Time Wasting At Throw Ins

Hi, can someone settle an argument please. My (fading) memory recalls a team wasting time at a throw-in and the referee finally losing patience and awarding the throw in to us. Is that within the rules of the game that a ref can do that? Perhaps it was in the rules but no longer. Anyone know? Thanks.

If there's no such rule then it should be introduced immediately. The ball must be thrown within 5 sec of the player receiving the ball (from a ball boy/girl, from picking it up, etc.). No more than a maximum of 10 sec since the ball has gone out of play until the throw-in gets taken, except for cases of the ball getting blootered out of the stadium etc.

ETA: This would be better on the football chat, before it ends up being a General Election topic.

We should have a vote on it...

Don't see why the linesmen/women can't have a some of that vanishing foam. Stop throw ins been taken the customary ten yards further up the line.

Excellent idea. Except that it would increase the linesman's/woman's already burdensome list of onerous tasks, such as putting the flag up to confirm the referee's decisions.

When I saw the foam first used about 10 years ago in South American games it was used to speed up the game. The ref drew the circle paced of the 10 yards drew a line and got set for the free kick and any opposition player hanging around in between was booked.

Now it takes about a minute to take a free kick.

Another change I'd like to see: an automatic yellow card for any player who immediately stands right in front of the ball with the sole intention of preventing the opposition from taking a quick free-kick.

Agree should be tightened up on. Surely comes under ungentlemanly conduct so made not a "change" as such.

Another annoyance is when the over officious refs give an offside when the offending team has lost the ball and the opposition are already on (or starting) a counter. That's punishing the side the offence was made against, slowing up play and time wasting in its own right.

Never going to happen although I'd also like to see a quick free kick option where as long as the ball is within 5 yards or so of the infringement it can be taken immediately whether it's rolling or not - give the advantage to the attacking team to play on.

So many fouls are deliberate just to stop play - let them get on with it asap and book players who deliberately block the free kick - a bit like obstruction. To avoid a booking opposition players have to be moving away from the ball (up to the 10 yards).
