  1. Alibalibee has it on the button. This was the only occasion where this strip was ever used. You can get replicas ( with white instead of blue buttons) from TOFFS and other replica kit suppliers. At least England didn't give the raised arm Nazi salute on that occasion, unlike in Germany in 1938, see picture below. To be fair to the players, their captain Eddie Hapgood, Stanley Matthews and the others refused to give the salute, but the furious players were ordered to do it by the British Ambassador to Germany, Sir Neville Henderson. England won 6-3. Good bit of research Alibalibee - we have a future for you!!
  2. I saw somewhere this morning that if Rangers forfeit any games the score will be 3-1. That's to take account of their obligatory penalty.
  3. Happy Birthday to Scott Tiffoney, who is 23 today. He shares the date with John Blair, born on this day in 1898. John, born in Ardrossan scored the Thistle goal in the 1921 Scottish Cup final win against Rangers. Worth a mention is Willie Thornton, who died on 26 August 1991. Willie was the Jags manager when I first went to see the Jags. As a boy, I couldn't understand why he left to become assistant manager at Rangers, which I considered to be a lower position!
  4. I trust that you will have safe journeys there and back, enjoy the game, have a beer in Tutties Neuk (if still there) & return with three points.
  5. According to the Arbroath OS, for some of you lucky few going to the game, some tickets have been sold with a date of 21 September. Game still on Saturday, & these tickets are valid then.
  6. Challenge Cup game away to Stranraer on Saturday 4th September kick off time changed to 1:00 pm. This is to allow away fans (us) time to get home to watch Scotland play that night.
  7. Ian McCall actually said " There is nothing in that just now". That was three weeks ago..... I was under the impression that we would be gazumped by Dunfermline. So welcome Jake. There's quite a few games between now and January.
  8. Imagine one of them in the Europa League next year - Galatasaray wouldn't know what hit them!
  9. When I was a boy, there was nothing more boring than the United, City, Athletic and the like. The exotic for me, so Crewe, Aston, Crystal , St Mirren, etc, and of course, Thistle! So I've gone for the most exotically named clubs, and guesses for the others H H H H H H A A A A A Easthouses Lily Miners Welfare for the Cup!!
  10. We've played a game in the wrong league - should that not read a 3-0 fine, instead of a fine 3-0 win?
  11. Sadly for them, they had a recruitment problem. Only had 8 players. I suspect nobody wanted to travel, and not enough quality players in the area.
  12. No offence Javajag, is Senna not what you take to get your bowels moving? Freudian slip?
  13. Sena goes out on loan to Alloa for the season, with an option for recall in January '22. An excellent player, & I for one wish him well there.
  14. "The king sits in Dunfermline Toon Drinking the blud red wine Oh whaur will I get a skeely skipper To sail this guid ship o mine Then up & spak an eldern Knight Sat at the King's right knee "A'body but Peter Grant!!" * * Apologies to Anonymous, who wrote Sir Patrick Spens.
  15. There will be no live commentary. Dunfermline refused permission for this!!. No live stream for me. I'll follow it on the BBC.
  16. Congratulations William! There are a team (including you) listed on the "about " tag at the bar at the top of the home Archive page who find faces, dates etc, but most of the software updates have fallen to you. Any volunteers to update data welcome, top home page bar, "help" then "page uploaders". A video shows all that's required. I've tried, but my fat fingers have so far not succeeded. But I will not give up. A magnificent milestone, but some help will make OUR Archive even better. Well done!
  17. When Jagzone started, they did have a £12.99 per month package for overseas fans, but this proved unviable. Unfortunately I think that the service isn't now available for people overseas. I could be wrong, but you might contact the club directly on this. Covid has changed SPFL rules on media coverage, but in 2018, when the international service was halted, I believe that it was a club commercial decision. But please check.
  18. Lenziejag just beat me to it. I've just been looking at the 2nd half of Cove Rangers v Jags from last season You get a video of each half, and a highlights one.
  19. I dislike the SPFL board more than quite a few of the clubs, but having gone on about them at length a year ago, I'm not going to repeat myself. I understand ChiThistle wanting to view the game. Others will attend away games in a few weeks time, with, iirc, Palmerson being one of the favourite trips people make. I understand this, and equally I understand people against going or viewing away games. Unlike me, I won't be at all judgemental. One club not mentioned last year though, are Albion Rovers. I read somewhere that they allegedly voted in favour of the Black Friday vote because they didn't want the cost of hiring a bus to the Highlands, and buying the team their fish suppers on the way back! If true, I'm stunned. Like Lenziejag, I use JagZone, and have become quite used to the coverage. I can also use it anytime, and go back to view old games. Most useful. Two things stand out for me. 1. Will PPV continue once fans can attend games? Some clubs will stop providing the service, although all clubs seem reluctant to provide viewing figures. With the SPFL rules in place for the 21/22 season only at the moment, I'm not sure of the long term commitment to PPV. 2. When things do get back to normal, Caroline has suggested that the Gofundme page stop. Probably at the Morton game. If this happens, fans need another way to channel the funds to the club. Would investment to the Centenary Fund be the way forward until fan ownership becomes more established? All thoughts welcome.
  20. It could be Laurie. Every photo I've seen of Laurie was after he lost most of his hair! Later in his career he played with Margate. The Margate history website does have an excellent biography of him. He also later played with Canterbury City. Laurie moved to Toronto in Canada in 1977, where he lived until his death in 2006, of a heart attack. He was 69 when he passed away. Laurie's brother Bobby also played for the Jags.
  21. October 1958 League Cup Final versus Hearts. 5-1 to the Fearts at HampdenPark. This is George Smith heading the Thistle goal past George Marshall in the Fearts goal. Not too sure who the other Jag is. A guess at Tommy Ewing.
  22. Today is the first time we've won our opening league fixture since 6th August 2016 (yes, 2016) when we beat Inverness CT 2-0 at Firhill in the SPL. McCall said earlier this week the he didn't mind losing goals, as long as we scored more. I wish he wouldn't tempt fate like that. Not good for my mental state of mind. Other defenders will get wise to Rudden, Graham and Tiffoney. We do need help in defence, so hopefully some signings this week, although a wide player looks like first up. Bell was a talisman for our conclusion to the league last year, but unfortunately did look suspect today. But three points, Don't look a gift horse in the mouth!
  23. It won't be Jake Hastie. He's been included in the Rangers squad for the Malmo game next week. That could be the end of that.
  24. We're all just fine here, thanks. Looking forward to a 3 point start to the season tomorrow, for a change. QOS have brought in a couple of defenders in the past couple of days, but I'm very hopeful that we get the points.
  25. As above, no match programme for now. Good to have you back,AJ, hope you're well.
