  1. Fully realise that when the OF are involved all rule books go out the window, but if both parties have agreed and signed a contract to cover SPL matches, Can Sky just walk away because one particular team is no longer in the league? Surely contract law would apply somehow. Agree with other posters that this is going to be a missed opportunity for Scottish Football if the beaks don't get their act together and even out the playing field. The scum will unfortunately still rise to the top through sheer weight of numbers through the turnstiles giving them a financial advantage, but if the TV money is distributed equatibly with prize money allocated to final league positions, that would at least give other clubs a fighting chance of competing. A ratio rule for wages against income would also help ensure that clubs were operating within normal business models and not cheating by living outwith their means. Edited to add: Being in darkest Wilts, all news of Scotland is deeply diluted, so having just been catching up and now realise that it's a new contract due this summer, so they can walk away.
  2. As I choose not to have Sky, I thought I'd be able to watch this on the PC, but even BBC Radio Scotland Sportsound has been cut off "for contractual reasons". Effin disgrace.
  3. Good luck, Paul, sorry to see you leave. But had to havr a laugh at this quote from the Glaswegian - "And it now looks as though the Leith club have beaten Aberdeen, St Johnstone and Morton to the Jags star's signature". However, at lease they are showing a bit of ambition if that's true!
  4. The 3 that immediately sprang to mind all have a Bankies connection - Chic Charnley before he joined us, Jimmy Caskie and Owen Coyle. Hated but admired - Morton's Andy Ritchie - scored one of the best free kicks I've ever seen against us at Cappielow past Roughie.
  5. Really, really never ever thought I'd say that it's time to go from Firhill, but I think we all have to face it that it's a huge area ripe for redevelopment, but the financial climate at the moment doesn't make that easy. Where to go? With only paying weekend visits to Glasgow, I'm not familiar with whats left on Clydeside, but wasn't there some space near the new transport museum on the other bank of the Kelvin? That would be great imo - Thistle actually back in Partick with a 7000 mixed seated/standing bowl shaped stadium - smaller version of these plans (20K far too ambitious for the Gas currently averaging 6k - will football never learn?) http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/page/StadiumRegeneration/0,,10328~2373698,00.html- with a train/bus/subway hub closeby. (Downside - having to mix with the manky mob heading across the river, but as they don't play at 3:00 on a Saturday much, shouldn't be too much of an issue) Or if staying at Firhill, keep the historical main stand fascia, demolish the rest and rebuild as above. Well, we all have dreams!
  6. Got the email below this morning and piss up and brewery came to mind! But it's not a PTFC fault thankfully (Garthland's mix-up)and as an exile, quite looking forward to seeing the Herald calendar as well - sort of BOGOF for me. Hi Jim Unfortunately there has been a mix up with your calendars and you will receive copies of The Glasgow Herald Version, please accept them with our compliments and we will post the Thistle ones to you today.
  7. If this had been players from certain other Glasgow teams and had appeared on the back page of the Daily Retard, I would confidently predict that many of those defending the actions would have opinions which would make those already expressed in this thread somewhat hypocritical. It's not the joke I have a problem with, it's that it's in the public domain by people representing something I love and I do have a problem with that. No problem for me if they hadn't being wearing the colours. By the way, being 400 miles away doesn't make yesterday debacle any easier to take!
  8. For sheer consistency for me it has to be Jackie Campbell. Skill - it has to be Charnley Best player ever that I've seen - Maradona. June 1979 - Scorchin' day - Tartan Army was shouting "Ar-gen-tina" over and over after the game and they had to come out for a lap of honour. Maradona's first international goal. Best defeat ever.
  9. They must have fell out this year, after all those "coincidences" when they had the same kit manufacturer and sponsors
  10. Would be well p'd off if it was a game that I'd already bought my Saturday morning flights up for!
  11. Think Rowson probably best fits in with the "Nomad" ethos as he's probably the one who's had most moves? Happy to be proved wrong on that though.
  12. As already posted in the Nomads forum, I'm really disappointed by the take-up. LLD informs us that from over 100 names on the Nomads list, there's only 13 contributors. C'mon folks - get yir erses in gear!
  13. C'mon folks - when we did this first time round, we sponsored two jerseys, last year - I'm pretty sure we made the target for one jersey with money to spare donated to the Jags. Realise things are tight these days, but didn't think we'd struggle like this. Is this because some nomads have donated to the wearethistle fund, and (much as I want to see a nomad sponsored shirt) should we be thinking about either sponsoring other bits of kit or just combining with the wearethistle fund? Pretty disappointed about this.
  14. Eager to contribute to Nomads sponsorship. Most definitely think that we should try a maintain some sort of presence despite the loss of momentum. But there is, IMO, a positive point in that the club stepped up to provide us with live text updates which negated the need for the Nomads show. Although I do miss the running comments from the Nomads!
