  1. When was the last time a Thistle first team and Scotland played on the same day? Edit : Scotland football team before any smart arse points out the rugby team played on Saturday.
  2. Quitongo, Bannigan, Scobbie, and Jeffries (the one from Dundee) are all out of contract in January.
  3. Hopefully by 5pm Saturday Coulibaly will have added himself to the list of players to score both for and against Thistle. My question here is who has the worst differential on the basis they've played for us? (so not Owen Coyle) My immediate thought was John Baird who scored one in a friendly and none in competitions against what must be close to double figures against us?
  4. If the foul starts outside but continues into the box it's a penalty. For a thistle example see Bannigan fouling Ainsworth at Fir Park a couple of seasons back.
  5. Ever just decided you're going to jack in a job that's paying very well with no guarantee of what you'll get paid at your next job or where in the country (or even world) it will be? No doubt these 3 are going to be earning way more than the average guy in his mid 20s but they're unlikely to be at the income level where they get to 35 and can retire for good so if I was in their shoes I'd be turning up every day until a deal was agreed elsewhere rather than voluntarily putting myself on the dole. I might be wrong but I don't think Barton or Keown have featured in any of the "closed" door games yet. Maybe the plan is to keep Storey and get rid of the other two?
  6. From the excellent Narey's Toepoker blog - the players released by the other clubs in last season's Premiership and the two promoted Championship clubs not yet signed elsewhere, excluding goalies Some of these are obvious non-starters e.g. Miller, McGeouch, Crawford, Templeton; a few are guys that are past it (Smith, Irvine, Donati), a few foreign journeymen, and the odd youth player that didn't make it which might be our best bet- after all we picked up the likes of Lawless, SOD, and Balatoni for our last 2nd tier winning team. Tumilty as a RB option (not our most pressing need but we do need at least one more FB) might be useful. Watson (Another RB) isn't terrible for this level but I think he has a patchy injury record which would be my biggest red flag given the last couple of years.
  7. Can we at least agree this is a must win game?
  8. On the occasions he has played through the middle, he's ended up drifting out wide anyway, one of the double header vs the Orcs at Firhill near the start of the season springs to mind. He'd get the ball on the wing, look up, realise there was no-one in the middle of the park, try and bulldoze his way through the defence, and lose the ball. I'm torn between thinking there must be a player in there because of his record at Inverness, and thinking total diddy based on what I've seen in red and yellow. I'd keep him if we go down though provided wages weren't an issue, that bulldozing approach might be better suited a level down... but let's hope it doesn't come to that.
  9. 4 years ago today we beat Hearts at Tynecastle to stay up. What's the highest attendance we've won in front of since that date? Guessing away to either Dundee or Dundee United?
  10. I'd rather watch St Johnstone / Motherwell -esque brutal football that gets cup finals / cup wins / European places / even wins against the OF & Aberdeen than what we've served up in the past few years. Even last season only Kilmarnock (36) and Hamilton (37) scored less goals than us (38) and our top 6 finish was built on a good defence. The promotion season and the first half of the first season up we played good football but since the first time we signed Lyle Taylor I don't really see anything that separates us from the other bottom 6 teams, for every Motherwell long ball to Moult when he was there or Bowman this season, I'm sure we've launched as many forlornly in the postcode of Sammon or Doolan. Yes we've scored the odd great footballing goal like O'Donnell at Tannadice (that was over 3 years ago btw) but I'm sure every other team could point to a good passing goal they've scored in the same timeframe.
  11. We'll play St Johnstone away for a third time as they have the "reverse" fixture issue to us .
  12. 1) The equaliser at Peterhead in 2006, probably didn't feel like that for a goal again until Griffiths' second free kick against England last summer. Also such a crucial bit of luck, that ball doesn't go and and who knows what another season in the 3rd tier would have done to us. 2) Geordie Shaw's 2nd at Parkhead in 1992, was the first time I'd seen us play either arse cheek away from home and we won. 3) Christie Elliott at Airdrie in 2013- it probably wouldn't have mattered if we'd lost that game given Morton also lost that day and we were 5 or 6 points ahead of them having beat them 3 days earlier, but to score 2 goals in the last couple of minutes to all but clinch the league? And also mathematically relegate Airdrie? Oh yes. Others: I didn't enjoy the Morton game at all until the final whistle, was such a nervous night. The Dunfermline 5-1 game that season was probably as good as I've seen a Thistle team play in a big game. In this spell in the top division probably Hearts away in the first season, at half time we looked done but Fraser's rocket onwards we were excellent Lindau hat-trick at Stirling, a rare case of Thistle doing it the easy way in glorious sunshine in front of an expectant crowd. The 3 other wins over the OF that I've seen and not mentioned above.
  13. I think they were running from Perth-> Inverness but certainly not from Glasgow -> Perth and not sure about Edinburgh -> Perth.
  14. Ryan Stevenson away to Killie in a 2-2 draw is the most recent very early goal that I can remember.
  15. He scored at Pittodrie last season in the 2-1 game after Lindsay gifted him possession on the edge of our box. You're also right to say he scored for Inverness in the 1-4 game although there's an argument that goal was a Ryan Scully OG.
  16. Robbie Muirhead is the 4th
  17. Easier one- name the 4 players who have scored for and against Thistle (not counting own goals) in this spell in the top division.
  18. Is the Doolan song the one that gets the name of our top scorer of the last 40+ years wrong?
  19. Maxwell and Harkins were only at the club for one season together, and Maxwell didn't play in the 2nd QoS away game that year, which means it's a 2-0 defeat on 17/8/2008 Tuffey Storey Twaddle McKeown (Roberts, 70) Robertson Maxwell Lennon Rowson (Chaplain, 36) Gray (Paton, 46) Donnelly Harkins No idea who the other pair of Thistle legs belongs to. WOuld guess at Paul Burns, Craig Reid and Bob Harris for Queens
  20. Bosnia still have two games to play and need to win them both to put us in worst runner up spot (assuming we win tomorrow), so yes it does very much matter.
  21. The full stats in the last 10 for us since promotion- the points don't always square up due to 3 points a win 13/14: -1 .... 8 games (4 gains, 4 losses) 14/15: -7 ... 9 games (2 gains, 7 losses) 15/16 -1 ...8 games (3 gains, 5 losses) 16/17 -16.... 11 games (2 gains, 9 losses) 17/18 -3 ....2 games ( 0 gains, 2 losses) - based on 5 games Total = 29 points lost in last 10 minutes, 11 gains, 27 losses. Though out of the completed seasons there are two terrible ones and two which are OK if not great. The only game we've been losing since promotion with 10 minutes to go and won was away to St Mirren in in our first season up - it's a rare event so should be well noted. In 15/16 we came closest to bucking the trend with last gasp winners at home to ICT (Stevenson cross and non celebration) and Motherwell (Lawless deflection) but a couple of post-split late goals brought us back down.
