  1. Was a Celtic fan as a boy, until went to a game against Motherwell and was sickened by all the bigotry and I started wanting Motherwell to win. My great- uncle was a Jags fan(of sorts) and he offered to take me to Firhill, and now forty years later I'm still going.
  2. You've really got to wonder what kind of life this nutter(s) has had to bring them to this cr*phat do they actually want to achieve. I mean what do they actually expect to achieve? And more to the point who do they claim to represent(apart of course from Donald Findlay)?
  3. Couldn't have happened to a nicer team
  4. I've always thought that in practise the policies of the Labour Party and the SNP were actually fairly similar. With the obvious exception of independence. However, at a practical level it would not be over egging the issue to suggest that each party loathes the other. So absolutely no go their. I think that the result will be tight and I for one would not like to predict the outcome, but my guess for what its worth is another SNP minority administration.
  5. Think the mobarchy is anrchic and frankly irelavant to most people, but given recent events viz. Rangers etc. would guess that some people in this neck of the woods wouldn't take to kindly to an anti-monarchy demonstration. That in itself is obviously no reason not to actually have one. The great danger would be that it would be hijacked by the sectarian element(both so- called republican(Irish) and equally unrepresentative loyalist elements for their own narrow sectarian purposes.
  6. Thats quite a list of grievances and I've absolutely no idea of the veracity or otherwhise of your points, The bottom line is that Lennon has been threatened etc., mainly due to the fact that he is an Irish Catholic who manages Celtic, and that is in my book simply not acceptable. As any form of racism or bigotry has no place in a modern civilised society. I would have thought that general statement to be broadly acceptable to most users of this forum. Furthermore, I did not raise this point to make pathetic tribal points of the sort we'll no doubt be bombarded with come Sunday lunchtime.
  7. It seems to be a facet of modern life that if the great unwashed don't agree with a proposition from their betters, then it will just be proposed in a different form: which being stupid we'll all accept!
  8. I'm afraid thats one of the many periods in our recent history I'd rather try and forget.
  9. Just saw this on the BBC website and I'm sure all Thistle supporters will unreservedely condem such mindless madness. No matter that Neil Lennon is not my favourite person, it takes a special type of nutter to take bigotry to this level. At the end of the day its all about kicking a ball around a football park and it should never, ever be a matter of life and death. To be fair I'm sure that the vast majority of Rangers and Celtic fans would utterly condemm such actions as well. It really is time that sections of Scottish society were dragged kicking and screaming (as will probably be neccessary) into the twenty first century.
  10. Mice thought but extremely unlikely: I remember when the H*n's were really rank rotten in the eighties and a sizeable amount of them went to support Heart's, since they were not bad at the time. Success or lack of it as always the determinant factor in your average H*n's worldview. However come Souness, they all returned to their red, white and blue prams. I know there are quite a few who profess to have a soft spot for the Jags, but I think that's just a touch of self delusional affectation to make themselves feel comfortable with being a bigot or at least supporting a bigoted team. BTW the last description covers my own father , much to my great chagrin.
  11. Excellent posts encasulates all my feelling viz, IMcC and in prticular the dire future which seems to be in store for this club. Even though it's a cracking night I can't go 'cos I'm working it's just no fair!
  12. I cannot for the life of me see why any top English Premier League side will be keen to add, to an already overcrowded fixture list: meaningless games against what they would consider second rate opposition. Unless , of course they are anxious to welcome the scourge of bigoted supporters , particularly those of a Rangers persuasion, whom not only have the SFA being singularly unable to adress, but who are now the subject of long delayed action bt UEFA, Really, you've got to ask yourself what feckin planet are these people living on? Probably the same planet where you propose reverting to a structure no football fan I'm aware of wants, simply to get their hands on Murdoch's thirty pieces of silver(again!). It would be comical if it weren't so tragic!
  13. I know I am being a tad, naive here but do we really need another new top?
  14. See that I won hee-haw again, its obviously a deliberate conspiracy directed against me
  15. The one thing that I've really got to give him credit for is the revamping of our youth policy, all thins being equal we should see the benefits of this in the years to come. As for the directors seeking advice , well I hope they've resigned themselves to a very long process.
  16. I really doubt that whoever we get will have the chance to change much and to be honest so long as we don't get a complete nugget(BoD's are you listening!) along the lines of the Bunnet, I don't see anyone making much of a difference.
  17. I think that is a very cogent point.
  18. The jist of Rangers' case would seem to be that they admit that they have a problem, but that they don't expect anyone to do anything about it. Now, the logic of this viewpoint might find some resonance in the rarefied atmosphere of Park Gardens, but it is not one I expect to carry much weight with UEFA. I'm afraid the old currant buns are being effectively hoisted on their own petard and each reply reveals the logical inconsistency of hunnery. Still its funny to see the gruesome twosome arguing who is the most persecuted! The sad fact about it all is that while all this cr*p is going on we're receiving the usual guidance from Park Gardens i.e. SFA. Expect, the usual deluge of pro-Rangers propaganda revealing that this sectarian nonsense has nothing to do with the Ibrox club it's all the fault of Celtic, Mother Theresa, Spaniards, Italians, the French, Americans , some Germans and of course the Pope who has nothing better to do with his day than, forget leading the worlds biggest religion, to stick the boot into Rangers. Where was I yes the IRA, the BBC, the Good Friday agreement, Caffoliks and any Proddies who lack the loyalty to support the old Teddy Bears. Really its the fault of everyone who is not a dyed in the wool hum and don't forget that those bloody Tim's they're all paranoid you know!
  19. From the BBC website http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13088419.stm, it seems that UEFA are not likely to be as tolerant in their attitudes as the SFA, who it would do good to take action against the sectarianism on their front door, rather than try to force through a ten team league that no one wants, well not many people have accused the football authorities in this country of living on planet earth. The one obvious question that UEFA's stance raises is why oh why have our own governing bodies taken any significant action ever/ Oh I forgot they are going to take the QC who represented Lennon to court for libel, not exactly politique I'd humbly suggest Although, I don't for a minute agree with the paranoia of the Tims, even I gotta admit the events in Park Gardens look suspicious to say the least.
  20. I'm inclined to agree that this is another sign of the death by a thousand cutbacks of Scottish football , as we have known it, if not alway loved it. I will not crow about the distress of an opponent, since you never really know that its not going to be your team next. As I've posted on here in the past I haven't the foggiest idea what we can do about it. I'm afraid that the forces that are seeking to change the situation in this country care not a jot for "wee" teams like Thistle. If even Celtic and Rangers are forced to play at 6:00 pm to satisfy the "money men", I doubt we've got much of a look in.I've amended my post, to add the caveat that this sympathy for teams in financial trouble obviously does not extend to those who frequent Dens Park or Ibrox Stadium(I'll leave that to the SFA/SFL).
  21. I really, really doubt that anyone could equate the FYP and FYQ chants with any of the sectarian bike that jumps out of our televisions whenever Rangers are broadcast. To suggest anything else, is blatant obfuscation. Unfortunately, anyone who has been brought up in and around Glasgow, knows full well what a sectarian chant is. I can say hand on heart(no pun intended) that in forty years of going to Firhill I have never heard anything remotely like one. Apart, of course when we entertain our neighbours.
  22. I noticed Mr. Bain's comment to and much like yourself thought it a pretty abject and puerile one. When will the Rangers "family"(lol!!)ever realise that it matters not one jot what supporters of any other team in the world do, it is they who are being accused and not anybody else. The thought of poor, innocent Rangers supporters being persecuted would be laughable, if it wasn't so pathetic.
  23. Funny how so many fat people are h*ns?