  15. Absolutely YES! Us winning either of the "major" cups in today's economic meltdown would be an achievement of immense proportions. In the last 20 years, only on 5 occasions has it been won by a team outside of the manky mob. Of the current SPL teams, St Mirren, Dunfermline, St Johnstone, ICT and Kilmarnock have never won the League Cup. The only reason for me for it to be not as good is that Dad wouldn't be with me.
  16. It's not been 15 seasons since he left, he left in 2003 and was at Motherwell before joining The Jags. I was gutted when he left, especially in the circumstances as Motherwell should not have been allowed to sign players IMO. Anyway, remember the last game in 2000/2001 and he scored what I think was his only goal for us against Stenny in a 4-0 home win and he went nuts, throwing his shirt off. The POTY dance was that night and he was leading the singing. Had a picture taken that night with my mates and Paul McGrillen(RIP) with the trophy.
  17. I was 16 as well then. As the wife doesn't read this forum, I'm hoping I'm safe in saying that 23rd October 1971 was the best day in my life! Wish I'd kept my scrapbook. Still,I have all the programmes from the whole league cup run.
  18. August 1970 - Stirling Albion 2 Jags 3. Memorable as my first time allowed to make my own way by train to an away game, but also for my first sight of the mighty Denis McQuade. Don't remember much else of the match apart from Denis' goal and mazy mesmerising runs and I got his autograph. August 1971 - Jags 4 Arbroath 0. First match after promotion, ok so it wasn't the welcome back to the First Division (Now that WAS a day to remember with Gibby running riot against the h*ns), Iirc 0-0 at halftime, but it was a great 2nd half performance and at that time little did we know how it would end. Also remember that 3-3 St Mirren game - absolute cracker. And for all the wrong reasons, being beat at home 0-1 by Stenny (1999?) after leaving Chippenham at 4 in the morning to drive up.
  19. http://news.nationalpost.com/2011/06/16/photos-riots-fire-destruction-after-vancouvers-loss/ Even the manky mobs' fans aren't this sad. I hope never to be proved wrong about that statement!
  20. Knew about it - did it in history at school, but didn't realise it was just as bad as portrayed in that documentary. Population went from 40000 to 2000 because so many had to be moved as so many houses bombed. Don't know if this is just folklore, but my parents told me that the bombers mistook Great Western Road for the Clyde and were aiming for the shipyards on both sides of the river, so hit the tenements instead.
  21. At the moment: 1. Swindon Town (16.0 m) County Ground 2. Bristol Rovers (20.5 m) (my surrogate Jags) Memorial Stadium 3. Bristol City (22.1 m) (the surrogate OF!) Ashton Gate 4. Cheltenham Town (30.6 m) The Abbey Business Stadium 5. Yeovil Town (43.1 m) Huish Park from the auld hoose in Scotstoun the site gives this result - 1. Rangers (2.6 m) Ibrox Stadium 2. Partick Thistle (3.3 m) Firhill Stadium 3. St Mirren (3.4 m) St Mirren Park 4. Queens Park (5.5 m) Hampden Park 5. Celtic (6.1 m) Celtic Park 6. Dumbarton (9.0 m) Strathclyde Homes Stadium 7. Clyde (13.0 m) Broadwood Stadium 8. Hamilton Academical (13.4 m) New Douglas Park 9. Albion Rovers (13.4 m) Cliftonhill Stadium 10. Greenock Morton (15.0 m) Cappielow Park Couldnae live wi that thought so checked and it's is a load of keech as google maps makes it 4.6 driving miles to Firhill, 4.7 to Castle Greyskull so thats what I'm sticking to! And 15 miles to Greenock means swimming it. and from where I was born in Springburn it's easly Firhill.
  22. Did have a season Ticket for Bristol Rovers for a few seasons and still go to about every second home game. Will never be the same as watching the Jags - even the disappointment isn't as good! Now needing to do better than Walsall and Dagenham & Redbridge over the last 3 games to stay up. Also go to see Chippenham Town occasionally in the Zamarretto League Premier Division.
  23. He's a regular on the terraces at Twerton Park watching Bath City. He's been quite proactive in raising funds for the club and did a film night with a Q&A session a few seasons ago of his film "Another City - a week in the life of Bath's football club".
  24. My two biggest two abiding memories of that game were me (16 at the time) and my Da hugging and greetin' at the fourth goal and the journey back. One of the Whiteinch buses broke down in the Hampden bus park so everyone piled on to one double decker and the noise on that bus was phenomenal. going under the heilanmans umbrella I remember folk outside wondering wtf the noise was then seeing it was a jags bus and the party that was happening guessing we had won and giving us a clap. Then being outside of Firhill when they came back - nothing will ever beat that day, especially sharing it with Dad.
