  1. That's the one thing he hasn't managed to do. It's funny how people keep looking back and quoting 2 wins from 21 games even though 5 of those were last season after we'd finished 6th. Why not look back further to when he got us promoted, when McNamara couldn't buy an away win and then helped us stay up and improve season after season. In my mind, this looks like a blip on his otherwise fantastic record of achievements brought on by some unfortunate circumstances.
  2. We overcame it last year but is a big ask to give teams a start each year and then claw it back when you have no momentum from the opening games. Ourselves and Ross Cty had a terrible run of opening fixtures. At the point where we could claw it back, we've had far too many injuries. I still think we could get back into things with a few players back. Archie has earned the right to see this season out.
  3. Was just thinking to myself that these were the type of games where we'd get our 1 penalty for the season. Then they get one.....
  4. Certainly not down yet but looks like us or Dundee for bottom spot. Would take a play-off place in a heartbeat just now. A mixture of injuries, poor performances and the laziest bunch of SFA phuckers I've ever known to exist. Each season we look lucky if we'll have any points by October and they keep the same fixture list each time. Even U12 boys leagues change them each year. I've long suspected their wish is to have only 2 Glasgow teams in the top league.
  5. Time for Archie to forget about who's injured and who isn't and change the formation to 4 1 4 1. We're asking too much of the wide men who are not good enough to play a whole side to themselves. Why do we need so many players in the middle? We are stifling ourselves by allowing our middle creative players no room and then killing ourselves out wide where the wide player has the whole wing. Forget Osman and Bannigan being fit, they are just two more defensive, pass the ball 5 yards, hack the opposition, run of the mill, central players. We have enough of those already. Clear the middle and make space for Erskine and Spittal and get some support out wide for the players that need it. Barton could easily sit in front of the two centre backs and pick up any loose balls. I can't see a single player in this team that fits a 3 5 (2) type formation.
  6. Could have been that Jaggernaut.Just annoying that the nod was given and we acted on it. Easy to say now that we should have waited for official clearance but guess we thought we were good to go. I'll replace it with safe standing after my lottery win
  7. Rankles me to this day.I remember a vote was to take place at the Glasgow Council to decide whether planning permission would be granted for a small stand with offices at the back. Word had got back that it was an 'unofficial' yes and we duly tore the terracing down. It was then officially a no vote and we were left with a mess. Who would vote no to a plan like that?
  8. Great period for us coming up where we can cement our place in the top league. I think we'll do just that. Not too far away in recent performances from turning on the style again. A wee bit of confidence goes a long way.
  9. Just do something like they do in the Champions League where the 3rd placed team go to the Europa league.Yes, we could still miss out no doubt.
  10. Not too bad. Kilmarnock, St. Mirren, Aberdeen, Ross County and Fraserburgh left in the draw. And they get ......., yep, thought so.
  11. I'm sure the joke may be on me here but I was being deadly serious. I'd take a 'consolation' World Cup versus a couple of friendlies, any day.
  12. Anyone we should easily beat will do for me. Would rather we kept our one home tie for the later rounds. You know the round where Rangers are at home to Peterhead and Celtic away to Airdrie and we get the best team left in it from as far north as possible.
  13. My first act after winning the Euromillions is to replace the bing with a safe standing area.'Our' family area to watch a match was behind the goal, halfway up the terrace and slightly off centre towards the shed. Love to bring that back to life. My first memory as a young kid was watching a Celtic game there surrounded by their fans. Think it ended 3-2 or 3-1 to them but I remember cheering when I think Jim Melrose scored (most likely have that wrong), and being scowled at by grown men. I must have been 7 or 8 years old as well. Watched the Forfar 0-0 game there, great day and night and my worst ever Thistle match...... 0-1 to The Blue Brazil.
  14. That really is a fantastic idea and I'm surprised no one has thought of it before.Would be quite exciting and would take the sting out of not qualifying for the WC.
  15. I agree slightly but it depends on your outlook. If you are referring to the TAMB forum, then there are some elite members there that act the goat at times. I also don't agree with pissing in front of the public and especially hate it when some idiots start booting a ball up in the air in town square or wherever. Generally speaking though, most Scotland fans are there to enjoy the whole trip and to mix with the locals. One or two but not many, might get out of order after too many beers but I don't recall a nasty atmosphere at any time. Wearing the kilt is a bit of fun and isn't done to offend people.
