  1. Aye you got the trick (and the point of the question) the other is Ray Clemence
  2. Name three players who both played for Scunthorpe United and captained England
  3. Most notoriously, Brechin went up to the Championship from 4th having lost more games than they won and with a negative goal difference (-6). Not that it did them any good
  4. I'm not sure if it's fair to say he made no impression at Dundee. I believe he was a regular starter last season, in what was ultimately a successful season at this level (second place and promoted). I've no idea how he got on at Carlisle.
  5. Personally, if he's the same player that left us, I'd be happy. I always thought him underrated for us (I think largely because he was recruited as a striker and therefore often unfairly looked upon as a stop-gap right back). However, I always thought he was a perfectly adequate RB for the premier, so would be good for this division. He also had pace and attacking attributes which could stretch a game. His crossing wasn't the best, but I don't think it was as bad as often made out (well, insofar as I think the vast majority of crosses don't make their man at our level). It's just that he regularly got into crossing positions (laudable in itself), so it was more noticeable that he was often missing his man. I've no idea if he's regressed for any reason (age and/or injury) since he left which of course would put a different complexion on things.
  6. Welsh was always excellent for us when fit. Craigen wasn't quite premier quality (I don't think he's played at that level since). Devine was excellent in his first season, played next to Lindsay in the top 6 season; like so many others he was so much poorer the next season. Ridgers wasn't as good as Cerny and was only ever going to be a back up.
  7. Archibald was technically a player-manager at first- although I don't think he ever picked himself for the first team again
  8. Rudden also. Could also argue Graham if you compare his scoring record with us to his previous clubs.
  9. Yes, but RM were playing one of the best club sides in the world, and we are playing the 15th best team in Scottish football. The comparison clearly wasn't about the players, but the situation between two relatively evenly matched sides.
  10. Well our cup final record is much better against Rangers than East Fife
  11. Firhilll now fully owned by club: https://ptfc.co.uk/ptfc-news/firhill-back-in-our-hands/
  12. This is something that is worth applauding generally this season. While we have been largely poor to watch (some mitigation here for the pitch, although there is also the well-documented lack of width, pace and flair in the squad), in many or most of the games where we have won 1-0, I have felt that we have won relatively comfortably and Sneddon's had fairly little to do. Our defensive set-up and shape has largely been excellent for much of the season. This bodes well for next season for me, we have a good defence on which to build. It's now "simply" a matter of adding some pace and goals. Hopefully the new acquisitions already announced will go some way to addressing this.
  13. And yet we’ve achieved a playoff place so still all to play for
  14. Yet in that time we’ve drawn away and beat at home Inverness and had two draws v Arbroath. No reason we can’t beat either in the playoffs In all but one season of about the last 10 or so we’ve been at this level we’ve had no chance of going up with two to go. So I’m pleased we’ve all to play for still.
  15. I can think of two examples were the referee was told to consult the pitchside monitor, did so, and stuck with their original decision. One was for a possible Harry Kane red card v. Liverpool, and the other for a possible handball by a Man City player v. Everton. Both, in my opinion, should have resulted in the referee changing their decision- the latter example resulted in an official apology to Everton.
  16. There were a couple of times we attempted to break and the player dribbling out was effectively tackled by the pitch- the ball stopped as if it had hit a big puddle- but without the water. The bounce was completely random and the ball kept bobbling off nothing. I honestly don’t blame us for being that poor given the surface. Funnily enough, I’ve never been as sure as I was at HT that we were going to win, simply because I’ve seen us in their position so often and know exactly how the script goes.
  17. We were bad and all of that, but I genuinely believe that pitch was every bit as bad and possibly worse than ours. I was at the game and it looked impossible to play on
  18. I hardly think starting with an inexperienced keeper and loanee CB has been much of an issue considering the number clean sheets kept this season. I agree re McIver and Gordon though
  19. Can we end the season now please?
  20. What has happened to this defence? Clean sheet records to pub team defending
  21. Tuffey’s career was a real disappointment. I really thought he was destined for better things, brilliant for us and already by then a full international. Then he left and virtually disappeared
  22. Alegra narrowly lofting over then hitting the inside of the post was, at the very least, close to scoring
  23. This is where our views differ. He did do remarkably well prior to the window with that squad. However, he knew as did pretty much everyone else that the squad was nowhere near good enough. While hindsight is 20/20, there is no way he could have known the season was going to be suddenly curtailed just as he had taken the hit of bedding in a load of new players, but before the benefit was felt of the better players once bedded in. So I do think there is some mitigation, yes.
