  1. Am I right in thinking that nobody yet has mentioned the Firhill Tavern? I was never in there. How was it?
  2. OK, sorry. Let's hope the whole thing doesn't mushroom.
  3. Agreed. Makes our own Hall of Fame auctions look amateurish. The top one must surely be...... lunch with Catriona Shearer! I'd be salivating all over the place!
  4. I do usually tune in for the morning roundup of Scottish news, for a couple of reasons. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_khnBA58ed2k/Skn5G9S7lvI/AAAAAAAAIR0/TGvMPy7Y-mk/s1600-h/PDVD_047.JPG
  5. Not the biggest of guys....... But if he's Gradyesque in terms of scoring, that'll do nicely.
  6. Ask him about the lottery numbers! Great action photies.
  7. It's so frustrating to think back on the various lousy performances against "lowly" teams this season. Especially away from home.
  8. As mentioned above, if Doolan continues scoring between now and the end of the season somebody might make us an offer that we couldn't refuse. Hard to have imagined that a few weeks ago, but that's the way of things.
  9. Excellent photies. The centenary away top seen a fair number of victories, I think.
  10. Nobody seems to have commented on the idea that I touted in all seriousness: each team plays each other only twice in the league, regardless of the size of the league. That could translate either into a game only every other week, or else a 2-3-month winter shutdown. Less drudgery from umpteen matches against the same opposition, less football in general, hence keeping it fresh, more meaningful games, and it would also free up time for fans to get other things done. To overcome the financial shortfall, simply double the cost of entry to each match - it wouldn't cost fans any more in the long run, but would do their waistlines good as there would presumably be fewer pies eaten in the course of a season.
  11. I actually think that the reintroduction of terracing at somewhere like Firhill might lead to reduced income for the club. Presumably the price to get in would be cheaper, let's say £5 less. That's £5 down on everybody who switched to the terracing from the stands. And I don't for one second believe that freezing your balls off in the wind, rain and snow on a winter night in Scotland is somehow going to magically attract back enough people who prefer to stay in the pub or watch tv at home to make it profitable. There's no doubt that in some cases a terracing crowd can increase atmosphere, but we've all stood on miserable, morgue-like terraces as well.
  12. Excuse my ignorance; I'm glad she's a Thistle fan, whoever she is, but how is she (or will she be) famous?
  13. Wasn't at the game, so didn't hear the joke, but would have felt it was in bad taste. However, there seems to be a pretty incredible "apology demanded" reaction on here when things occur that somebody doesn't agree with. How about an apology from McCall, then the players, for yesterday's performance? How about an apology for people having to go to several queues to get into the match? How about an apology for the half-cold pies? Etc. etc.
  14. The reality of things is that Cowdenbeath, Stirling Albion etc. is our level. In other words, we are a middling 1st division team with a greater likelihood of getting relegated (as recent history shows) than ever making it back to the top flight. It is (or should be) unacceptable that a squad of full-time professionals struggles everytime they come up against a team of part-time guys who are getting paid peanuts and for whom football is little other than a bit of fun. Everybody can be blamed for this, manager and players alike. Results like yesterday's are certainly not going to do anything to bring back the support, which is definitely falling off at a quite alarming rate. And it is frustrating to see Liam hitting the net fairly regularly for the Pars...
  15. My uncle, who used to take me to the matches, usually took off his watch and gave it to me outside the entrance to the boozer. He told me he'd be back by 2:30. I waited and waited at the door to the pub(s), and if we were lucky we got into Firhill for the last 5 minutes of the 1st half. I'm still not sure why he gave me his watch, as it was a useless thing to do. And I never got to ask him, as he literally ended up a very young late uncle. Anyway, he stopped doing it when I turned 30.
  16. There wouldn't be just a faint hint of cynicism there, by any chance?
  17. About 30 years ago Glaswegian rock girl Maggie Bell turned up briefly at oor hoose at Hogmanay. She left pretty sharpish, though.
  18. "Scottish second division club Partick Thistle...." Ah well, I suppose that's what happens when you've been floundering around in the lower reaches for years. Aw naw, mair fish puns on the way, I fear. Edited to add: I think McGowan's the best loan player we've had since Santala. We should get rid of 5 others and sign him.
