  1. A gentleman and a gentle man. As so many have said, the start of the game often rudely interrupted his hilarious hospitality anecdotes. Many of which I shamelessly reproduced in the pages of the Telegraph. My thoughts with his adoring family...
  2. MANY thanks. It was all so simple even for me. Google thistle archive and Hey Joe! There it was. As a retired journalist I fully appreciate the research involved in your amazing enterprise. You bring back so many golden memories of the 1950s and onwards. Thanks again...
  3. I'm sorry but I don't belong to ANY social media thingies. How can I access your wonderful archive when the site closes. I apologise if this is going over old ground..
  4. Wonderful still photo. Loved the way they cleared the lines leaving the pitch covered in snow. Always enjoyed a snowy Firhill usually with an orange football...
  5. The Great Unpredictables...The Coupon Busters...The Maryhill Magyars...what a team. I really should know better after 65 years of supporting The Jolly Jags. No matter what happens next, our defence over the last 180 plus minutes has been utterly brilliant. We frequently discuss our great forwards on this site but the lads who conceded but one goal against the two best teams in the league stand as tall as Jimmy Davidson, sandy brown, Jackie Campbell, Alan Hansen and so many memorable others. The sun is in the sky this morning, The Jags are in the playoffs, and I feel G..R..E..A..T. I love all you thistle fans out there ..
  6. Reading my earlier post again, I realise how insensitive it was given the reason behind the closure. As someone who is terminally ill I can be unintentionally self centered at times and apologise from the bottom of my heart if I caused any offence to those involved. It was a crass post and I am deeply embarrassed .
  7. Believe me, I found knightswood more than sufficiently challenging...
  8. I wonder if Johnny Gibson led a wee celebration between games? probably like you LJ, I was still celebrating a week and more later...
  9. I was raised over on the south side except for my holidays in Knightswood. My locsl course was Royal Deaconsbank. Still have fond memories of glanderstone(?) Drive...
  10. Odd Fellows you summed up Thistle perfectly.. As a youngster in the 60s, I knew us as The Great Unpredictables whilst my father termed us The Coupon Busters. Capable of beating Barcelona one week (well...maybe not Barca but you get the idea) but certainly capable of losing to brechin city the next. Yes, we are infuriating...yes this is far, far FAR from being the best Jags' team that I have seen in over 60 years...yes, Firhill does not resemble the wonderfully atmospheric stadium of my youth (although the new breed of youngsters are doing their best). But, by heck, am I delighted that I ignored the incessant encouragement of my wee pals to support Rangers or Celtic? Thistle have been part of my life and I love them for it...
  11. Jaggernaut. Questioned bannigan's commitment above. . I agree. Does he REALLY want to play for our club? Apart from kicking anyone who doesn't move, what does he bring in terms of skill or respect for the club? But what.a result... !!!
  12. I used to go my holidays to my gran and grandpa in glanderstone drive, knightswood. Loved the wee 9 hole golf course when I was about 10. Thistle won the European cup many times by beating the brick built bomb shelter in the back garden. By heck The Drum produced so so many great footballers...
  13. You'right LJ From what I read his wife and children came in for vile verbal abuse. I have no thoughts on the identity of the new coach but I do believe we need a Scott brown type to kick a few backsides...
