I just don't get the Scott Brown obsession. He should have had a red yet again. He can't pass, shoot, dribble, head. Some of these attributes are rather important for international team
-
Don't like Celtic. But I do like Rodgers. He has developed young players superbly. Some are even Scottish! God knows why McGregor isn't playing for Scotland. I know they were having a party and sang a couple of songs they shouldn't have(though in my naivety these had to be pointed out to me) but I thought their fans were pretty entertaining at our recent game, nothing like the scum from south of the river. And they were really turned on to the match of the day, the ht Weir Academy games in which the kids showed some amazing skills. The Celtic fans gave them a terrific reception. I have always realised the Old Firm equally but perhaps the times they are a changing.

Azeez has been given sufficient time by the fans and the management. He was embarrassingly bad in the last few games when one may have expected him to improve after his goal at Celtic. Archie should cut his losses and dump him now. In relation to ATS and SOD, They were both excellent payers for us and are still young. They both had bad injuries this year and perhaps have been unlucky not to receive a new contract. On this season's form, they would have walked into our team as long as their previous standards had been reached. Booth and Muzzy had much worse seasons this season compared to last for various reasons. I hope that they can both return to top form but both are causing extreme cause for concern. In addition, I have always believed ATS would be more than capable at CB if required. Go for them both! I hope DU do not get promoted as I like the look of their front 4 and would covet all of them.

Ach, lets get over it. Ive seen it all before. The worst thing was that I took my pal's 2 grandchildren to the game for their 1st experience of football, mainly because my friend was getting worried that all they do is talk about Celtic. 'Get them to support the Jags' he said. I found myself defending an 'annihilation' (8 year olds word not mine). Looks like 2 more lost to the Old Filth. However this really was a patched up team and we should perhaps have anticipated the outcome. We have competed well against the bigger teams by shrewd tactics, team ethic, defending well with defensive mids screening the back 4 and changes of systems. Yesterday's team comprised a myriadof strikers, wingers and attacking mids and no full backs. Asking Lawless and Amoo to defend is ridiculous. And Azeez and Doolan up front has never worked. I realise Dools was playing off Azeez but he needs to be in the box as he gets knocked off the ball too easily. Again, asking him and Erskine to win 50:50's will not work. This proved to me (regrettably) that we cannot play Lawless and Erskine together and certainly not 2 strikers plus a winger. In retrospect we should have probably started with Barton in midfield and young Fleming in his natural position at LB though he looked very young and frail. He stuck to the task and gave us a better balance. I felt sorry for Edwards who was totally exposed to a very clever winger and who was of course out of position. As usual, he never stopped going at the job handed to him. Once Dallas robbed us of victory at Hearts we were never going to finish any higher so the last 4 games were of little consequence. The playrs were either knackered or injured so sen them off with good wishes for a long rest and get them fired up for next season. I am concerned that Archie mayfeel he has taken us as far as he can and leave for Swindon or elsewhere but if he stays we should be fine having recharged our batteries.

I agree.SOD was brilliant going forward. He's easily Scottish Prem standard and if we don't sign him, one of our rivals will. I'm surprised Luton haven't offered him a contract. Could be that he has something organised down south but if not, we should snap him up. May be tough on Christie who has looked good at RB but completion for places is positive.
-
Yes please. Loved the guy. I also loved ATS but think this may hinder Penrice's progress who may well be ready ro replace Booth unless Calum recovers some form.

Ask away TL. Celtic are miles ahead of us technically. The only ways of avoiding the savings is either to park the bus or work much harder than they do. I was pleased we didn't try the former but nor did we do the latter. They were excellent esp Roberts and Forrest so our defenders especially the fbs were exposed. Nobody played the rewards role in the 1st half. I appreciate he is not that silly but he does the closing down, harrying and tracking back roles well. I don't think it was coincidental that Celtics movement was not so impressive 2nd half.

