  1. The way things are going covidwise, you'll have owt to boycott
  2. Interview with the manager in Glasgow Times & Glasgow Herald. His views on the young players Sena & Blair Lyons are good to see. Talked about the "togetherness" not there before.
  3. I'd love the academy players to come through into the first team. Good for the academy and good for the club. Will the academy players actually have much competitive football this season. This season we have 27 league games, and must be top at the half way stage onwards in case the league is called. We must use every resource we can. We have 4 modern apprentices. Luke Scullion, keeper. Bradley Renfrew and Andy Rodden, defenders. Dean Watson in midfield. If we get a keeper injury or suspension, will Luke come into the squad? How many of the other three can fit in? I'm all for utilising resources, but this season especially, we do need to be practical.
  4. Nice to have a thread getting back to the football
  5. Annan played in England also in the not too distant past. As 1876 alluded to in the original post, Queens Park obviously were successful in the early years of English football. I'm not aware of any unsuccessful applicants.
  6. So how many tourists do you think will be travelling to Rio de Janerio anytime in the next couple of years?
  7. Keiran Wright has had four loan spells:- The whole of 16/17 with Gala Fairydean. Jan to May 18 with Albion Rovers where he got 12 games. Albion Rov were, if I recollect properly, relegated from League 1 to League 2 that season. (I think that he had joined a sinking ship, though.) August 18 to January 19 with Raith Rovers where he got 7 games. Jan 20 to April 20 with Alloa, where he got 4 games. A previous poster said that some Alloa fans were not impressed. He has however been capped at Scotland U17 & U19 level, and is currently in the U21 squad. Keiran is 20, and has had good experience with different teams. If his confidence is good, he'll provide a challenge to Jamie Sneddon. I think both will do well with a reasonable defence in front of them. Rhys Breen has been with Rangers for all of his career. He came back May 19, having been out for three years with a hip injury. I think Rhys is a gamble, especially with the number of artificial pitches in the Division, and also in the Betfred Cup group. If he plays in the Betfred Cup, we'll have a good idea what we have for the season. Rhys is also 20, so for him it will also be an important loan spell. I'm usually an optimist, and I do have my fingers crossed for them both! Paradoxically having a shorter League season could be a help for both of them, as they need to make the most of opportunities offered, and can succeed if they get a run of good games, without it becoming a long trek to the end line. A League winners medal for both would be a joy.
  8. Faulty Towers food bill for a couple of months period is going to be vastly reduced! However you need to be in it to win it. Well done
  9. Looks like we'll be seeing Tommy Robson at Firhill on 10 0ctober in the Betfred Cup. He signed for Queens Park. That will be an interesting game. They have had a busy transfer window, and signed some reasonable players.
  10. I see from the Dundee Courier that Wraith Rovers' megamouth deceitful chairman Bill Clark has stood down. Perhaps he's got a job on the Trump presidential campaign team. His (imo) talent for being economical with the truth and lack of integrity will be of use there! MacLennan; Doncaster; Hewitson; McGregor; Cameron; McKinnon ; Tatters et al still to go! Keep football tidy!!
  11. Ah the wonders of Jagzone! Looking forward to the new additions. The start of the season is edging ever closer, with our Betfred game on 7 October coming up quick.
  12. Seeing as Doncaster is looking for permission to call leagues when half of the games are played, we'll need to not only get maximum points, but score lots of goals. We cannot afford any slow start this season.
  13. Meybe a fleet of four or five of these RN mini subs would suffice. They say that submariners do have a certain biscuity smell.....Not that youwould notice with Clype fans
  14. At first I wondered why a company dealing with the USA considered it beneficial to sponsor the Thistle. On reading Chris Edwards case study on the OS it all became clear, and made sense. It reminded me of Tony Glavin, Ronnie's younger brother. He was a friend of my younger brother and they were in the same class at school. Tony went through the Queens Park youth set up, and played for a couple of seasons for the senior side in the mid to late 70's. He then went to the States and played for Philadelphia Fury for a couple of seasons. He then played for other clubs, and moved into team coaching. The final club he coached, St Louis Ambush, sacked him despite him being part owner! Aptly named club. Tony did have a spell with Hamilton Accies in 1979. Ronnie went to the States to play for St Louis Steamers in 1986, I think it was. I don't think he stayed long!! I wish our new sponsor well and hope that their partnership with the Jags goes well.
  15. Donnie did become a team physio after retiring. He also drew the short straw and coached Dee Hepburn for the little bit of football skill needed for her role in the film Gregory's Girl. The club got a mention in some nationwide award ceremony as I recall. Perhaps the experience trying to coach someone not naturally a football player put him off coaching! I'm sure a current players look at the talent pool available and say "Not for me!" Happy Birthday Donnie. Many happy memories of the late sixties and early seventies for me! ps just checked. "Gregory's Girl" was made in 1981 - above still applies to our talent pool for recent seasons.
  16. As long as he doesn't develop too much in the Betfred game against us!!
  17. I agree. I think it is Dale Keenan, and he did (as you say) come on as a sub that game. Stu the Jag, time to confirm Jaggy's shout?
  18. Gary Fraser, a 1 - 1 draw away at Dundee Premier League on 16 August 2014. Fraser scored in the game Fox sent off after clashing with McGowan. ???
  19. I like it, M'Lady. Very good. I only hope that their Magic Brick isn't the one I got in April! I thought that the only thing behind that was the Firhill Basin! They might need an Ark if the waters come, and that new libellous banner will be needed for use as a sail!! Bring on Colin Weir's estate completion, so we can all move on - some literally!
  20. Danny Devine has signed a two year contract with ICT.
  21. Wild guess -- David Wilson. Friendly? against Morton away in 2016? He did go on loan to Stranraer on loan, though. Lots of question marks in there!
  22. They have just signed three players. Gregor Buchanan, formerly of Falkirk; Joe McKee from Dumbarton and they have resigned Dan Pybus. Lets hope they don't have any pre or early season injuries!!
  23. Steve has said that he's been offered lower cash every year the older he gets, and short term contracts don't help. He has a partner and two young children to look after, so the offer of a new job and long term career enticed him to retire - although he may play part time sometime in the future. He also said that coaching jobs in Scotland don't pay much. Personally, I can't blame him for retiring and starting anew. We should wish him well. With so many players released by clubs last season, there will be a few other players leaving and getting jobs outside the football industry, and that should be a concern. Most clubs cannot afford to offer much more than a two or three year contract for excellent players. Rangers have been an exception in recent years, in offering relatively long term contracts to their players. Most clubs are not in this position, or willing to take this risk. It will be interesting to see who joins the Jags for next season. But long term, the prospects for footballers doesn't look that promising.
  24. Found it eventually. Third player at the signing was somebody called Alan Hansen! The book (albeit printed in 1976) does state that the Raisbeck banner is in the club's possession. No mention of the McGregor banner.
  25. I was under the impression that the club had possession of this old brake club banner, and its been in their possession for quite some time. There was another brake club banner with an image of Alex McGregor on it. Don't know what became of it. I seem to remember the Raisbeck banner being mentioned in "The Jags" book, published at the time of our centenary. I do still have a copy of this book, but I've not seen it for many years!. I'll need to look it out. Signed by Alan Rough, (the late) John Craig and someone else I can't remember.