  16. Lol. Was trying to put a list together using teams I'd encountered in numbers away from Hampden to avoid conjecture.Having said that, it's such a small sample size as I've only been in the company of the fans of teams mentioned 1 to 4 times at most. I went to the Morocco v Scotland game at WC 98 in France without a ticket. Touts were selling tickets at incredibly high prices as they will, so I watched it in the square and despite being really drunk, realised just in time that a group of Morocco fans were trying to relieve me of my money etc. Italy, Wales and England are on my list due to crowd trouble. Couldn't believe how bad it was in Cardiff. ROI are included due to mass disappointment. I travelled to Dublin for the party of my life to a friendly about 17 years ago. We won 2 - 1. The Irish did everything possible to avoid enjoying themselves it seems and didn't mingle at all. Nothing terrible but their reputation is just hype. I didn't see too many of them at the end the other night either. I'm pretty sure people will have their own lists and reasons for them that are completely different to mine.
  17. No criteria mentioned, so I'll go with 'enjoy themselves before, during and after the match'. In order of personal preference; Scotland Germany Netherlands Lithuania Iceland Belgium Denmark France Norway Brazil Haven't got a top 10 worst fans, but if I did, these would be in it; ROI Italy Wales England Morocco
  18. Germany, but ultimately ABE. So glad ROI are out. Worse than any team I've ever watched including Ross County when they got promoted that year. Their fans are not even in the top ten of best fans in the world but somehow get credit.

Lol, yeah. Long ago.Sweden 1-0, Georgia 1-0 at Ibrox Latvia 2-0, Faroes 6-0, ROI 1-0 at Parkhead Estonia 3-2 at Tynecastle Trinidad & Tobago 4-1 at Easter Road My first game was a crazy affair v England at Wembley in 1988 where the whole ground was fighting just after Peter Beardsley scored. Around 2000 Chelsea fans in the Scotland end. Really bad. As good as my 'away' / 'home' ground record is, it took me five games to even see us score versus the Auld Enemy. Not exactly sure of my first Thistle game but my Dad, Uncles and Granda took me at an early age in the seventies. Would guess at around 1974. I was completely Thistle daft and loved the kit in the late 70's. Alan Rough owned the Camp Bar I think and my Granda got me a Birthday card signed by him. Loved Alex O'Hara and Doug Somner.

I've watched Scotland at Parkhead 3 times and Ibrox twice and we've won all five. Come to think of it I've seen us win at Tyncastle and Easter Road as well. 7 for 7. Incredible luck I suppose and actually can't believe that but it's just not the same. How we could play at the homes of two teams whose core believe is that they are too good for Scotland and belong in the English top tier is beyond me. We may as well play at St. James' Park as well.
  21. Just reviewed and think it's a different song / tune in Gregory's Girl. Sometimes my memories are better than the reality.
  22. Just had a listen on YouTube and brought back great memories of watching Gregory's Girl. I wonder if we play it because of the link Thistle had to that film? Thistle posters in Gregorys bedroom when he was playing the drums and the fact we trained the football players / Dee Hepburn for the film.
  23. I definitely prefer the heady mixture of cheering on your own team and then verbally getting right in about the other. It should end the second the final whistle is blown and mostly does. Certain teams 'supporters' don't know the difference between creating an atmosphere for 90 minutes and then going about their normal business. Sadly, their normal business is equally as distasteful as the 90 minutes of bile they've just spewed and they'll steal property and set it on fire afterwards etc. This behaviour is noticed and as with decisions on the park, the non OF teams will suffer most as a clamp down is initiated by those in charge. It's sad that I and possibly many others have gone from wanting to beat Rangers more than anything to wishing we didn't play them at all. 10 years ago, I'd have been on the drink for a week if we were to beat them, now I'd feel a bit of a fraud as I've convinced myself I'd rather we didn't play them in the first place. On second thoughts, who am I kidding. Please can we just knock them out of the Scottish Cup
  24. Not sure how I forgot to mention Erskine. Definitely one of the footballers.