Ridiculous to criticise Cerny. What a moronic comment about feigning injury. I thought we would have conceded 7 or 8 if Edwards hadn't come on. Attitude of the team changed totally. Archie played an attack minded team which backfired from the start and I thought he should have changed it earlier ie after 10 minutes. Couldnt understand why Amoo started. He was never going to cover back when required. Was the 4th over the line?
-
There are several ex jags doing fine at lower levels, some I thought would be great in the PL but failed. Delighted they are doing well but Archie knows they are not good enough. I have seen Shankland twice at Morton. Utterly useless.

Did Swanson dive? Wouldn't be the 1st time!

DU up. Accies down. But I hope not. Would rather go back to Falkirk.

Wee Stevie is brilliant when he plays like that. He hasnt been knocked off the ball so easily this year. I suspect he has been working in the gym. I look forward to his best season next year with more consistency. I agree that we gave the ball away far too easily. Off days for Barton, Erskine,Edwards,Booth,Azeez. Although no lack of effort. But the rest were excellent. Loving Christie at RB, he seems to have learned the defensive duties already.
-
i agree that Cerny is a great keeper. Best since Roughie. But Scully was having a great spell of form and realising the potential that Archie has obviously noticed. If he had not been injured we would not have conceded as many goals and possibly beaten Sevco at home. I hope he recovers his confidence quickly on his return.
-
the no 33 should have been booked. a cowards challenge and an appalling response from the sevco scum behind the goal

I agree that Hansen and Forsyth were well ahead of Liam. But they were stolen at 100k. I cannot explain to my kids just how good Hansen was. Absolute world class. Like Terry or Kompany. Yes, as good as that. In the good old days of pre Bosman we could have held on to him indefinitely but of course we, being Thistle would not stand in a young player's way(with 1 obvious exception-Roughie, I hope you are making mega bucks broadcasting!). We were probably skint at the time and of course there wasn't as much money floating about in England at that time. But I recall being outraged at the 100k tags on both these players at the time. Not to mention Somners transfer to St Mirren! However I do believe that we would not have finished in the top 6 without Lindsay. Consider the number of goals conceded from set pieces in the years after promotion. This is very rare now . On Saturday Motherwell bombarded us with high balls when they went for broke. They hardly threatened our goal because the back 3 won everything in the air and on the ground. Factor in the difference in income between 6th and 7th and add that on to the fee. That's what he's worth to us. Archie has had a massive influence on the lad and he has learned quickly this year. In other words he has used his talent. Whether he can improve further under someone else I don't know but he strikes me as the sort of player who is both level headed and eager to improve. I don't see why he can't play for Scotland. There have been many perfectly good CB's who have performed well for Scotland with similar skill set to Liam e g Holton, McQueen and many others. Not a penny less than £1m

I'm getting the feeling you won't miss this game regardless because you are a mad mental Magyar like the rest of us. I recall using my sevco supporting pal's season ticket there several years ago. The game was dull, Thistle lost a couple of late goals and the pre Sevconians were all bored and ungracious. My son and I just kept quiet, never said a word and slinked away. My friend got pelters from the scumbags around him the next week for giving up his ticket to jags fans. They said they identified us because we shook our heads at the ref several times. He actually gave up his season ticket after that and started supporting Morton.
-
Lindau, just get to the game and support your team. Take a Sevco freebie if you want but someone else will take your ticket if you dont buy one! I suspect it may be a concession (like mine). The more concessions we buy the less income they earn from us. One of my best memories is of George Clark stabbing home in 19 canteen. We have a good chance to repeat this.

The team and defence in particular have been brilliant since Christmas. The team is so tight and play for each other. They should be proud of their efforts. I thought one of the 3 centre backs were mom. Attackers looked great for 35 minutes then thought all the good work was done. But we really were top class for that time. I was disappointed with the 2 wing backs today, especially Muzzy who perhaps needs a break and pre season to recover fully. He doesn't seem to have the drive and confidence back. I thought Booth should have come on after 50 minutes. As for Beaton and McDonald, are they related in any way?. McDonald is a fine player but an absolute disgrace on the football pitch, an excuse for a sportsman. He was taking the piss out of Beaton all day. I appreciate this is a strong statement but Beaton is the worst ref in Scotland. Worse even than Thomson.

can anyone provide a lead to watch the game?

