevie doesn't do late consolations! .
  6. Happened to be driving on Tuesday evening and listening to Kilmarnock v Dundee on the radio. It seemed that quite apart from one headed goal Steven Caulker was a threat at virtually every set piece and the defence could not handle his strength and athleticism. Last season we would have stuck Big Liam on him. Maybe a task for Bailly Cargill, but quite a challenge for whomever is delegated for that purpose.
  7. Legal language often uses the "ee" ending to indicate the recipient of something, eg the recipient of an assignation is an assignee. I love the description of the recipient of a foul as the foulee!
  8. Is Stevie Lawless Thistle's top scorer at McDiarmid Park?
  9. Is there a Plate or a Bowl competition I can enter?
  10. There has to be a song for Kris based on the similarity of his surname to the Da Doo Ron Ron lyrics. Here is my attempt which at least gets his name right. Can anyone improve on this? More to the point, has anyone got the courage to sing it? Number 9 for Thistle, and he just can't miss; Kris Doolan lan lan, Kris Doolan, lan lan; Jags fans know that his name is Kris; Kris Doolan lan lan, Kris Doolan lan lan; Yes, he just can't miss; Yes, his name is Kris; Yes, a century of bliss; Kris Doolan lan lan, Kris Doolan lan lan.
  11. Chris Erskine has always been one of my favourite players. However, I was beginning to question whether, apart from the occasional flash of brilliance, he was still capable of putting in a top level 90 minute performance. He certainly proved me wrong yesterday and I am delighted. All power to the SuperSquid!!
  12. And Robert Dunn away v Livingston in or around 1999.
  13. To use the cliche. A half of two halves.
  14. Compper could also be •the stadium host and announcer •someone who looks at different notes simultaneously • someone who sleeps in his van •or if he is not very good at that someone who sleeps in his tent!
  15. What is the team? I am not a face booker or twitterer and the club do not seem to have bothered with the usual Matchzone on the official website..a bit like they do not seem to be bothering trying to win this game by playing our best in form players!
  16. I think Compper is the guy who hands out the free tickets.
  17. As I often do on a Saturday morning, catching up on some of the sports news I may have missed over the week. I turn to BBC Sport Scotland Football and read that both Ian Maxwell and Jackie Macnamara are being highly praised and touted as credible candidates for the post of Chief Executive of the SFA. How did I miss the story about Scottish football moving to a new planet?
  18. A few years ago a visiting American very kindly gave me a gift of a Philadelphia Eagles hoodie. Although I wore the hoodie I did not take much interest in the Eagles until last night I saw that they were in the Superbowl Final. They had never won it before and were unfancied against an expensively assembled superstar laden team who had lifted the trophy on numerous occasions. Yet with a combination of in your face bravery, dogged determination and some wonderful trick plays, the Eagles won the day. I am wearing the hoodie to Firhill tomorrow night in the hope that it will inspire the Jags or at least be some sort of lucky omen and reminder that every underdog has its day! I also recall that the eagles defeated the dark forces of the Nazgul in the Lord of the Rings.
  19. John Wallace must have had an incredible strike rate!
  20. Not to mention Jean Yves Anis who played football with a smile on his face. On his day he was amazing. Sadly his days were infrequent.
  21. Agreed, that is brutal, but I think we have to make an honourable exception for Scott McCulloch (BBC name McKellar) with his Raging Bull free kicks.
  22. Agree with all that, especially the downgraded optimism and acceptance of a draw as a reasonable outcome. Osman and Woods were dominant in the first half but less so in the second, which was one of the reasons the tide began to turn against us. Barton's marshalling of the defence in the second half was an important contributing factor to surviving with a point intact.
  23. I well remember Duke Gekantawa, but I had forgotten Scott McKellar.
  24. Ayr United duties permitting, Ian McCall pops up on BBC radio every now and again, and generally has a positive and informed word to say about the Jags.
