  1. I think we need to accept that financially we are very weak at the moment and also accept that as a result of this we will not be the most attractive proposition for many players, and can only hope that as the window closing draws nearer that some decide to accept a less financially attractive package. Getting more revenue in is crucial, and it's unbelievable that some posters or should that be (im)posters on here would rather Celtic were put out of CL than their club get £150k. Finally more people are needed through the gate at every home game, therefore quite annoying when it appears that regular contributors to this forum would rather stay at home and watch Luton v Stoke and post that they are watching Stephen O'Donnell than go and watch the team they profess to support And they complain that we are not signing anyone!!!!
  2. Unfortunately Banzo is suspended from tonight's game, and Welsh is carrying a knock according to today's press. Therefore we may need to play Osman, although like others I would prefer to see him rested and raring to go against Aberdeen on Saturday. I am not sure about having a great desire to do well in this comp, certainly not at he expense of league points, although a decent run would bring in some revenue for new players, so its a bit of a dilema for Archie. Whatever team Archie plays should be better than anything Falkirk can muster, and by no means am I saying they are a bad side, it's just that if we impose ourselves on the game from the start like we did against Kille we will win.

    Abdul

Does anyone else think that with Abdul missing on Saturday that we passed the ball much quicker which resulted in our first 30 minutes of domination. Now I think Abdul is an outstanding player, and may have been the guy to stop their quick free kick for their first goal, however I do think sometimes he deliberate too long on making a pass which takes the impetus out of some moves. On Saturday I think that was the best display of us zipping the ball about since our Div 1 winning season.
  4. Come on you didn't expect Sportscene to show a fair reflection of the game. Higgy's elbow is a yellow card and would have resulted in a red, therefore a valid talking point for a show like Sportscene, what do they do, they don't even include it their highlights!!! I hope Archie gets the players to look at that show and use the unadulterated drivel spoken about the team as a motivation to get results, Bonnar et al, don't have a clue who has left our squad or who has come in yet they feel they have the authority to comment on what they called a "light " squad.
  5. I think we need to be getting Dools signed up pronto. In just over 4 months time he can sign for another team and that would not be clever on our part if we allowed that situation to happen. He came back into the team after 20 minutes on Wednesday night and was superb and carried that on yesterday,he is the best player we have or have had recently at playing the lone striker role. Without dredging up LT again, I don't think he would have scored either of the goals Dools scored yesterday.
  6. I think it also worth mentioning Dools who was excellent when he came on. He offers so much more than your bog standard target man.he worked his socks off and was unlucky not to score just before HT.
  7. I think we should start with Lindsay and Hendry with Seabourne on the bench as back up. I would imagine Fools would start and bring on 99 at some point. For me on Sunday this isn't a game I look to to add to our points tally, but what it does do this Sunday is for the first time us Jags fans are all together and not fragmented around the stadium, so we really need to make a racket and get behind the team, they will need all of the help they can get. More importantly we can drown out the sectarian bile which will be emanating from the JHS
  8. Absolutely not taking anything for granted, however due to our 8th placed finish last season, it looks like we will be seeded in the next round as well if we manage to negotiate whoever we draw today. Means we would avoid any of the better teams at least until QF stage. It would be excellent if we could get a couple of decent draws and at least make the semi final.
  9. I think it's natural to speculate about the season ahead, however looking much further ahead we have a solid foundation at Firhill for the first time in a long time. Financially sound, some good youngsters coming through and competing in the top flight for a third year in succession. This season will hinge on us winning games particularly at home against teams in our category and punching above our weight occasionally against Celtic, Aberdeen Dundee Utd. I think we will be fine this season although as has been already mentioned a 12/15 goal striker would be the icing on the cake.
  10. I know there is not a lot happening just now but I find this thread totally baffling. Who gives a flying fck that Dundee beat Wigan in a pre-season friendly, and we only drew with them, seriously!!!! We lost and drew last season with Dundee through our own failings, Dools & Stevenson 2 on 1chance at Dens before they scored, nothing to do with bad luck. We really are scraping the barrel here guys.
  11. Sean Welsh bossed the game in the first half last night, and the tackle from behind that caused him not to reappear in the second half would have been a yellow card in a competitive game. He is also a goal threat which is something we badly miss from midfield. I am old enough to remember guys like Ray Farningham and Albert Craig, who both regularly chipped in with goals from midfield. I think we should be offering Sean a deal until the end of the season, as long as he comes through the next few weeks unscathed, because the games are going to get faster and more physical.
  12. Some posters on P&B suggesting names like Nicky Clark and or John Daly. I personally wouldn't be interested in any of those two, I would rather persevere with what we have than sign either of them. It's nothing to do with the Sevco thing its just I don't think either are better than Doolan.
  13. Think there were a lot of positives tonight particularly around the young players on show. Hendry was composed, has pace and was always shouting for the ball which shows he is confident as well. I think overall the squad is fairly strong and flexible, but we desperately need a striker urgently, it was glaringly obvious last night that Dools needs some support. Archie mentioning in his post match reactions that he won't be rushed, has a few irons in the fire but they are not over the line yet.
