  1. I think the work you do is absolutely outstanding. Facts, figures, statistics galore and fascinating reminders of our rich history. Many, MANY thanks to everyone who makes the Jags' Archive compulsive reading...
  2. The transfer I most regret was losing Joe McBride to motherwell in 1962. The following season the Jags finished third in the league. With McBride's goals we would probably have finished second and who knows, maybe even have been crowned champions but for his loss and the Great Freeze which interrupted our season. Joe went on to score around 60 plus goals in 88 games before signing for Jock Stein's Celtic where he would have been a member of the Lisbon Lions but for injury. Whose departure broke your heart?
  3. My heartfelt thanks to my fellow Jags who took the time to read my witterings. Yesterday was a lovely reminder of exactly how much thistle means to so many of us..
  4. Excuse my self indulgence but having attended estadio firhill since 1956 I hope you will bear with me. I have been struggling with a vile illness for three years now so I don't meander up the garscube road with the fleet footedness of my youth. Yesterday afternoon my family (all of whom except my wife are Ayr united fans) treated me to an afternoon in hospitality. There I met my old pal Denis mcqude plus countless other jags' fans, each and every one a delight. But what makes us unique? People like Robert Reid, players like daft Denis, and dear, old Molly stallon who ran firhill during various regimes. Owing to illness my 68 year fascination with firhill may be drawing to a close. But, by jiminee, how I have loved my near ,seven decades at estadio firhill. And so, to those who follow after, there will be ups (precious few) and downs (far too many) but the maryhill Magyars are unique and however it came about we are so, so lucky to be part of the jags' family Again, excuse me, I am approaching 74'and I had a few drinks in hospitality. I thank you one and all for reading this and, as we used to say in bygone eras... FIRHILL FOR THRILLS...
  5. Think the furthest east we've ever played must remain Jakarta in 1972...
  6. Oh, no, is that our jimmy on Celtic colours?
  7. I thought Jimmy bone but couldn't recall him ever boasting such glowing locks...
  8. Horn is the lad who scored a hat-trick for the under 18s in recent 3-2 win against Ayr at Somerset...
  9. Checking the records Tommy Gibb won a single under-23 cap. Joe McBride was a terrific player. Arrived from Luton town in a swap ,(I think) for Jim Fleming and had a tremendous scoring record at every club for whom he played. Would have been a Lisbon Lion but for injury...
  10. As a kid I was crestfallen but proud when my jags' heroes such as sandy brown, Dougie baird, Tommy gibb and Andy kerr all moved to the English first division. I thought that they were great players and it was nice to know someone else thought the same.
  11. Lovely stuff, Kenny. A worthy tribute...
  12. MANY thanks everyone. Friends and family know to avoid the score all day then around 2pm on Sunday, I pour myself a generous gin and tonic and watch the Jags 'live' on jagzone. I WILL be back because I do miss the banter. Thanks again for all your good wishes ..
  13. And, indeed many thanks to all the members of our jags' family who have added their support. Believe me, it means a lot...
  14. Thank you, Jim. Your kind words have perked me up no end.....
