ian_mac
How much is that going to cost and how far up the list of priorities do you think this is for the club? The books took a tanking this season as we all know. Unless someone else pays for this, then it won't be happening.
Hankey
Ross County also plan to do the same the season after next.
Mr Bunny
now that Celtic have been granted permission for a 2600 standing area , and Dundee Utd will be doing the same, can we now look at doing tan with the south stand please ? Don't we already have a standing area? Anyway as said above, what about the costs? It will cost to put new terracing in and no doubt fans will expect to play less for standing and we lose more that way. It's not worth it unless we suddenly double our support or get a sugar daddy who will pay for it.
Richard Nixon
As the years go by, the decision to completely demolish the old terracing to leave a grass-strewn eyesore looks more and and more inspirational.
Mediocre Pundit
In an ideal world we'd make a replica of the North Stand at the City End and make them both safe standing. Probably make them both a bit smaller and slightly elevated (like at Accies) too. And then we could redevelop the Main Stand into a stand like at Dumbarton only with more/better internal facilities. Capacity of around 11k; 8k seated and 3k standing. And it would look cool and lend itself to sensible segregation. All we need is someone with a few spare million who thinks the best use of it is to invest in seats no one will sit in and terracing no one will stand at.

potty trained
I'd be interested to know how much it would cost cheaper than seats Not sure it rail standing would be cheaper than seats. Rail standing contains seats, as a art of the fixture, for starters.
Mediocre Pundit
I'm sure I read somewhere that the average cost of a seat in a basic stand is £90 while a rail seat is £125. The figures may be out but they were definitely more expensive.
sick in the basin
Safe standing at minimal cost = main stand enclosure - best view, low cost option
lady-isobel-barnett
I wouldn't like to see the South End turn into some sort of homage to Raydale Pk. There would have to be some serious elevation to any "terracing" to be practical. Even if funding was available I doubt this would be a goer. And I'm one who is all for allowing safe standing. Diego
What I don't like about this "safe standing" chat is it implies current standing areas (including the north stand) are dangerous. There's plenty of traditional terracing in EU countries with strict safety laws that is deemed to be perfectly safe.
Richard Nixon
Well, all standing is safe, so long as the stadiums are built for purpose and stewarded correctly.
Paddy Thistle
As part of a wider discussion Ideally we would sell Firhill move to a new purpose built ground at the other side of the canal , that would encompass both seated and safe standing area's and meet all our needs including a reduced crowd capacity As that would be a cheaper option than trying to redevelop the main stand , a new city centre end and the JH stand. Tob Jag
I hate to be a party pooper but . . . . . When the announcement that we all needed seated stadiums happened years ago then we used up ALL available £'s to ensure we met the criteria and that in my honest opinion led to us having no money to invest on the park and we slid down the tables and nearly out of existence!!! So, lets be careful and spend WISELY!!!!!!! OTIG
Sinistar
How much would it realistically cost to build new terracing in the south stand with the new safe seats installed? Just curious.
Tob Jag
I just went onto my facebook to find the same story about why or where my fears are based. . . . http://partickthistl....blogspot.co.uk Do we need to spend the money on a team to watch and to keep us in the top flight? . . . . or. . . . do we want somewhere to stand? If we're going into fantasy land, we should go back in time twenty years, sell off Firhill to Asda or Tesco, buy up a whole bunch of that unwanted land down by the Clyde waterfront, build a new stadium near our spiritual home of Meadowside ... so now, in 2015, with the rebuilding and regeneration of that whole area that's proceeding apace, we can sell off the surplus land for megabucks and have a whole new local fanbase to attract!