  14. It's good to see that Archie's signing priorities are similar to what most of us think we need. I also like the thorough way he prepares the team, for example he said they look the game against Falkirk because of their artificial surface in prep for the Hamilton game.
  15. I thought yesterday's game showed that we have some decent young players coming through and if Archie can bring another couple of quality signings we will be fine. Freddie coached young Hendry through the game and the young guy didn't put a foot wrong, which is just as well because I think Seabourne will be missing more often than not. We need another presence up top that allows us to vary our style of play, Doolan being asked to do too much on his own. Overall we were fairly comfortable and looked more of a threat after half time and the introduction of Booth, Lawless and Welsh, who incidentally looked very sharp .
  16. Centre back is a strange one. I assume Archie knew that Conrad was leaving, and still released BRE, therefore another assumption should be that he has other centre back options in his sights. I think Lindsay did well against Dundee Utd, and it would be worthwhile giving him a run in the first team squad this season, most probably from the bench.
  17. I tend to agree with Ian Mac on Taylor, I don't think we should be pinning all our hopes on signing him. Archie will bide his time on securing another striker and shouldn't break the bank to get LT. We need to trust Archie, who I believe will have a couple of striker options. That being said we do need at least 3/4 additional signings to be in a reasonable able position for August 1st
  18. I agree that Archie and Shaggy have done a superb job when you consider the constraints that they have to work under, and still attempting to play football the proper way. My concern is that others will be watching what Archie does with his team and also how he conducts himself impeccably when representing the club in the various media. My reason for raising this, is that I notice that Sheffield Utd are looking at Tommy Wright potentially replacing the sacked Nigel Clough. If he did go there would St J come calling for Archie?
  19. I hope the players are not as complacent as some of the posters on here. There could be a scenario where it is 0-0 at half time and Motherwell are losing 2-0, which would then fire St Mirren up to go all guns blazing in the 2nd half, which I don't think would be good. I genuinely believe we will win tomorrow, however we need to concentrate and as fans we need to support the team in the manner we would if it was a relegation decider.
  20. Keeping Osman, Lawless and Balatoni, I think is the priority along with doing a deal for Taylor. SOD is away and I am not sure if Higgy's heart is in remaining here. Add McDonald (keeper) and scour England for decent full backs, assuming Booth goes back to Hibs, and I dont think we will be far away. Potentially Brian Graham and Jackson Irvine would be another couple of good squad additions. I think we also need to look at our width and someone like the lad Watmore (not sure of the spelling) from Sunderland who was on loan at Hibs would also be a good addition.
  21. Wow indeed Ian, what is this guy on, the same stuff as Ed Milliband me thinks!!!!
  22. I think victory in our game against Ross County is absolutely pivotal in not only securing our Premiership status but also will go along way to us securing 8th or maybe even 7th place in the league and we are all aware of the significance of that in terms of increased revenue for the club. With that in mind do folks think that perhaps the Jags board should invest a wee bit of cash in subsidising supporters buses to Dingwall or if fans go by train subside the entrance fee? I know this season we haven't travelled in as many numbers as last season but we do still make a huge effort to back our team on the road. Only last week Archie made reference to the support at Celtic, so surely a big vocal support at Dingwall would be a huge asset to the team and go along way to ending RC's incredible run. Finally am not sure of the costs associated with my proposal, however if we secure Premiership safety sooner rather than later we can start to make offers to those players OoC who we want to keep.
  23. Think we need to start applauding Archie for the way he has now adapted the team with regard to seeing games out. Yesterday when we went 1 nil up we continued to go at Motherwell and got the 2nd and could have a scored more. Last season or even earlier this season we would have say back at 1 nil up and invited the opposition to come at us, usually ending in despair for us. Clearly Archie has grown in terms of learning from experience and has the team well organised and I think most importantly has the team playing to the strengths of the players abilities. Even last week at Aberdeen going into the last 10 minutes I never felt overly concerned that Aberdeen would score such was the shape and discipline of the team. Finally it would good if some of the earlier discontented posters came on and acknowledged that Archie is a very good manager who has made mistakes but is learning how to rectify errors of the past. If you look at the other managers in the SPL he is a credit to our club in the way he conducts himself
  24. Whilst I know we are all frustrated about lots of things going on at the club, and some dire performances I think we all need a reality check. We r probably punching about where we should be and think that we need to do our bit as well, and try to get behind the team and stop arguing amongst ourselves (North Stand). If we the guys who go to the North Stand ever needed a reality check, look at the guys who are at every home game down at the front who have a whole lot of barriers which need to be overcome just to go and see the Jags . That's why we need to get real and help whichever players in the team who actually give F#%k get over the line.
  25. We need to play the most attack minded team possible tomorrow, without compromising defensive cover, therefore if Bannigan and Seabourne are missing my team would be; Gallagher O'Donnell Balatoni Frans Booth Osman Fraser Lawless Doolan Higginbotham Taylor I know that's a pretty expansive team and playing it would mean needin to get the first goal, if we did then I think the attacking guys on the team would keep County busy and pinned back
