My kids have a book - Hamish the hairy haggis - it’s pretty funny actually (albeit when you’ve read it to them for the third night on the bounce it starts to lose its appeal). Anyway it is full of stereotypes and humour based on perceived Scottish culture. I find it pretty amusing. You may or may not find it offensive. It is certainly not racist. Making a joke based on culture does not automatically make it racist. It’s also not necessarily lazy, it can actually be quite well thought out and funny.
  2. Based on absolutely nothing but my recollection from the time, 15% sticks in my mind, but I could be completely wrong.
  3. He was capped a few time by mcleish
  4. I went for the good old fashioned phone call option. Done and dusted in 3 minutes, no hassle at all. Then put through for a couple of junior jags memberships. It was all really easy and I was on the phone less than 10 mins. The staff couldn’t have been better to be honest.
  5. Pretty sad to see him go. Was definitely a confidence player but one of the few existing players who really got better after Caldwell arrived. Wish him all the best wherever he goes.
  6. The way this is going Livi will have our team from a few years ago. Dools to Livi would be another step in that direction.
  7. Did Caldwell sign him from us previously? If so he will certainly be on Caldwell’s radar at least you’d imagine. that said he doesn’t seem to have had much of a career since leaving so I’d rather we stuck with penrice.
  8. Add a striker (or 2 depending on formation) and we pretty much have a starting 11 there which is a bonus. Note I am not saying we are now signing backups, I would hope we can add better players to just about every position, but it is a reasonably strong core group to start pre-season with. Cardle signing another deal would be a big bonus as well.
  9. Similar one at Ibrox a few years ago. A slightly rotund current bun with an England top on, and sh!te blonde highlights in his hair started shouting down at the thistle fans. The inevitable “fat David beckham” chant was given to him in spades. Was priceless seeing his wee face.
  10. I am surprised any keeper today is poor with the ball. It is increasingly obvious there is a need for keepers to be able to play with their feet, with bigger teams seeking out keepers who can play the ball. For any young keeper to be poor at kicking is ridiculous. It is a skill which can be practised so put in the extra hours, put a few stakes in the ground, and practice hitting them. Then practice doing it under pressure - ask the goalkeeping coach to close you down. I might be naive, but do that for an hour every day after training and I am sure you would see resutls within a few weeks.
  11. Let's just hope we had pretty decent legal advice and there are provisions in place based on the ruling, so we are not liable for anything. I suppose it's possible we got conditional registration from FIFA saying we could play him pending the result of the appeal. This ruling (if accurate) may mean we never see him in a Thistle strip again. I just hope we dont have to pay a penny for the pleasure of a few cameo appearances!!
  12. Best possible result tonight. Both teams will be tired after ET. County will be pretty despondent after losing on pens. If we are actually in with a shout of 4th place then hopefully Caley (and not us!) might take their eye off the ball in the playoff race.
  13. Not an ideal situation but if we have a player taking a decent wage, while not providing the goods on the pitch and being disruptive, I’m all for moving them on. If that means training with the kids then do be it. It was, with hindsight, clearly a mistake not having a relegation release clause. Flip side is you might not be able to convince players to sign if there is such a clause.
  14. Couldn’t agree more. I assume we sent St Johnstone a lot of videos of his initial loan with us!! The keown and Lindsay combination was outstanding, and instrumental in us getting top 6. The Keown and Devine partnership was atrocious and instrumental in us getting relegated. Im not sure that it’s just coincidence that our massive turn in fortunes ties in with Lindsay leaving. He was maybe even better and more important to us than we realised at the time.
  15. Elliot has been like a new signing the past few weeks. Has really got back to his best, where he is a more than competent full back. Let’s just hope he keeps it up, as that’s been a huge problem for us the past year. The thing I noticed yesterday was the spirit and effort in the team, that has been lacking for months. The whole team looked like they really wanted the win. Tackles, all fair, we’re flying in which was great to see. Heart was in mouth for Elliot’s slide tackle in our box but it was perfectly timed. Likewise with Spittal’s when he was tracking back. Spittal is another whose form has transformed under Caldwell. He is starting to look a complete midfielder, rather than a number 10 type player. I haven’t been impressed by Caldwell’s start, and while I think 10/12 weeks is too early to sack him, I was Getting closer to joining that way of thinking. Having seen his signings play, and the way the team is playing, I’m happy to give him longer and hopefully eat some humble pie later in the season. Hazard looks fine and an improvement on what we had. Saunders looks by far and away the best centre half we have (until O’Ware is back) Mcmillan looked good yesterday. Cardle looks like he would be very useful, but suspect he’s now out for a good few weeks which is a blow. Roy took his “goal” well but am not convinced he is any more than a sub to stretch a defence later in games. Harkins - who knows? If played as a holding mid will be a nightmare, but can unlock any defence in this league if he plays well, and could be very useful. There have been positive signs recently after some very ominous signs. Just as Caldwell is rightly slated for certain results and decisions made, he also deserves some credit when he gets it right. Let’s just hope things keep improving and he wins over the majority of us come the end of the season.
  16. It seems that Erskine was speaking to McCall last night. I can see him being away to Ayr in the next couple of days, and wouldn’t blame him to be honest. I would love to see him stay, but he’s only got another couple of years playing I suspect, so could completely understand if he left.
  17. Was it not him that signed Jack Hendry?
  18. Or 3 points off the top. Really depends on your perspective.
  19. I would find this staggering if true. Can’t see us splashing that sort of cash. Would also be pointless offering a sum that’s already been rejected. If that sort of money was available I think we would have had another defender before now.
  20. Was wondering that myself, or does it mean Doolan will drop a bit deeper? If Erskine struggles to last 90mins I wonder if he might be replaced by Dools and vice versa. Between Coulibaly, Mutombo, Storey and Fitzpatrick it is scary what we could do on the break.
