Train To Livingston

The walk is awful! Half an hour and so many roundabouts! My advice is just book a supporters bus far easier! This comes from me and I get the train everywhere! Just a horrible away day! Worse than Airdrie and that really is saying something!

Would agree as the stations are either side of the town....livingston north is on the edinburgh via bathgate line and livingston south is on the glasgow central to edinburgh line

The bathgate line has 4 trains during the daytime, the shotts line has 2

Hmmm okay thanks, I shall consult those I am going with then cheers. Yeah it would seem livingston is one big shopping centre!

Actually I remember a challenge cup game a few years back at Airdrie and the police escorted us from the station then stopped us and filmed us, quite needless.

Quite right, LMJ. It really is new town hell. It's maybe a 30 min walk from either station (North or South) but each is a soul-crushing venture into the 9th circle (or should that be roundabout?) of the underworld.

Fair play to those attending. Worst away day in Scotland - horrible, horrible town, devoid of any redeeming features whatsoever.

Yip. Cant argue with that except to say that once inside the ground it's no that bad.

Think if I lived in Glasgow I'd drink in the Town and get the last train practical from Queens St and hopefully share a taxi to the ground.

In true SigeSige fashion Livingston should be deducted points for blandness.

I see this treead has descended into the usual Livi bashing that goes on on this forum.

To compare Livi to a real shithole like Airdrie is frankly laughable.

Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing the all conquering Jags playing a short walk away from my house.

As one who lives in Airdrie (only part time these days thankfully) and who has worked in livi and been to several games at whatever their stadium is called these days...you are right to be indignant. It's fine lines tho Grant, livi has piss poor transport links but good(ish) amenities. It's the reverse with airdrie, but I'd imagine airdrie just wins in relation to which is the better of the 2 away days in a lesser of 2 evils kinda way ;)

The reason people say it is because you always come back with the same passionate defence. I knew before I opened this thread that you would be involved. As for caling Airdrie a dive (it is), don't throw stones in glass houses. The best bit about Livingston is leaving.

Has anybody took the bus before? The x15 goes to livi.

Kids go free on the train, is that why you like it so much? :P

I love kids there just wonderful! :)

I would say book a supporters bus for the simple reason you are straight in and straight out. No need to spend any longer than is necessary in this dire little place.

The 2 places are dire, but Livingston as an away day is horrible but I guess living there you wouldn't know that as you said it is a short walk from your house! I even prefer Morton away to Livingston, that really is saying something!

It isn't Livingston bashing, it just people sharing their opinions on what they feel is the worst place to be in Scotland on a Saturday at 3pm.

When I read the title of this thread, I though it was related to the What Can We Do To Improve Sport in Scotland thread. I was looking forward to reading how you were planning to jog all the way to Livvy

Kind of off at a tangent, but what ever happened to that guy who DID run to a lot of the away games. About 10 years ago I was cycling through to Livvy (as I'm doing the morro) but my feeling-quite-pleased-with-myselfness was totally busted when I passed that dude just outside Bathgate at 2:30! He had run all the way there.

I also seem to remember one time we were at Alloa and the same fella was there with only one shoe. He was getting a bit of a slagging on OLAS that night until he came on himself and explained that he had ran all the way there (must be, what, 35 miles?) and, while taking a shortcut across some dodgy tributary of the Forth, had lost the shoe when it had got stuck in the mud.

What a hero!

If you're getting the train to Livingston North then it's worth finding out where the train came from. The trains from Milngavie are pretty quick, only stopping a couple of times once they get out of Glasgow, but the ones from Helensburgh stop everywhere and can add a fair bit to the journey time. The buses are OK, and go past the stadium (look out for the floodlights or Lidl, the stadium is pretty much invisible from the road if you're not looking for it). Bit of a rip off though.

On that note, get back to Livingston North ASAP, because the trains back to Milngavie finish quite early, and from experience I can tell you that you meet all sorts on the Helensburgh train.

Finally, don't be temped to go to the big shopping centre. It's much further away than it looks on any map, and I got incredibly lost there last season after walking 30 minutes to find a place to eat.

Good luck!
