Just back from an unseasonably warm Perth. Immense and morale boosting win today after our last honking performance against St Johnstone. As on Wednesday, no failures. Archie's substitutions were shrewd and ultimately with the introduction of Amoo won us the game.

The big fn German - didn't have much to do but dealt competently with shots and crosses.

Booth - slowly but surely getting back to his old self

Lindsay - perhaps his best game in a Thistle shirt today. Got forward effectively and looked comfortable defending.

Barton - just that bit gallus. The Son of Shaggy nickname could be a keeper....

Devine - competent, but keep yer hands down of its the new Willie Kinniburgh tag for you

Elliott - ran, ran, ran and then ran some more. The Jarrow Arrow is never going to be the most cultured footballer, but he loves being out in that shirt and was pretty effective today

Welsh - immaculate today. Moved the ball about to where it was going to hurt St Johnstone most, great free kick for Dools' goal and his corners improved a bit in the second half.

Osman - like Booth, beginning to show what we know he can do. No silly stuff and strong defensively in midfield. And that goal....

Edwards - bloody hell. So much energy, but tricky and pacy with it. While I think Welsh and Osman did most of the holding defensive work in midfield, Ryan's runs and changes of ace and direction started a log of our attacks

Azeez - beginning to look like a much better fit with the team. Put himself about and probably should have had a goal, but his main strength is pulling the opposition defence out of shape with his pace and strength to open up space.

Doolan - scored a goal and always tracked back. Few half chances and things that didn't quite come off. Really, we're spoiled to have him - does everything a good striker should do and then so much more. 92nd goal for the club.

Subs:

Erskine - looked really sharp when he came on and pushed up to unnerve the Saints defence. Great substitution at a time when it looked like the game could go either way.

Amoo - ! On for about 5 minutes, he was so direct and strong that it really pepped up the balls coming from midfield. Great run and skills to set up Osman's goal.

Onwards and very much upwards. I'm away for some beer!

That's some of the most composed football I've ever seen from a Jags' team. And it stems from our new found security at the back with big Adam Barton. Certainly "son of Shaggy" is a great name for him and there is a bit of Alan Hansen in there too.

Today's performance really makes you wonder where some of our injured are going to fit in.

All very exciting!

Just watched the highlights on Alba. Barton looks as if he doesn't break sweat. Looks so composed on the ball. Thought Welsh find' t waste a ball and Edwards makes some great runs. Fantastic to see Elliott back. Great for him and the club after all his injury woes. As has been mentioned it looks as if Devine is comfortable with this formation, having the security of Barton behind him. What a turnaround. Kudos to Archie for that. Now, what's Shrewsbury' s number again???

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but I'm getting whiffs of last season about this team. Start slow, tell and then the results start coming. I'll be honest - I've had enough sh*t times at Mcdiarmid to put me off ever going back there - but a combination of a lift, childcare and an unfeasible sense of optimism sent me there. And that's one of the best Thistle performances I've seen in some time, and certainly atones for the 2-0 defeat earlier this season. With what we've got on the pitch and in management, we can really do something this season - next 3 games are Aberdeen, Mwell away and Govan2012. I wouldn't be willing to bet against 5 points out of that. Thistle go 2nd at Ross County 23rd December as a Christmas present? Like I said, I'm not getting ahead of myself....

Not saying we will grab upwards of 6 points from that lot but we certainly have nothing to fear from those three games. Be wonderful to win the next two home games especially!

Saw the highlights on BBC Alba. What a performance - not a single failure and again Barton was the outsdanding player on the pitch. He was confident enough in himself and his team mates to go forward with the ball, and that confidence spread to the rest of the team. Welsh, Edwards, Amoo and later Erskine all ran directly at opponents, which made a workmanlike St Johnstone team look pedestrian. That confidence and skill in defence and midfield makes the strikers' job so much easier, and should make the rest of the season something to really enjoy.

By all accounts Barton looks like some player...... but didn't he seem a bit lazy at letting their player through for their goal yesterday?

I've bn impressed with Barton the lady couple of games

I do think had it been devine or Gordon getting turned like that for the saints goal then theyed be getting ripped a new one on here

You been on the bevy Saint?....lol

Agreed, though sometimes you have to hold your hands up to a fine bit of skill from the Saints player that turned him. Similar to Amoo at the same end at the end

Sometimes you just have to say well played to the opponent, an amazing turn to lose Adam from the Saints man.

Yes, good skill by the St Johnstone player; I meant that Barton just seemed to give up once the guy got past him. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe he didn't want to risk giving away a penalty.

I don't think you can really talk up Amoo's skill for the winner and talk down the St J goal. Both managers from a defensive point of view won't be pleased how these goals were lost. Doubly so due to the circumstances (more or less from a kick off and not seeing a game out). But the overriding factor is both goals wouldn't have been scored without two excellent pieces of skill.