What a great position to be in. This is the 1st season I can remember not being concerned that most of our stars may well leave as they are out of contract. And I cant think of any that are in contract ,wishing they werent. I agree with the Arch that we always need fresh blood to freshen up and I'm sure Archie will bring in the right people. Sean and Christy have shown their benefit to the club and proved excellent team players. I wouldnt have advocated this a year ago but give them both new contracts. Sad to see Amoo and Wilson go but I dont think they are quite good enough so new players in for them. Andreu or a player of his type would e great. There must be another Hardie out there possibly in the lower divisions desperate to sign for Thistle. Always liked that guy with the ponytail that was on loan from Celtic at Ross Co. Where did he go?
-
Booth and Lindsay would have easily cleared that cross. The Scotland nos 3 and 5 should be dismissed as should the manager.
-
If I could solve this I would be a better manager than Archie. And that clearly is not correct as I am sure I would lead us down the divisions. I consider there are several reasons for this. 1. Archie has a belief that defence is vital to stay in games and organises the team accordingly. We usually have 2 out of Barton, Osman and Welsh in midfield, all fairly defensive mids who are never going to score many goals. When we play with 3 at the back, the wing backs rarely cut in and shoot with the 'wrong' foot like Tommy Gemmell. Perhaps we could switch wing backs at times during the game. If Barton is playing mid there is not much distribution from the back. I consider Edwards an attacking mid but he doesn't often get into scoring positions. These are reasons that we don't score but also why we don't concede either. 2. Quality of crosses/ final ball. We really need to be more assured when the delivery comes in. Practice. 3. Movement in the box. Needs great improvement perhaps with exception of Doolan. Practice. 4. Lack of bodies in the box. I watched man city's 1st goal yesterday. Scrappy but they had 4 men in and around the 6 yard line and another 2 at the edge of the box. From open play we have max 2 in the box. I understand this but thought yesterday that our mids should have been supporting our front men because we were so dominant. Perhaps Lawless would have provided the link.
-
Naturally gutted at the end but this was because we were by far the better team and played some great stuff. I agree that our strikers and attacking mids with the exception of Doolan need some coaching on their movement in the box. I thought Ade held the ball up brilliantly but was nowhere to be seen when the ball arrived in the box. Booth played a lovely right footed cross straight into the 6 yard box which a predator would have buried. Nobody in sight. Nobody got on to Muzzy's crosses because they were bloody dreadful but Amoo delivered a few great balls. Lawless was playing well with a great attitude ie that he knows he is better than the opposition and this affected our play when he went off. Booth is one of my favourites but thought he had a nightmare 1st half. Far better 2nd with Erskine assisting. He needs to be consistent as Penrice will be breathing down his neck next season. Ok, result wasn't great but loads of 'positives'. We really do have some super footballers in our team which makes the Dons display all the more disappointing.
-
I was depressed at our poor performance and exiting the cup. But I liked DD's comment in the other post about lack of width/support mainly due to the presence of Hayes and McGinn and if Osman had buried that header we would have been hailing a fine defensive display. We really did hang on in there to give ourselves a chance. So,in retrospect perhaps the front men can be excused due to lack of service. On Saturday I hope to see our win backs bombing on and providing chances for Kris. Our back 3 are very steady so no excuses for not pumping fakey Jags.

Quarter Final Partick Thistle Vs Aberdeen Sunday 5 March
Weebaw1 replied to jagfox's topic in Main Jags forum
I cant understand why we didn't turn up. We have been playing so well recently. Aberdeen are no Real Madrid. Why do we always appear terrified of them? Barton was losing tackles to Pawlett for Gods sake. Doolan was utterly useless but hes been playing so well recently. Come on Kris, you can do much better than that. I think we missed Barton in the Libero role and suggest that he returns there right away as this allows our midfield to get on the front foot. He looked like he had 8 pints on Saturday night so I hope this was a 1 off display of extreme laziness. I was going to use the word laconic but that is too good for Barton's performance. Felt sorry for Erskine who I thought tried a few things without any support. The great support deserved better.
