  1. On a more positive note, just worked out that last night was the 100th consecutive competitive Partick Thistle match I have attended (if you can call 5-0 competitive!). My last "break" was to attend a memorial service for a friend which coincided with St Johnstone away in the League on 19th August 2017. Previous to that I had clocked up another century plus, in which by some strange coincidence, the 100th fixture was also away at Celtic Park, though rather more cheerful as Ade Azeez made my night by scoring the equaliser!
  2. First, fourth and fifth goals were disappointingly soft concessions. Both Cammy Palmer and Tommy Robson worked very hard, put in some good tackles and showed some bravery on the ball. Was particularly pleased for Robson after his early substitution at Arbroath. My normal preference would be to have Sneddon in goals, but no complaints about Scott Fox tonight. Made at least 3 excellent saves.
  3. Did you see the fantastic huge spider brooch Lady Hale was wearing yesterday when she delivered her damning indictment on Boris Johnson's ill conceived attempt to prorogue Parliament? I thought that she was really rubbing it in. A sort of judicial bench equivalent of over-celebrating a goal in front of the opposition fans in order to rile them up! A few secondary questions: Is Lady Hale a closet Queens Park fan? How would recent history have unfolded differently if our Prime Minister were not Boris Johnson, but Maurice Johnston? Will our own Lady Isobel Barnett soon be elevated to the bench and does she have any killer brooches to display?
  4. Will not make any assumptions until the Club confirm the position, but it would be really good to be able to sing "the 12 days of Archie" this Christmas. Really missed it last year.
  5. Love the "commentary" on this from a disgruntled Jags fan. Get that man on to the coaching staff!
  6. A lot of very good practical wisdom on this thread already. To avoid starting individual "likes" and running out, can I give all contributors thus far a communal like?
  7. Totally nondescript second half. Team just chucked it.
  8. First 25 Cole and Kakay looked like players but then dragged down by general malaise.
  9. First 25 minutes was quite encouraging. Some good attacking play, though too much of it out wide. Dunfermline scored a pretty good goal (though marking and Fox could have been better). At that point it was at worst an evenly matched game where we were unfortunate to be a goal down. No reason for utter collapse that followed. Dunfermline could have scored again numerous times before we let their player walk through our defence for the second. Last 10 minutes gave slight cause for optimism. From John Lambie Stand could not understand how we did not score that chance which looked like a tap in from here.
  10. Totally agree. Talks like a human being rather than an automaton.
  11. Just received the Law Society Journal for September 2019, and turned the pages eagerly to read an article on page 22 headed "Too much for one person: the GC role today". The analysis, though couched in David Brent Speak, seems to sum up Gary Caldwell pretty accurately: "While the vision of GC as partner-guardian and statesman is both compelling and necessary, the current reality for GC is quite different. Crushed under a daily avalanche of role overload, cost pressures, recurring litigation, major deals and periodic crises, and facing many challenges brought on by the twin revolutions, GC has little time to figure out how to build an outstanding football team or move toward an ideal state" PS The only word I have changed is "football" for "legal". GC is apparently a general counsel.
  12. Can I have a guess (and also give you an excuse)? You had just listed Cammy Palmer. So your subconscious mind suggested Cammy Bell.
  13. Not worth opening a special thread, and this seemed the most appropriate existing thread. I know nothing about the takeover, tensions in the team or the future of the manager. But I do know that Boris Johnson and Maurice Johnston have one thing in common, apart from similar sounding names. They both fell foul of the Scottish courts!
  14. Agree as regards Elgin. Until Edinburgh City and Cove Rangers annoyingly sneaked into the league, Elgin's ground was the only one where I had not seen Thistle play. Having said that, I "tidied up" Montrose yesterday as my only previous experience there was a non-competitive pre-season friendly. Another interesting possible tie would be against Glenavon, whose goalkeeper is our old friend Jonny Tuffey. At what stage of the competition, do all fans attending receive free Caramel Wafers?
  15. We have the makings of a "Sick in the Basin" League. Any other potential entrants?
  16. Kakay’s JagZone interview gave the impression that he was making his way back to fitness after injury so might not be fit to start for a few weeks. So OK is not OK.
  17. If you listen to the podcast mentioned a few posts earlier, you will realise that Paul Goodwin is a longstanding and committed Thistle fan. He revealed his best memory as attending the 1971 League Cup Final and spoke of Gerry Britton as King of Spain in a way you would only do if steeped in Thistle culture. Worth a listen. Obviously lots of relevant experience and a calm and intelligent speaker.
  18. As is Oliver Kahn......and Owen Koyle
  19. And (eventually) Scott Paterson and Nathan Eccleston
  20. Socrates: "I neither know nor think that I know" (in Plato, Apology 21d). Manuel: "I know nothing, Mr Fawlty" (in Fawlty Towers, Cleese/Booth)
  21. Are AJ and I the only Partick Thistle fans in the whole world who are never in the know? It's easier on the brain just to turn up and support whoever is playing for Thistle (and whoever they are owned by) on any given day.
