  1. Seems Glasgow City Council have a bit of a penchant for this kind of thing down Maryhill way. Just knock it all down and don't worry about it............ Bing!
  2. I was at 261 Garscube Road (it's still there), before my parents moved to Corby when I was just wee. Both sides of the family lived in and around the Round Toll area, with my Dad's family all Thistle and my Mums' a team we won't mention.
  3. I'm not saying we should continue to wrack up losses. I'm saying we should plan in a way that avoids losses. We shouldn't be chasing glory at any level with any of our teams and if we are / were in debt because of this, I wouldn't blame the individual teams or coaches of any kind, I'd blame whoever is responsible for signing off the overall budget for the 'total' club. I don't think it's that difficult to calculate lower to upper range budgets, dependant upon a 'flat' season with an average gate and little success, all the way up to cup success i.e. playing Rangers away, and then arrive at a sensible PTFC budget that means the club does not go busto. I also think that we are more likely to attract investors, if we have a diverse range of teams. Not many people these days, will part with hard earned cash for a Business that only runs an elite male team.
  4. I get both arguments. There's a case for both and I know Lambie preferred to cut the budget and concentrate on the first team and on players that would get him results in the near term. My preference is that we have a club that has reaches beyond the first team and one that includes an academy, younger teams and women's teams. It's not that I'm a massive supporter / follower of the other teams, I just feel that there are more benefits to this model. Hamilton have proven that an academy can pay dividends and supporters of the women's team might start following the men's first team. Overall, it's inoffensive and good for business. I would also ensure that the first team has the right support network to thrive in the long term. This would include scouts and the necessary management team that allows Doolan to do his job properly. If in the short term, this means we can't spend as much on players and players wages, then so be it. It's a long game for me and targets to become a stable mid-table Premiership team, should be our aim. From there, other success in Cups and maybe even a European jaunt could follow. Up The Jags.
  5. Did anyone notice this on the tele yesterday? A prank, mistype or just ignorance?
  6. It's a trick they managed to pull off in a recent League Cup draw, I think it was. I had to check the rules and see if the teams were seeded. Having said that, I'm happy with our home draw and a team we can beat.
  7. Tried the Scottish channels I have here in England and BBC iplayer but no joy yet.
  8. Struggling to find Sportscene. What station you watching on? Cheers
  9. Looking forward to the draw and hoping for an easy home tie or a big pay-day. Geographically we're in better shape than usual, with difficult to beat clubs in the North East being fewer than usual. I guess either Aberdeen or ICT away seems 95% likely. Rangers will most likely get Bonnyrigg Rose unless Buckie Thistle beat Celtic tomorrow. Joking aside (I'll convince myself I am), I think we'll get either St. Mirren or Hibs away.
  10. Fantastic Thistle. Had to nip out and just back. Was 2-0 when I left and not just saying this, I had a good feeling about today all week. Well done Thistle and everyone who travelled. Up The Jags.
  11. Just 4 more and I think we can do it 😬
  12. This is the time of year that RC usually buy / borrow their way out of trouble. Here's hoping that a. They haven't done that b. If they have, they are rusty, haven't gelled or are cup-tied I'm pretty sure we can beat them.
  13. I don't want to talk about it
  14. I'll stand corrected re. Turner, if there was no PCA, at least until after the play-offs. I certainly wasn't listening to any tittle tattle and was going from memory, which hasn't served me too well it seems. For the record, I think they are both fine players and done a great job for Thistle overall. I find PCA's entirely disrespectful, due to the emotional impact they have on the player. I believe Tiff was affected at times and I remember having discussions at the time about some of his decision making towards the end of the play-offs. I might not like it but I'll never criticise a player for leaving when more money is involved. Cheque book loyalty is all we are left with unfortunately.
  15. It's a tough one re. Turner and Tiffoney. Whilst we shouldn't want to cut our noses off to spite our face, I wasn't happy with either of them last season towards the end. If I recall correctly, both signed PCA's with their respective new clubs, at a time when we were clearly pushing for promotion and likely to play Ross County in Turners' case. This lack of respect for Thistle impacted, I believe, Tiffs performances in particular and I think he struggled with the burden. Their decisions may have cost us promotion, so I'd be in the camp of leave them where they are and look for a couple of other players. The Dundee's are great at nicking our best players but I can't recall it working out too well for them.
  16. Best Wishes and a Happy Christmas to all
  17. I enjoyed the stats posted on another thread, that I now can't find.... It indicated that we lost points near the end of games after being ahead in the main. I wonder how we do when we're behind. Do we attack the other teams and have more possession towards the end of games? If we're mostly ahead, then it makes sense that we would be under attack at the end. I feel this is fine, as long as we're in the ascendency when it's the other way round. Also, have we lost the most points towards the end of games because we're ahead more than other teams? Someone who can find the stats, may know if they provide this insight.
  18. Great result today. We just need to keep winning. A lot can happen between now and the end of the season. DU are beatable and I find it unlikely that Raith will continue to run as good as they have to date. Up The Jags.
  19. Completely agree. Took us an hour to kind of get used to it. It will be a very sad day if we ever get one, because I don't think I'll be able to take the game seriously any more. Those pitches are a disgrace and need to be banned.
  20. Would take the second lowest ranked team in the competition, home or away. The lowest is already put aside, as we know. Think we'll get Airdrie.
